I received the same letter, which did not alleviate my fears. I sense a follow up coming on...

I noticed a comment on one of the blogs about Levine from a woman in Ethiopia, possibly an educator?

http://www.ldresources.org/2009/03/22/dr-mel-levine-accused-of-sexually-abusing-young-boys/

Post #5. Unfair? To Levine? What about his victims?

So I have an ethics question. Everyone will groan because most don't want to have to answer this. I know I shy away from it.

I have read Levine's work in the past and agree with much of it. I've raised at least two boys who learned differently, while still being bright. One was actually tested for autism back in the late 70s as he didn't speak until he was three--not a word. The first time he communicated he asked, "Mommy, may I have another peach?" with perfect articulation. My husband and I about fell over. I still remember where I was sitting and how my heart stopped. We'd just had our little 42 month old son tested for autism and autism didn't show up. A 157 IQ showed up. I know now that M has some definite Asperger-y tendencies but those really weren't known about in the late 70s. He took apart his baby bed at 9 months. He was building amazing things out of Legos at 18 months. School was a struggle however, and he never connected socially. He couldn't make eye contact and didn't like to be touched.

M is the type of "learner" that Levine cautions us to not humiliate--to celebrate. I happen to agree. A psychiatrist told us when M was 9 that he'd grow into himself by 40. Well, he's 36 and he's a glorious man--quirky as heck--but socially engaged, married, a father, a loving son. A delight. He grew into himself.

So here's the hard question. When we discount Levine and shun him from the education circle, what do we do with his writing? I'd be very interested to hear other's opinions on this sticky subject.

Personally, I think it is fruit of a poisoned tree. Just imagine how he came by that research and the results. I shudder to think. What was the cost to these children that he helped? How about we find a clean physician who has observed the same things?

I have actually had this debate outside of WS. I mean Mengele discovered an incredible amount about the human body while he was experimenting on live subjects-there is no way to remove the techniques he used however. There is no justification. JMO. Levine's research is no longer unique, so someone needs to reinvent this wheel who does not sexually assault his patients. JMVHO.

Missizzy

I just received an email from Bookbrowse saying that they had edited Levine's profile. They now include the sex abuse allegations.

http://www.bookbrowse.com/biographies/index.cfm/author_number/744/Dr-Mel-Lev

Excerpt:
In 2008, a civil lawsuit accused Dr Levine of sexually abusing young patients. While denying the accusations, Dr Levine, asked the North Carolina Medical Board to render his license inactive and volunteered to stop seeing patients at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was an adjunct professor of pediatrics at the School of Medicine. For more information see the New York Times 4/8/2008 and 3/20/2009.

A few months ago on this thread we were discussing Dr. Miguel Frontera, another disgraced child psychiatrist. He's the Baltimore doctor who told police that there was "no medical reason" for him to be undressing boys and giving them physicals (at least he owned up to this, unlike Ayres, who said he had medical reasons for touching the boys).

In May, Frontera's medical license was suspended for good. But he still lists himself as "Miguel Frontera M.D." on his Facebook page. I see he's changed his profile picture. The old one showed him with two little boys on his lap.

Now his profile photo shows two women with what appears to be little boys, in a swimming pool.

The Baltimore Sun reported a few months ago that the police are still investigating Frontera.

Mercy--What an eye opener. Man, if anyone needs a reminder of just how sick and predatory and "creative" these pervs are, read this:

https://www.mbp.state.md.us/bpqapp/Orders/D3755911.069.PDF

Frontera says that it never occurred to him to request physical information from the boys' pediatricians!!?? He even had the gall to state that he'd done another physical exam on the very day of his interview with the Board, all while stating that he realized they were unnecessary. Jeesh. "I'm sorry, I just can't help myself..."

So, in reading this and doing a little research, it looks as if he lost his license but that the criminal trial did not go forward. Why is that? Are their civil trials against him?

Just curious, does anyone know if a judge in a civil trial can set restrictions? I don't think so. Therefore, if he has no restrictions (and I didn't see general ones--only those pertaining to medical practice--in the document above), I'd say that he's free to have anybody on his lap. Disgusting but probably fully legal.

