Ok, now that broke me. Poor little baby. Oh, my heart. But is he okay? It sounds like he survived...... I hope so!

'We Dug Down and Found a Little Baby.' Man Describes Rescuing Infant from California Mudslides

"The baby was buried about 4-feet deep and tangled in roots, he said. She was taken to a hospital, Johnson told*CBS Evening News.

“The girl’s OK. It’s unbelievable,” he said. “There’s no way that we should have found that child, and probably 15 more minutes, it wouldn’t have been alive because it was cold and it had been there for a while.”

The child’s current condition, identity and age are unclear. It’s also unclear whether she has been reunited with family members. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff Office did not immediately comment. Johnson could not be reached for comment by TIME on Thursday."

Thank goodness for those rescuers.

I lived in Washington State when the Oslo mudslide happened in 2014. What a terrible tragedy that was and this is today. I wish I could do more than donate and send my best hopes for the missing, the survivors and the rescuers.

The cleanup was going on near where Weimer's missing parents, Jim and Alice Mitchell, lived. The couple, together for more than a half-century, didn't heed a voluntary evacuation warning and stayed home Monday to celebrate Jim Mitchell's 89th birthday. She hoped to find them in a shelter or hospital.

"They're an adorable couple, and they were in love with their house. That's their forever home," Weimer said.

So sad seeing those that were missing turn to deceased :( RIP to all :candle:

I am however glad to see that drop from 17 missing to 8 and hope more are being found safe.

I was afraid when it was 17 missing and 17 deceased that the 17 would be one and the same :(
Hoping more are found alive. This is gut wrenching.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The number of missing after a California mudslide has fluctuated wildly, due to shifting definitions, the inherent uncertainty that follows a natural disaster, and just plain human error.

On Thursday, the number provided by authorities went from 48, down to eight, then back up to 43. Officials say a clerical mistake led to the figure of eight being released.
At a news conference Thursday where he said 43 were missing, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said the updated figure was an "inclusive" number that encompassed several definitions of "missing."

Pinit%20Sutthithepa_1515633942649.jpg_9953241_ver1.0_640_360.jpg

Pinit Sutthithepa

Toyota of Santa Barbara employee Pinit Sutthithepa (goes by Oom), his wife, two small children, and possibly his mother and stepfather, have not been heard from since the mudslides. They were last seen at 1217 E. Valley Road in Montecito. You may contact Mike Caldwell at [email protected] with any information on Sutthithepa's whereabouts.

Update:

Friends of 6-year-old Peerawat Sutthithepn were in shock Thursday after the boy was identified as one of 17 people confirmed dead in mudslides that devastated Montecito this week.

Peerawat's younger sister and father, Pinit Sutthithepa, are among 43 people still missing, and Pinit's stepfather, Richard Taylor, 67, was also identified Thursday as having been killed early Tuesday morning, when torrential rainfall washed rocks and debris from the fire-scarred Santa Ynez Mountains above the South Coast enclave.

Kevin Touly and his brother, Poy Sayavongs, from the Inland Empire, said Thursday they were very close to Peerawat's family.

"We're still trying to look for Peerawat's dad and his sister," said Touly. "I would've never imagined Peerawat would've been killed by the mudslides, when they were able to survive the Thomas fire -- we're just so heartbroken."

<snip>
Pinit's wife and two children lived in Thailand, but throughout the years Pinit sent wages to his family and worked hard to bring them to the United States.

"They finally were able to make it to the states in the summer of 2016," said Sayavongs. "It's cruel -- they only had a short time together before this tragedy struck."

Sayavongs said that when he spoke to Peerawat's mother Thursday, she told him that officials found the boy's body near the train tracks. "When I heard that, I couldn't believe it," he said.

Sayavongs said that he hopes and prays that officials will be able to find Peerawat's father and young sister.

The company that employs the mother of a 14-year-old girl who was dramatically pulled from a California home that collapsed in a mudslide says the girl's father and 16-year-old brother are still missing.

NeoTract, a maker of devices used in the medical field of urology, has launched a fundraising page asking for financial support for the family of Kim Cantin.

Cantin's 14-year-old daughter, Lauren, was rescued by firefighters this week after being trapped for hours. The house was flattened hours earlier by the deadly storm-triggered mudslide that ravaged the Montecito area.

Sawyer has a twin who survived. They remind me of my daughters. I can't even comprehend. This is horrendous. I hope they didn't know it was coming or suffer at all.

I signed out of WS quite abruptly yesterday while feeling so hurt for these people and others on the other threads (Blaze :( CA has pained me these last few weeks) so I took a breather.

Now this.

Oh my, all of those names. The little ones :( Entire families ripped apart.

Go on, someone close the thread and tell me it wasn't real.
