I just don't buy it. There are so many ways to get around this pregnancy other than murder.

First of all, there's abortifacients. Anyone who wants to avoid a pregnancy (and who isn't troubled by that pesky thing we call a conscience) knows about these. And since they are the same things that a couple striving for success in their pregnancy is taught to avoid, anyone who already has a child (namely Chris and NL) also knows about them. Papaya, Pomegranate, ground up old birth control pills, Whole Bottle of Vitamin C, Evening Primrose, Ginger Root, Parsley. Chris makes up a "special drink", for their "special day" and all his "problems go away".

Secondly, he can float the idea of her getting an abortion herself. "I'm soo happy, your having my baby.." .. Ten minutes later "I'm just so scared baby; what she might do to us if she finds out this way; She'll tell them and I go away for Adultery, I'll never see you again." .... " I can't believe I've got to say this, but I feel like this isn't the right time for us.... To have this child, right now(?), we're young, you're fertile, I'm virile, we're sexy, yeah baby, yeah. Let's have a baby,... as soon as I'm free of my old ball and chain" ... "I love you sweetee" Blah blah blah.

Or, if she doesn't go for that, he just convinces her to have the baby with Jon, get him to sign the Birth Certificate, and then "we're home free", "Jon'll pay for the baby's expenses, and we'll get family time when we're married in a year. Besides, you still care for Jon, you don't want him to wind up with nothing right??" Etc. Etc.

He could manipulate her about the pregnancy, just like he manipulated her into giving up her sexual parts for his amusement, he certainly didn't have to kill her for that reason.

I agree, the pregnancy factors in here, but something else drove him to go that extra distance... to murder her, something separate from that. And therein lies his extended culpability.

I've been following this case from the very beginning on WS (and only this one, for some reason) that I think is tied into a deep empathy for the victim (Erin Corwin, a young woman on her own for the first time, who had married and vowed to be with her husband/high school sweetheart for all the right reasons) but I think was vulnerable and trying to find her place in life in a somewhat alien and sparse emotional environment at 29 Palms in a desert marine combat-ready training zone as a new and young wife away from what she knew and understood coming from a big, lovingly protective and supportive family), so it just may have just turned out that she felt lonely, and was vulnerable in some ways, and CL saw that and eventually took advantage (maybe)... she was very young and attractive, and had time to spend, so it ended up she was there at the Horse Ranch where CL and his wife (her neighbors, also into horses and the rescue aspect of it being affordable to marine families compared to high-end-you-have-to-have lotsa money-kind of stables) who I think I think introduced her to the Ranch and initially welcomed and carpooled with her until CL and Erin started to feel something for eachother, and it became a problem because they were both married as part of a marine couple at that base (and neighbors in the same onbase apartment complex, etc).

Fast forward a few months, and knowing what is assumedly factual from LE what happened, and trying to guess why CL eventually felt his only/'best' option was to get rid of her (kill Erin) in lieu of any other more seemingly 'normal' solutions to the problem (assuming her being pregnant and her being into having his baby regardless of the fallout was the 'tipping point' in their relationship), and as much as it doesn't seem like a reason for most sane people to kill, he was too deep into his secondary life with Erin (playing along, not having been called out, planning to escape when the getting was good with his Honorable Discharge date, hoping she would just go away, but she wasn't quite willing because she believed they had something and they would find a way to be together), and he realized celebrating her pregnancy was the only way to keep her from blowing up his spot, so he orchestrated her demise that day (hunting trip, shooting, close to a mine shaft where he had researched was so remote she would never be found) , and he did the deed (offed her) to protect his primary life[/B with his wife and kid, as an honorably served and discharged marine, so he could go back home to AK as planned, thinking no one would be the wiser... well, what he did and thought he could getaway with just goes to show IMHO, that there are people whose social/moral/emotional compasses they use to direct them are SO OFF, so thank goodness LE and the rest of us are here to call them out and demand justice. Just saying, sorry for the rant-ish aspect of this post, but just had to parse out what could be possible scenario for such a heinous outcome from seemingly regular people that have a lot of anguished people just plain flummoxed...

I just got another idea of how he could have gotten around the pregnancy, if it were the fabled "straw" as it were, without having to kill her.

This one is a little more bizarre. I got the idea from a Law & Order I saw a while back, I remember it because Sebastian Roche was in it, and a girl was obsessed,.... well NVM.

