Yes, he would have lost his GI Bill school benefit if he had been brought up on charges of infidelity while on Active Duty and he was convicted and they changed his discharge status from honorable to dishonorable. He would have lost all his military benefits, e.i, commissary privileges, exchange privileges, any medical as well as his IRR status. If convicted he would have lost everything having to do with his military career. So I guess we have to ask ourselves how important his military status was to him. IMO, MOO.

Shame he is losing all of that anyway...he must have really thought he would get away with killing Erin, and yet was so, so stupid, thankfully.

Btw, a bit off topic, with all of the pregnancy talk...if anyone is interested in really learning about it, I recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". I read it, and it really helps to understand what the body goes through all month, then through pregnancy, etc. it's much more informative than anything I have ever read, and has really helped me understand why I feel crappy sometimes! It even teaches how to figure out your cycle if you are really irregular. Its a pretty easy read, yet manages to be extremely informative. (Not associated with the book in any way!)

How many of us would get in the car with our lover's wife, just the two of you, to go anywhere? I certainly wouldn't. Must less to go out in the middle of nowhere. And, if that's what happened, why did EC text her friend about CL taking her away for the day?

S&BBM for focus: I have thought about that. NL and EC had once been friends until they had a falling out. Say for instance NL contacted EC and said she wanted to talk to her, to bury the hatchet so to speak before she went back to Alaska, I can see Erin agreeing to it and being willing to meet up with NL. Everyone says EC was a sweet girl. She probably was bothered by losing the friendship she had with NL. She might at least be curious what NL wanted if she was called and asked to meet with NL. JMO

And not to mention... Dishonorable discharge has to be reported on most professional job applications. It's basically as bad as having a felony on your record, IMO. It can really ruin your life.

Sorry to quote myself but I wanted to add, he would have also lost the ability to buy a home on the VA loan program. This might have been important to him as well, to provide a nice home he owned, for his child.

Also, according to what was posted yesterday about affairs in the military, he could have been sentenced to 1 year in the brig.

Yes, this. I was about to post something similar. While I don't *think* that EC did get into a car with NL, I am not completely nixing to the idea as impossible. NL could have said any number of things that would have led EC to believe there was no danger in going with NL. Even possibly saying that CL told her everything and wanted them all to talk about how to work it out maturely. jmoo

There are probably a lot of texts Erin sent to her TN friend that we don't know about. Like how she really felt about Jon and her marriage, about why she fell for CL and started up an affair with him, why she thought the baby might be CL's and not Jon's. Things we just don't know. However, we DO know that she text her TN friend that she was meeting with CL that day for a celebration of her pregnancy.

O/T Would someone please tell me what S&BBM means? I've tried searching the forums for a listing of abbreviations, but I am not having any luck finding one. Thank you in advance.

self moderate

To me, since the family was moving out and they had been neighbors, I don't see it as far-fetched that this could happen. Not probable, but possible.

Thanks for making me feel that my suggestion wasn't completely stupid. :)

Considering she was on her way to meet CL, it seems less likely to me. Erin couldn't present an honest front that the affair was in the past, best wishes, etc...also you would think she would be just plain scared if NL turned up...on this special day...Jmo.

I know it was only rumor that a neighbor/friend walked in on CL/EC, and that she told NL about it, and that NL then told JC. I believe it was true. Too many people knew about the affair, so discretion was cast to the wind. If there ever was a time when CL could have been brought up on charges for adultery, it was when everyone found out about the affair. It seems, too, that there were a lot of folks that knew the affair was ongoing. He could have been charged at any time.

I don't think it ever entered his mind that he could be dishonorably discharged or lose any benefits because of an affair. What he feared losing was his family. No, that fear didn't stop him from having an affair. He could/would/and probably did deny it. He probably had a great explanation for the compromising position the neighbor/friend caught them in. What he couldn't deny was a baby. He had to have believed he was the father. If JC was gone a lot or if EC told him that she wasn't sleeping with her husband, he would be convinced.

If accurate, this article explains how she would know the father of her unborn child. If Jon was away for at least a month at a time, there was only one man she was having sex with and it wasn't Jon.

Yes, agreed. I think the friend who said that over the past few months Jon and Erin had "grown apart" was essentially implying they were no longer intimate. To me this would explain quite a bit.

My mind is on Erin right now and those final moments before she died. Did she know it was coming? Did she think he'd follow through with it when he started it? Did she know why he was doing this to her? What did he say to her if anything? Or did she have her back turned and never saw it coming and died not knowing why she had to die???

I can't even make my mind go there most of the time. :( It's so sad and horrible to think about. Honestly I hope she had no idea what hit her. I'd like to think she was out for what she thought was a celebratory day with someone she apparently had feelings for and then either got hit or shot in the head from the back, and died or became unconscious very quickly. I have no idea if that's what happened but it's my hope for her sake.

The only way to make this work, IMO, is if NL met them there. Perhaps in a red car.

No way would the "red car" (as described) have made it out to the location of the mine.
