its usually pretty standard espcially since it is an officer involved shooting not to release too much until the investigative report comes out. im sure they will ID him prior to that but they hold cards close to the vest in these cases.

Just curious as to why IDing him is taking so long? I'm guessing he may be unrecognizable due to injury? He probably still has the ID he used at the gas station to buy cigarettes on him (I know that can't be used as a positive ID) - but would be another indicator.

So either the family withheld information from law enforcement, or else everyone is full of it as far as this "Matthew was going to Oregon to retrieve Ember" thing goes.

(PS kseal's video is not the exact same one I wanted to post but it does give the gist of the information. His father sure was adamant that MG was going to Oregon to get Ember from someone though.)

I kept wondering why he was heading North. My original thought, and maybe it still applies?, is could it be somehow related to marijuana farming? I know there are a fair number of marijuana farms in Oregon, especially Southern Oregon. I have a somewhat distant relative whose husband runs the farm and she runs the dispensary. Business is booming, for sure.

ETA: by somehow related I meant maybe he knows (or perhaps owes) people there?

I thought about this too! To me it just sticks out. If you were going to lie why is THIS the lie you come up with? They had time to come up with anything. So who knows what habits people have or why they have them. I've never done laundry at 3am but I've gone for walks at 3am.

(Sorry for all the rapid-fire posts, catching up all at once).

One thing I can't seem to shake is I feel like the heat that week/day is somehow involved in all of this. Unless that trailer has the world's greatest swamp cooler there is no way it got "cool" in there. I'm thinking bearable, at best, and possibly not even bearable for an infant - especially one who has seizure disorders, if heat is a factor in seizures (I don't know on this part). I personally find swamp coolers generally make it worse unless they're very efficient or you're sitting right in front of the fan, because instead of just hot, now it's hot and really humid. Plus the truck wasn't air conditioned and rolling down the windows only helps so much when it's well over 100 degrees outside.

Heat also explains people being out at weird hours. If you have the option to be out doing whatever physical stuff you need to do at night - whether that's work, chores, or whatever - and sleep somewhere cooler during the day, it makes sense to do it.

Kimi - was the statement about MG going to Oregon to find Ember the statement you are talking about here? or another video?

It wasn't me it was GGE
Madison Wade is willing to post whatever clip we want. She just want to know which segment.

Does anyone know?

ETA. I found it. I'll have a link shortly.

i think that the guy really did get the tip and it was commendable for him to go do a search, because baby Ember certainly has not been found, but yea the tipster seems hokey.

I haven't followed everything in this case, but I did watch the video. I find it hard to believe. Stop and think about this for a minute! If you are about to throw your baby off of a bridge at 3 in the morning and you hear a car coming, are you going to turn and look that person in the eye????? Or are you going to lay down on the ground and try to hide yourself???? A person could very easily crouch down behind the guardrail between the pavement and the walkway. Makes for a good story, but I'm very suspicious.

RSBBM

Drug abuse and mental illness is quite common.

Co-occurring disorders are very common. In 2002 an estimated 4.0 million adults met the criteria for both serious mental illness and substance dependence or abuse in the past year.

http://www.justice.gov/archive/ndic/pubs7/7343/

Not everyone who has a form of mental illness will 'self medicate' but many people who self medicate have some form of untreated/undiagnosed mental illness.

BBM. I have learned that this is very true. MG may have been self medicating and he may have had an undiagnosed mental illness. We'll never know I guess.

Apparently it was such an 'important tip' that he decided to walk to oregon by himself to try and find his baby. Then he hijacks a car at gunpoint---but that is only because he was on a heroic mission to save the baby.

If it was such an urgent tip wouldn't it have been more efficient to have the FBI look into it?

hmm... I totally agree with you and I think most people who are thinking logically/in their right mind would. But that said, I recall the family saying early on that they felt LE was ignoring at least one tip and they were trying to follow up on it. It was a tip about two older women who had an infant in a dollar store. IIRC it was an interview with MG's Dad. I'm trying to find the video again so I can post it but having a hard time getting the right search terms. Maybe they felt LE either already ignored this Oregon tip (if one exists), or they weren't doing enough to follow up on it.

ETA: I also posted it separately so it didn't get lost, but here's the link https://twitter.com/jennyespino_RS/status/618122883987079168. It was a 99-cent store, no wonder my dollar store searches weren't working.

This is a wild guess, but if it's on Cypress Avenue in/near Redding is it could be one of two, over either a creek or the Sacramento River. I'm not sure what creek that is, but here's a map showing two likely spots. (maybe a local can confirm if either of these has something called the "Cypress Bridge"?)

Thank you - I looked it up a well and wanted to confirm it's not the bridge in the video that circulated yesterday. I don't think so...

I doubt very much that LE didn't check out this tip. It would be very easy for them to do so. There is no reason that MG had to carjack someone and go there himself.

If that baby had been Ember the hospital would have known that very quickly.

Not sure.....but I think the original poster meant it was commendable for the searcher in the video to go looking for Ember not MG.

If LE didn't follow-up (which I cannot believe for one minute).....the family would have went for him I'm sure. JG especially.

I'm having flashbacks of Cindy and George.

You mean like Cindy's initial call to LE about her car smelling like a dead body putting the wheels in motion?

I'm flabbergasted that this family reported a gun and money stolen and now wants to claim MG was just following up on a tip. This is just getting more bizarre as it goes.
