GUILTY CA - Dr. William Ayres for child molestation, San Mateo, 2007 #2

  • #561
You just know that Ayres, Clyne and Kevess are not the only doctors charged with doing this in the Bay Area. I know that the police in 2009 were investigating another psychiatrist who evaluated boys at a juvenile hall in Santa Clara County for child molestation. A reporter for the San Jose Mercury News is looking into this.

East Coast doctors are getting caught too.

Syracuse emergency room pediatrician Dr. James D'Agostino was arrested in Cambodia for paying to have sex with a young boy.

Syracuse, N.Y. -- A Manlius doctor who traveled to Cambodia two years ago to volunteer at a children’s hospital is being held in a Phnom Penh prison on a charge he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy.
Dr. James D’Agostino, 56, a pediatric emergency doctor at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, was arrested Feb. 16 and charged in the Phnom Penh municipal court with purchasing child prostitution.

In the Dr. Robert Kevess case in Berkeley, included in the charges are "seven counts of sexual battery with false professional purpose. "

Why didn't the San Mateo prosecutors charge Ayres with this?

Missizzy: The bigger question is: did they know Mel Levine; Don Rife; William Ayres; Miguel Frontera;the Blankenburg twins; Alan Horowitz and other pedophile doctors?

Also, Kulak did a plea deal, and was placed on 10 years probation. He also agreed to register as a low level sex offender. He agreed to give up practicing medicine while the medical board investigated him, but it's not clear whether he is practicing today.

I have this tendency to believe that they lie low for a while and then resurface conducting seminars and giving speeches.....continuing to use their full title with no mention of the charges brought against them. Kulak's case was outrageous as he was employed by the school system. I'm reminded by of former doctor, James Krivacska:

Dr. James Krivacska/Sexology expert and author/convicted child molester - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Of course, Krivacska's crimes were far more serious. He was convicted of sexually assaulting tremendously challenged young boys in his school office during evaluations. It irritates to to no end that articles he's still writing in prison, are prefaced by disclosures that he was "falsely accused by mentally retarded men". GRRRRRR. They were boys and it's no longer a false accusation when there's been a conviction. How much blood do victims have to give?

We just learned that our children's rapist's trial is being written about in journal article. Yep, he's also described as being falsely accused. So, the writer is privy to more info than the judge....or the victims???? After 12 convictions, failure at appeal, failure before the Supreme Court, failure at the PCR trial, and denial of clemency. He's served his time. But at what point do "allegations" which are found to be true via a court trial and conviction simply become crimes committed?

At what point do victims get some closure? And some peace?

Why didn't the San Mateo prosecutors charge Ayres with this?

They really don't seem to want to charge or prosecute any molesters.
They would prefer to look the other way, I guess. :maddening:

Here's a civil trial that's going on against St. Francis Hospital in Connecticut for failing to protect victims of pedophile doctor George Reardon. They moved fast on this one- even though Reardon is dead. Just goes to show how incompetent the San Mateo DA's office is when it comes to getting a second Ayres trial underway and how it just doesn't stack up to other jurisdictions around the country.

Here are some details, courtesy of Missizzy on the Reardon thread.

The first trial concerning Dr. George Reardon is underway:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/...20050918.shtml

1st trial starts in Conn. doctor sex-abuse case
April 5, 2011

"A man testified Tuesday that a late Connecticut doctor suspected of molesting scores of children performed a sex act on him in the late 1960s while he and his three brothers were taking part in what was supposed to be a human growth study. The man, using the pseudonym William Roe, was a witness in a Waterbury Superior Court trial on the claims by another alleged victim of Dr. George Reardon, who died in 1998. The civil case is the first to reach trial among about 90 people who are suing St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center of Hartford, claiming hospital officials failed to prevent the abuse. The hospital's lawyers say hospital officials didn't know about the abuse...."

and

"....Roe testified that Reardon asked his mother for permission to include him and his three brothers in the growth study after one brother had his tonsils removed at St. Francis in 1967. Roe said he and his brothers saw Reardon individually at the hospital for the study. When it was his turn, Roe said, he undressed and Reardon measured his genitals. He said Reardon then told him he needed to stimulate him, and then proceeded to touch his genitals to the point of ejaculation. Roe said he was 9 or 10 years old at the time...."

