I did that too, volunteered at a Cerebral Palsy Center when I was 16. My high school boyfriend and I wanted to do something helpful, and that’s what we chose. Memory fails but I think it was maybe on E. 23rd in Manhattan, somewhere around there.
IMO as certainly just a layperson, I think Emmanuel was really too young for a CP diagnosis. I could very well be mistaken, but the kids for whom I volunteered had the typical physical issues. We pushed their wheelchairs on outings, we assisted them in the bathroom, those kind of things. Their hands, feet, balance, and verbalization were affected to different degrees, so from the outside looking in, I think we can’t really be sure what afflictions his parents created before they killed him.
Of course if he had CP and could in fact have been diagnosed at his age, well that’s a moot point since he wasn’t taken to a doctor.
I too thought CP was present from birth, but I’m unsure of how early a diagnosis could be determined.
JMO and experience.
