A Long Beach woman whose 3-week-old baby was kidnapped and killed last year testified Tuesday that one of the alleged abductors said Im your new mommy, moments after the infant was ripped from her arms.
From the witness stand, Jackie Honorato occasionally paused to fight off tears as she described the evening of Jan. 3, 2015, when a man and woman armed with a gun allegedly stole her newborn baby girl, Eliza De La Cruz. He came and he told me, Give me the baby, and I said no, Honorato said, indicating she was talking about one of the two defendants who sat at a table in front of her in shackles and an orange jail jumpsuit. I said please, and he shot me.
Honorato, Elizas father and Elizas uncle all testified Tuesday at Long Beachs Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse as part of a dayslong preliminary hearing where Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Judith L. Meyer is evaluating prosecutors case against Giseleangelique Rene DMilian, 47, of Thousand Oaks, and Anthony McCall, 29, of Oceanside.
At the end of the hearing, Meyer will decide whether theres enough evidence to hold DMilian and McCall for trial on kidnapping, murder, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping charges.
