On July 24, 1987, a San Mateo Children Protetective Services social worker named Judy Knowlton contacted the San Mateo Police Department about an abuse complaint against Dr. William Ayres by victim Greg H.
Jeff Lugerner, the therapist for Greg H's mother and who was the one Greg confided in about Ayres molesting him, told a San Francisco Chronicle that Children's Services covered up this abuse complaint about Ayres and others by boys because Ayres was their primary vendor.
A document has just come to light that shows that San Mateo Juvenile Judge Marta Diaz sent a memo to this same Judy Knowlton from Protective Services SIXTEEN YEARS later on February 19, 2003, referring another boy in juvenile hall to Ayres for evaluation.
The document says that Judge Diaz "expressed confidence that Dr. Ayres could assist the court."
Why didn't Judy Knowlton- who referred the victim's complaint about Ayres in 1987 - do anything? Why did the courts, Children's Services in San Mateo continue to send boys to Ayres until 2005 after there had been a police complaint against him and numerous complaints by victims to Children's Services, Ayres' own partners, to the California Medical Board? Why did Juvenile Judge Marta Diaz try to stop the police from investigating Ayres in 2002 and why did she continue to send boys to him for the next three years, until news broke that Ayres had settled a molestation civil suit with a victim?
Was anyone thinking straight in San Mateo County?