ETA: Being that he's not a RSO, he can be on FB. However, he can't legally use the MD. Can that be reported? I'm wondering if those children are his grandchildren. Once again, consider the gall it takes to flaunt something like that. You lose your license for sexually assaulting little boys and you flaunt children on your FB page. What a slimeball. What a slap in the face of his victims and their parent. "Look at me, I'm still touching children!!"

I don't think those kids are Frontera's grandchildren. Frontera isn't that old.

Actually, last I heard from the Baltimore Sun a few months ago, the police investigation was still ongoing, as new victims had come forward.

While we're on the subject of child psychiatrists who molest children, Donald Lee Rife, who trained at Judge Baker in Boston just a year after Ayres, did, had his licence revoked in Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut for molesting boys. Then he moved to Florida, where he was busted again. He was arrested by police in the 1990s after molesting a seven year old boy, but the case was dropped after the mother wouldn't let the boy testify.

Nevertheless, the Florida Medical Board revoked his license too, and Rife fought hard to keep it.
But as soon as his license was revoked, Rife started volunteering with little kids at the Salvador Dali Museum in Florida. He was even quoted in a St. Petersburg Times story in 2005 about how he doesn't talk to the children about the sexuality in Dali's paintings. After a citizen alerted the paper about Rife, the paper confronted Rife and the Dali Museum dropped Rife like a hot potato.

But at the same time, Rife was also teaching boating to kids at the Boca Ciega Yacht Club. When a reporter for the Petersburg Times called the Club last year, they insisted they no longer let him teach kids. I see he's still a member of the club. See nominating committee, with his photo:http://www.usps.org/localusps/bocaciega/bridge2010.htm..

Interestingly enough, when confronted by the St. Petersburg Times in 2006 about his child molesting past, Rife volunteered to the paper, "I'm not gay. I've been in a long-term relationship with a woman."

But the next year, for his 50th reunion at Yale class notes, Rife wrote that he was gay. (Not that this has any relevance to his pedophilia.) He also told Yale that he had "retired" from medicine.

Sometimes, late at night, I think these offenders should have their crimes tattooed on their foreheads.

:(

They certainly do NOT want to give up the right to use their professional titles, do they?

Believe, I think that's a fine idea.

Reading the document pertaining to Frontera reminded me how truly perverted and opportunistic they are. Frontera lied too, over and over, and couldn't keep his story straight, just like Rife. FWIW, I think we've either posted about Rife before or have a thread.

Retired? Hmmm.

I was so proud as a man from our community took part. He's a local contractor and just decided that "enough was enough". His story was on the front page of our local paper a few months ago. I'm so pleased he has done this and hopeful that his actions might give other men the courage to do so.

I don't have a TV and I've never watched a regular Oprah show but I did watch her interview with sex offenders a few months back. It's available on the internet and I was impressed. It was decidedly non-sensational and highly respectful of the victims. I "assigned" the video to all my adult children and it was fascinating to compare notes. We each had very different takes on the men.

You're probably right, Mercy, concerning those not being Frontera's grandchildren. It looks as if he's 48 and was licensed in 1988. Those children look to be about 4-6 and the young women look to be in their late teens or early twenties. Nieces and nephews possibly?

Do you happen to know if he's married or has a partner? Any children?

Creeps me out. I noticed that in an article from May, he thanked his patients who stood by him. Most likely those are the ones who weren't asked to get on all fours. Here's a link:

http://articles.baltimoresun.com/20...chiatrist-natalie-magdeburger-board-documents

"....The board's investigation began after Baltimore County police turned over two reports of possible misconduct.

Baltimore County police said at the time of Frontera's suspension that officials consulted with the county state's attorney's office and determined that the allegations did not rise to the level of criminal activity. Police could not provide information Tuesday on any possible further investigation...."

This statement is a bit confusing. The police turned over reports to the Medical Board? Is that typical protocol? And then, the Board conducted the investigation and determined that Frontera loses his license but not that criminal activity occurred. Police concurred that there was no criminal activity. What I read surely sounded like criminal activity.

There IS a police investigation. After the reports came out that he lost his license, new victims came forward, and the police have reopened the case.