This is so simple, it's scary, and even he would come up with it . What he does is:

1. Sleeps with his wife wearing a condom.
2. Keeps the condom, ties a knot in it and puts it inside a small plastic bag.
3. Buys a stuffed bear, cuts a hole in it, puts the condom bag in it, and sews the hole back up.
4. Wires his Jeep for sound, concealing cheap microphones all around it.
5. Gives the bear to Erin during their "special day" as a pregnancy gift.
6. Gets Erin talking about what she sees as their future together.
7. After the special day, He takes all the recorded conversations back to his computer.
8. Chops up all the audio, and turns it into fatal attraction, with just her voice.
9. Goes to pay phones at times when Erin is at the horse ranch, etc. and replays the recordings for his answering machine.
10. Breaks up with Erin.

If she goes nuts and tries to "turn him in", it plays right into his story. The cops come knocking he tells them they kissed once at Christmas or whatever, she lost a baby, then she became obsessed with him. Tells them she said she's keeping something of his in her teddy bear. plays the messages etc. It's all over. NO MURDER NECESSARY.

Personally, I hate having to come up with these sick things, but if it helps put this 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 away for two murders instead of one, so much the better.

Obviously Killing her was a separate issue from concealing the pregnancy which he also attempted to do during this kidnapping turned murder, his simultaneous yet widely divergent motivations led to two separate lines of criminality that both culminated in murder, crimes for which he should pay separate penalties for. It's the perfect storm, of murder. ALL JMO

If his lawyer hates losing, maybe he will end up asking for a plea, once he sees the evidence. He did not fight extradition, which I am relieved about. Jmo

I completely agree - no murder necessary. But the murder happened, at least from what we know so far. Since we know she is no longer alive I just hope it was quick.

JMO but I don't think he kidnapped her, at least at first. I think she did go willingly and probably had no idea what he was doing or planning to do once they got there. It makes me so sad to think of her in the car for TWO HOURS all excited about her pregnancy and their day together and then how it ended up.

well, whooah, ahhh, or wow, or omg!!.... could be why LE added on the somewhat unusual charge of 'lying in wait', cuz the peeps they have in their crosshairs are sure to be fixed 'six ways from Sunday' (hopefully, just got some hope left in that direction)... there may be a lot of transgressions that warrant legitimate charges...

Btw, a bit off topic, with all of the pregnancy talk...if anyone is interested in really learning about it, I recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". I read it, and it really helps to understand what the body goes through all month, then through pregnancy, etc. it's much more informative than anything I have ever read, and has really helped me understand why I feel crappy sometimes! It even teaches how to figure out your cycle if you are really irregular. Its a pretty easy read, yet manages to be extremely informative. (Not associated with the book in any way!)

ITA. I read this when I was trying to conceive and found out I ovulated very early, even though my cycle was like clockwork. I learned things about how my body works in my late 30s that I should have learned in my late teens/early adult years. I think every older teenage girl should be given this book--just so she can learn about and really understand how her body works. I will give it to my daughter when the time comes.

I totally agree. Fantastic book. There are some "oh my" parts that reminded me of 8th grade health, but clearly, and this thread seems to be proof, the general population doesn't know a lot about the female cycle and getting pregnant. Men can get away with not knowing I suppose but women definitely should know this information about their bodies. Even if they're not attempting to get pregnant, or using other methods not to get pregnant, you should still have a good knowledge of what your body is designed to do so you can understand what's going on.

YES, hopeful 'in the extreme' that whatever happened to Erin in the 'final moments' of her young life, she was oblivious to what was happening and did not suffer (please!!!!!!)

I read it trying to learn how not to get pregnant, I learned so much about my body though. And I agree, my girls will read it. It's like the late high school version of "care of keeping of you." (A pubert book aimed at the 8-12 year old girl) lol

Erin may have gone willingly with him, but on his end, he was luring her to her death. He knew why he was really there. The search for body disposal says that. Jmo

http://www.georgianewsday.com/news/...rder-erin-corwin-to-keep-family-together.html

"Erin had told her Marine husband Jonathan she was headed to Joshua Tree National Park to scout trails she and her mother could later bike, but she never returned home." - See more at: http://www.georgianewsday.com/news/...eep-family-together.html#sthash.rxkzOSLS.dpuf

So, this is new....OR they need a Proof Reader...
The article used the word BIKE...
Perhaps they meant Hike?
IMOO.