I might be missing something but I went back and researched Dr. Kevess of Oakland who worked for 20 years at the UC Berkeley health center and it looks as if his victims were 18-42. So, he's surely a sexual predator but I think, for now, we can remove him from the list of pedophiles. He pleaded not guilty to a number of felonies.

My guess is that he targeted certain men and performed unnecessary exams for his own perverse pleasure. How many people really stop and question whether a particular type of exam is necessary? My guess is that there are MANY more victims but men who've been abused are often so hesitant to step forward.

What a horrid excuse for a doctor.

"...Kevess graduated from the New York University School of Medicine in 1984 and received his license to practice medicine in California two years later, according to the Medical Board of California. He has no previous disciplinary actions filed against him, and there were no patient complaints uncovered during a UC review last year, officials said.

Kevess completed his residency in family medicine at San Francisco General Hospital. He has listed his clinical interests as depression and anxiety, dermatology, musculoskeletal problems, eating disorders, gay men's health and transgender health including hormonal treatment. He has also served as medical director and volunteer physician at the Berkeley Free Clinic.

[Kevess' attorney, Robert] Beles supplied letters written by fellow medical professionals praising Kevess' integrity and professionalism....."

Same ol' same ol'. Great guy. Bright with lots of "integrity". Volunteers. And then preys on most likely the vulnerable at the Free Clinic. Being that Berkeley has a large number of transient people who come and go amongst the cities around the Bay, I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL, if there were hundreds that underwent unnecessary exams, especially if they were being seen for STDs or questions about gay health. Those victims probably have no idea that the exams were not needed nor that he's been arrested.

Some comments and reviews here. I wonder if the positive comments might have been made by a female as it seems as if Kevess targeted males:

http://www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/828014/Dr-Robert-Kevess-Oakland-CA.html

Statements like the following just floor me!! So, even if it Kevess is convicted, that does not in any way effect the way this patient sees the doctor??

"....Whatever the outcome of these current allegations, Dr. Kevess is an outstanding physician who is dedicated to his profession and his patients...."

Looking forward to an update regarding the competency hearing.

  • #573
Can't find anthing to say whether it actually went today or not. Maybe tomorrow.

  • #574
It was continued until 2pm Pacific time. I would have heard if it didn't get underway at that time, so it is very likely still underway, and they are probably dealing with whatever motions the defense tries to get away with, and jury selection if they're actually going to have the trial this week. If so, it could be another hour and a half before we know anything more.

There will be a post on williamayreswatch.blogspot.com when I know more. (Which will be sometime tonight.)

In the seventh day of the trial to determine Ayres' mental competency, Dr. Paul Good testifies that Ayres is competent to stand trial. Testimony yesterday provides behind the scenes glimpse into Ayres' twisted mind. Apparently his lawyer for the first trial, Doron Weinberg, wanted him to enter a guilty plea after the mistrial, but Ayres refused, saying he was "trained" to do physical exams to boys in therapy. (Too bad the prosecution never investigated this flat-out lie for the first trial.)

The Ayres blog has a very good writeup on yesterday's testimony for day seven in the trial. Ayres even complained about the Ayres blog and victims' advocate Victoria Balfour who he said was "out to get him" and Dr. Lynn Ponton, a doctor who filed a complaint to the California Medical Board on behalf of a victim in 2005.

The letter from the parent is a heartbreaker. Ayres was never trained to do physical exams, Mel Levine was never trained to do physical exams and Donald Rife was never trained to do physical exams. None. Ever. No one ever trained. To Do Them.

Case closed. I wish.

Thanks for the update Mercy.

Believe09: Well, Levine was a pediatrician so he did to physical exams. Rife and Ayres were child psychiatrists at Judge Baker and Children's Hospital, and they were not permitted to do physical exams on children.

Prosecution and defense have rested their cases in the Ayres mental competency trial. Judge is reading instructions now. As always, the best coverage is over at www.williamayreswatch.blogspot.com

Sorry-what I meant was to the extent that he did. He was not trained to commit sexual acts upon children. :( None of them were.

The prosecutor could have avoided this altogether. Boo on her.