At least Frontera admitted that there was no medical excuse for his physicals. Ayres will never ever admit to this - even though he received NO training as a child psychiatrist to do physicals on kids.

At his first criminal trial, Ayres actually had the hubris to say that he did physical exams on kids because pediatricians these days are "too quick" and not thorough. Ayres is not and never has been a board certified pediatrician. Almost ALL child psychiatrists take one year of pediatrics in their residency but that doesn't mean that the rest of them think that makes them more qualified than a board certified pediatrician with years more training to do physicals. As Dr. Howard Pearson who was head of pediatrics at Yale for decades told the William Ayres blog " I am puzzled as to why a child psychiatrist would be doing a physical at all. They essentially have no expertise."

PS: I believe Frontera is not married.

Mercy--Why did I doubt you, LOL? You are most assuredly correct.

Maryland Medical Malpractice?: Psychiatrist’s License Permanently Revoked for Alleged Inappropriate Contact with Boy Patients

May 19, 2010

"The Maryland Board of Physicians is permanently revoking Miguel Frontera’s license to practice in the state. The decision comes after the state board found that the psychiatrist engaged in inappropriate contact with about a dozen pre-teen boys in his care. Baltimore County police say that they are conducting a criminal investigation into the allegations....

"......At the time the allegations were first made, police said that they were not considered to be at the criminal level. However, Baltimore Police say that they reopened the investigation because of new information that they’ve received. Meantime, Frontera is maintaining that all of the allegations against him are false...."

This thread is meant to stay in the Crimes thread, so I'm moving it back. I'm sorry it keeps bouncing around. Hopefully it will stay put this time :)

Thanks, Salem. This is especially helpful as last week, the San Mateo Daily Journal Forum, which has had a thread on the Ayres case since 2007, has closed down for good. People who followed the thread there will now be relying on the one here.

On other posts, I've talked about Dr. Donald Lee Rife, another alum of Boston's Judge Baker Guidance Center, who was busted in four states for molesting young boys.

Although being gay has nothing to do with pedophilia, it was Rife himself who volunteered to St. Petersburg Times reporter in 2006 that he wasn't gay and had been in a longterm relationship with a woman. I see that Rife started a business back in 1982 called Gay Hotline, Inc:http://www.corporationwiki.com/Florida/Tampa/gay-hotline-inc-3647775.aspx

Gay Hotline, Inc.

Incorporated by Donald Rife, Joseph Delgiorno, Larry Cash, Millie Cottn, Gay Hotline, Inc. is located at 1222 S Dale Mabry Hwy Ste 608 Tampa, FL 33629. Gay Hotline, Inc. was incorporated on Tuesday, June 01, 1982 in the State of FL and is currently not active. Dufour, George Allen, Esq. represents Gay Hotline, Inc. as their registered agent.
Source: Public Record data - Department of State - Division of Corporations.

I also see that lawyer George Allen Dufour, their agent, represented Karl Denhart, a Florida man convicted of making child 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

There is a pediatrician in New Jersey called Joseph Delgiorno but there's also someone of that name in his late fifties in Port Richey, Florida.

Dr. William Ayres was asked during his deposition in his civil suit whether he knew Dr. Rife from his Boston days. Ayres denied it but I think all of these guys know each other.

The News editor over at the Atherton Almanac, which is in San Mateo County, just posted the following on a thread at that paper about prosecutorial misconduct in the San Mateo DA's office:

Posted by Renee Batti, news editor of The Almanac, 40 minutes ago

Several comments on this thread have been removed because they made serious accusations with no evidence. But the Almanac is interested in hearing from people with evidence or reasonable suspicion of criminal wrongdoing or unethical behavior. Please contact me directly at [email protected] or 854-2690, ext. 211, with information. I'm especially interested in hearing from "concerned" and anyone else with knowledge of specific incidents of concern. Thanks.

I emailed the reporter and directed her to the discussion at Websleuths some weeks ago about the mishandling of the Ayres case by the San Mateo DA's office. I also told her that neither DA Jim Fox nor Chief Deputy DA Steve Wagstaffe ever responded to any of the complaints sent in by readers at Websleuths.

Link to the thread. Very interesting comments about the chaotic and dysfunctional DA's office.
