For someone who grew up in Alaska, the wild, untamed frontier, he sure must not know much about guns. A .22 caliber gun is a weak weapon to use when trying to kill someone. I really question the use of that as a weapon to kill Erin. Unless it's the only gun he had and he never did have a .40 caliber weapon. IMO.

Couldn't it have just been about the sex? Maybe the sex was phenomenal and she was hooked on that? Sex and love don't necessarily go together with some couples. (I hope I don't get sent to my room again for this.) I'm not bashing the victim, honest.

Yep. It happens often. All those raging hormones and the loneliness... Time and perspective help us distinguish between love and lust. I think with a little time Erin would have realized what she wanted for herself and her baby. Poor girl never got the chance.

I was and still am of the mind, that perhaps he didn't kill her before she was left in the mine. Erin would expect him to have a rifle for hunting and a .22 would be sufficient for rabbits, etc.

I'm not saying she wasn't harmed by the .22 before or after she was pushed in the mine...just that perhaps he wasn't relying on the .22

ETA: I would be surprised by a Marine only owning a .22, those whom I know who are either active or former military have several firearms.

I meant to add that thought to my post. Sometimes when I think of something to write, by the time I get one thought out, the other is gone. LOL

Yes, with him being a Marine, he had training in weaponry. Between coming from Alaska, where a weapon means survival, and being in the Marines, where weapons are a part of training and service, I would expect him to be versed in them to the point that he would know that a .22 is for varmint hunting, target practice and little else. Trying to kill a human being with one would not be the best choice of weapons. IMO.

A .22 is not a powerful gun as far as knock-down strength but that light bullet can tumble around inside the body and damage a lot of internal tissue and organs. If she were shot with that and dumped before being dead, it would have been a pretty ghastly way to die.

In this article, it says that spent bullet casings were also found in the mine shaft that matched the ones they found in CL's jeep, so with at least 3 pieces of evidence in the mine shaft with Erin's body that can be connected to him doing her harm, an accidental fall would be pretty far fetched. A creep in a jeep, lying in wait. blech!!

This is not at all directed to you personally, but towards a lot of comments I have seen on here--AND, I have been guilty of this myself! We all have ideas of whether NL helped or did not help with the murder, or helped to cover up things. The problem I have is that we know very little about her, and for us to say things about how she feels about the murder is not logical. I don't even know how CL feels about it, and he is the one who we know has been arrested!

The only things we know about NL are these:
1. She had a baby at 15 or 16 and married the father soon after
2. She may or may not have said the things about CL to IM as we heard from IM (who is not reliable at this point)
3. On her Pinterest account she has a ton of posts that we CAN use to assess her character at least a little bit, and I'm not sure I see someone who would be proud of a husband for murder. The most I can say is that she was sad and angry about the affair (based on the posts), but who wouldn't be?

Just wondering why you believe IM "is not reliable at this point". I may have missed references to her reliability in MSM or from LE...?

Glad to give you a laugh -- I've been wanting to say he is a creep in a jeep for awhile now, couldn't resist anymore!

I know and agree (BBM). It makes me wonder if that is why DA Ramos referenced why the public would find her death especially "awful" when it is revealed...

Wonder how long until they release cause of death?

Not until the preliminary hearing and that could be delayed for months... IMO.

With the .22 rifle being part of the search warrant.............and the spent shells at the mine, well, it doesn't sound like death was quick.

"Ghastly" and "awful", certainly sounds like it.

I'm trying to catch-up, so I apologize if someone has already pointed this out.

Several posters have wondered if NL was the witness that CL asked about the best way to dispose of a human body. According to the arrest warrant/crime report, it states:

"A witness also informed detectives that Lee asked him what was the best way to dispose of a human body."

Because the witness is a "him", it can't be NL.

Probably sad but true. In this article, it says

"A search of Lee's Jeep Cherokee turned up 10 spent .40 caliber shells, a weapon that searches of his home and vehicle never turned up, court records reveal."

http://crime.about.com/od/current/fl/The-Dissappearance-of-Erin-Corwin.htm

So if .40 caliber shells were found in his jeep and in the mine shaft -- this 2nd article says

"After Erin's car was found outside the Twentynine Palms base, detectives found nearby tire tracks that matched the tires on Lee's Jeep. Authorities also found ammunition in the Jeep, which matched the spent bullets found at the bottom of the mine where Erin was found.").

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2014/08/28/erin-corwin-marine-wife-murder-gold-mine/14741271/

So then perhaps this indicates the .22 wasn't used in the crime, even though he owned one (both a .22 and .40).

Remind me quickly to save me from searching all over for it...
Which gun was not found? .22 or .40?

I think the .22 was found at the ranch. The .40 was not found. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

The .40 rifle was never found. The .40 shells were found in his jeep and in the mine shaft. Sounds like he got rid of the gun he used to shoot her, or shoot at targets, but left casings in his jeep and in the mine, thinking they would never find the mine or the gun.

I haven't seen statement from LE or in MSM about whether the .22 was found or had been fired, but it was in the search warrant, so maybe they found it and analyzed the .22 and determined it hadn't been fired recently.

Wow, I think this statement from Jon is really touching:

Excerpt from this article:
http://www.armytimes.com/article/20140826/NEWS/308260052/Erin-Corwin-s-Marine-husband-says-he-now-has-closure-

"Lee has been charged with first-degree murder, but could face an additional murder charge if an autopsy confirms that Erin was pregnant at the time of her death.

On Monday, Jonathan said he had once called Lee a friend.

The Lees had been neighbors of the Corwins since last fall, when Jonathan and Erin moved into an apartment building on the Twentynine Palms base. Jonathan and Lee shared a passion for off-roading and recreational shooting, and their wives volunteered at the same horse ranch, so the neighbors became fast friends. They hung out “almost every day,” Jonathan said.

In March, Jonathan discovered Chris and Erin had a brief affair. However, Jonathan believed the fling was over, and so he had made amends with his wife and tried to forgive his neighbor. Jonathan didn’t discover the affair had continued until after Erin had disappeared.

Even now, Jonathan tries to forgive.

“Obviously, I hate the actions that he did. But I feel like, if I let him bring hatred to my mind every time I see him, he is just going to pull me down,” Jonathan said Monday. “When I first figured out about the affair, and everything, he was still my next door neighbor. There was a part of me that wanted to go take care of him. But if I did that, I would be in the same boat as him — I would be a bad guy. And that is just not me.”
