You have got to be kidding me! Thank goodness the good sam. retrieved the checks and got them to the rightful owner. The human race can be so disgusting. :notgood:

Couldn't it have just been about the sex? Maybe the sex was phenomenal and she was hooked on that? Sex and love don't necessarily go together with some couples. (I hope I don't get sent to my room again for this.) I'm not bashing the victim, honest.

Well, Seajay, I may be joining you in time out for saying this, but I think I have to agree with you. I think he held some sort of animal magnetism for her; hey, she was initially lonely and friends and neighbors easily morphed into a physical thing. IMO, Erin, aside from being naive, probably didn't even have much experience with males because she sounded like she only dated Jon before she was married to him. She may have been curious and attracted to CL because he seems like the polar opposite of her husband--definitely more of a bad boy type than her genteel, sweet hubby. And you know what is said about the forbidden fruit...

Just for fun, my lil' bro sent me a pic of us kids heading out to the desert, ages 11, 9, 4, and 2, on 2 of our ponies, Champ and Diablo, 1972. We'd be gone all day. This was before all the "Save the Children" stuff came along.

Murder suspects hardly ever plead guilty, Imo. The NG plea is almost automatic, if they do not confess during the initial interview and sometimes, even then. And defense attorneys immediately start their PR campaign indicating there is no evidence, police jumped the gun, etc...when in fact, in murder cases, Imo, prosecutors can almost be too difficult to convince that charges should be brought. When they are, I trust police have the evidence to back it up. We have seen enough to convince me already and I doubt we know the half of it. Jmo

Tell that to Ryan Ferguson, Barry Beach, The West Memphis Three, David Milgaard, James Curtis Williams and Raymond Jackson, David Camm, Clarence Elkins, the innocence project, the CCRC, etc., etc. Please don't throw the book at the jury system just because one guy is definitely guilty. Newsflash, the police usually get it right, and people with brains, who don't close their minds help catch those times when they get it wrong.

Yup. Plus he was paying her attention that she probably wasn't feeling she was getting from Jon, not after the miscarriage. I think you are right about Jon probably being one of her only experiences with men. She was young and they were high school sweethearts. And there is an excitement in having some other man desire you when you are feeling down in the dumps. And who knows, the sex might have been incredible between CL and EC. The excitement, the newness, the attention can be heady stuff for a girl who may not be feeling she's getting what she needs at home. Ya know? Not bashing, just talking about human nature here.

CL owned a .22 rifle. A .22LR is a deadly weapon in the right hands. Granted a .40 cal is a capable weapon but be fooled a .22LR is quite deadly. The advantage a .40 cal gives is it will do more harm if the shot is misplaced. I thought there was some mention of a .45. Many vets/military prefer a 1911 as a personal weapon. Has there been any mention of that anyone can remember?

Thanks Mrs G. Although the larger calibers would have done the job, It appears the weapon of choice was the .22 cal. Probably dropped the shell casings in the mine thinking "they won't find the body", so casing are safe here (JMO). The .223 are military spent rounds, don't think this was used. I'm wondering about the .40 cal casings also. Guess we'll find out later.

Newsflash, the police usually get it right, and people with brains, who don't close their minds help catch those times when they get it wrong.

I am not at all convinced all of the above are innocent...but whatever. I think police do get it right most of the time, when the arrest comes after a month of investigation, includes electronic data, affairs, etc...anyway, I won't be on the jury.

I wonder if the .40 cal weapon is one of the things they found in the mine with her and it just wasn't reported? I have a feeling there was more stuff down there that we don't know about. I think the .22 (or is it .223?) weapon was found but as far as I've read the .40 weapon wasn't found/reported (so far - just the casings). I've wondered about that as soon as we heard about the casings.

I don't get the attraction either but he was a few years older, probably very buff and nearby. Loneliness can really do a bad number on the best of people.

Home schooled? I missed that too I guess.

Redeeming quality? Loved horses (supposedly) and good with them... as a fellow animal/horse lovin' girl that can be VERY attractive. It's embarrassing to admit but in my late teens/early 20s especially, watching a guy with a horse or pretty much acting kind to any animals made me weak in the knees - even guys I'd never have talked to otherwise, and I promise I'm not a 'snob.' They weren't my type at all except <swoon> the horses. And add to that CL was a neighbor, Erin considered him kind/loving, and her husband was gone for long periods of time while she was adjusting to life in a strange new area. Doesn't make it okay, IMO, but it helps me understand how the affair could have happened.

Really? I'm honestly asking, is it that bizarre to see stuff like this happen in other areas? Before we got the locking box and stopped using the outgoing mail/red flag our mail got stolen ALL the time, and we're in what's generally considered a nice suburban area. Again I think it's awful that the checks got stolen but it's not surprising to me. I hope the rescuers' stolen check story makes the news so other people nearby can check to see what bills/checks/etc. are missing.

Before we got the locking box and stopped using the outgoing mail/red flag our mail got stolen ALL the time, and we're in what's generally considered a nice suburban area. Again I think it's awful that the checks got stolen but it's not surprising to me. I hope the rescuers' stolen check story makes the news so other people nearby can check to see what bills/checks/etc. are missing.

In my area, it's not a common thing.
