Court tells her there is no rush, take her time express her thoughts. She wants Jake to look at her, to face her and to look at her. Prosecutor in an aside explains they can't force him to do so.
After the kidnapping, She told him to tell her everything. But he is a coward, weak, only hurts children, not like a man. He destroyed her whole family. She never got to meet her grandson.
He changed her daughter, we don't know who she is anymore. Mary doesn't understand how he did this. RH changed when he came into the picture. Mary has been estranged from Rebecca before this, she hadn't even met her two year old granddaughter. They kept Rebecca's side of the family away. Had she known what was going on she would have done everything possible to get RH and the children away from him. When RH first moved in with Jake Mary called CPS because her older granddaughter said she didn't want to be there it was a bad place. Nothing came of that report. Had CPS told Mary about what had happened to Promise, Mary would have been on alert and tried harder to get Rebecca away from him.
Mary feels attacked by the public and people on social media. Her family has been treated horribly. This experience has been horrible for al of them.
Jake had a second chance. Her daughter RH didn't get a second chance. Her grandchildren didn't get a second chance. How was Mary to know who he was and what he was capable of? She is angry CPS did not tell her these things when she first reported her concerns about him.
Her surviving grandchildren are a mess because of him. She is angry at the system for giving Jake a chance to be on the streets after Promise to be able to continue to harm others. He destroyed his brother's life, his mother's, nobody is here today for him, none of them want to look at him.
She is here to advocate for her grandchildren. She lost her son or grandson (couldn't hear) on the 5th and just days later JH an RH called to say Emmanuel was missing. She hasn't had a chance to grieve either loss. There are rumors they buried Emmanuel in the deceased relative's grave. That rumor has been hurtful to her.
Pleads with the court to give Jake the MAX sentence. He has had far too many chances already. It isnt fair to the children to continue to let Jake out when he is a danger.
Judge offers his apologies to Mary. Mary says she is the only one of her side of the family who could stomach coming today. They don't trust themselves. They are angry at Jake and angry at the system that let him off last time (Promise). Mary wants to understand how this happened. How? The judge has no answer for that.