Since Erin has been located I have read the reason to be "bike" in several articles. It definitely is new. WAYYYYYYYYYY back I posted links to every reason she was reported to have been going to JTNP for (picnic, family outing, photos, hike, etc.) and "bike" was never one of them.

Exactly... I mean it's a horrible thing to 'hope' for but given how she was found, it's about the best I can hope for. I hope she didn't suffer. I hope she didn't even know.

Think it's a typo. Spell-check wouldn't kick that out cuz it's a real word and can be used as proper grammar in that sentence. fwiw.

Question for those in the know. Why haven't mines been imploded for safety reasons to close them up? Budget? Historical value?

I am definitely no expert and all of the information I know about abandoned mines has been learned through research done due to Erin's disappearance. That being said, mines can't really be "imploded" to close them up or you will have a lot of unstable and collapsed land around them, making the area even more dangerous.

What they do to make the mines "safe" is one of two things at all of the access points.

1.) Cover the entrance with a type of fence, grate (like the one posted several pages back made of rebar) or heavy metal cap that prevents people from inadvertently wandering into one yet can still allow for bats (mainly) and other animals to access the mine (mines in this area are crucial for bats and extensive studies have been conducted to determine which mines bats are actively using, etc. Who knew?) and,

2.) They can "cork" the top of the mine shaft with a type of foam that hardens and, when completely dry, can withstand thousands of pounds on top of it. Once dry, it is covered with dirt and one would never know a mine shaft was once located there. This method is used when they wish to completely seal an access point to a mine that is not heavily used by bats.

I stumbled upon this which explains more about the "plugging process" for those interested (or for those, like me, who love Mike Rowe.)
http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/dirty-jobs/about-this-show/mine-plugger.htm

Also, as someone mentioned, some of the mines in this area have recently been sold (on EBay, none the less!), presumably to people who are interested in trying to make some money off of what might still be able to be mined out of them. I know there has been a resurgence in mine interest over the past 3+ years (knew someone who purchased a mine in the middle of the desert a few years back and was hopeful they would "strike it rich" with their purchase. I thought it to be the zaniest idea ever. Only time will tell, I suppose.)

A lot of the problem with securing all of the tens of thousands of mines in the region is time, manpower, and money. JTNP has actually done more to secure their mines in and around the park than most of the other National Parks in the region. There are just so many of them around.

Hope that helped.

Good thinking. You might be right.

Just checked out his FB page. Interesting guy. His office is in Chino which is very close to Rancho Cucamonga. If CL keeps this attorney and goes to trial I think it will definitely be interesting.

So would this guy be the new um AK defender??? Ok, bad joke, but couldn't resist considering that is CL's username for some of his SN accounts.

PALM DESERT, Ca. - Christopher Brandon Lee's attorney spoke to KMIR exclusively regarding the murder case of Erin Corwin.

Attorney David Kaloyanides advised Lee to waive his extradition rights to speed up the legal hearings in order to look at the evidence carefully and legal strategies.
Lee will be extradited in the next few days, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Once he arrives in California, Lee will most likely be booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

Video at link-

The attorney has a point. Also, all delaying would do is give them a chance to find more evidence, put together their case ....I actually don't know why people would fight extradition.

Green papaya contains latex which induces uterine contractions. Pomegranate Rind induces menses. The morning after pill is just a higher dose of a drug normally used for daily general contraception. And by old, I meant pills that are not being actively used at the moment, as I'm sure if he took them from someone using them currently they'd be wondering "where's all my birth control pills"-Not ones that are expired.

Herbs and plants: (theres about a hundred more but these are at the top of the list, esp. the bold ones) Sage, Yarrow, Blue Cohosh, Blue Gum, Licorice Root, Lavender, Basil, Rosemary, Savory, Wormwood, Barberry, Goldthread, Fumewort, Mugwort, Goldenseal, Hyssop, Walnut, Peppermint, Chinese cucumber, Mayapple, Juniper, Marshmallow(the plant, not the confection), Tansy, Henna.

Ten or so of these different herbs ground up in a smoothie, with some birth control pills, would definitely produce a reaction.

Yea, but it would also show up on lab tests. She would remember what she drank, and who gave it to her. And, that's assuming she liked the taste of this "potion" enough to drink it all.
