Wait, maybe I was wrong, wasn't she identified in February of 2020?

I've thought about her often since I first saw her photos and read about her death. Chouest may have stolen her life, but he can never steal her story, even if it took 41 years to recover. I can't wait to hear more about her life from those who knew her. Today is a day to celebrate!

I wonder if Shirley got the ‘I Love You Shirley’ from perhaps her partner.

I am really pleased that Kern County Jane Doe has name back.
Does anyone know if Shirley Ann Soosay was ever reported missing?

I was shocked that her name did turn out to be Shirley. I really was thinking it was the name of a girlfriend, or perhaps a friend. Good point about an SO possibly tattooing her with it.

I wonder if it was a self affirmation tattoo - as in think of herself and take care of herself. Or it could be the name of a family relative too. I have the same name as my mother.

Because she would be an adult or because was an indigenous woman?
Sadly, the latter. It's a pretty deeply rooted systemic issue in Canada.

Sadly, a lot of missing indigenous girls/women weren't given the attention back then. Even today authorities brush it off as "the norm".

Thanks... I wondered if that was the reason.

Is there any further information about Shirley other than her niece saying that she stopped sending Christmas cards and Birthday cards to her mother?
