I did not know that. So a dishonorable discharge, or how does that work?

Could be either NJP or court martial. Depends on the unit and people involved. And yes, could very wellend up in a dishonorable discharge.

Maybe the perp was seen leaving the park in his own vehicle after they opened at 9?

There's multiple ways it can be handled. Sometimes people are just reduced in rank. Sometimes people are given a dishonorable discharge. It's up to command. There are no set in stone penalties. IMO, it's one of those laws that is selectively enforced. Quick story..I married my husband right as he was retiring from the Marines. His first wife accused him of having an affair (not with me! I met him after his divorce!). He got called into court, basically, and had to prove he did not have the affair. She was attempting to ruin his 20 year career, no retirement, no benefits that he eared, nothing!! If he was found to have had an affair, he could lose it all. He was cleared of her accusation. The truth played out.

I'm sure LE will not be happy with this story, they went to great pains to keep everything quiet until they felt it should be released. I have mixed feelings on the subject personally. Does it help or hurt a case, to release critical details at a certain point?

The article states the source is close to the investigation. Maybe it was "leaked" on purpose? It will be interesting to see if other news outlets start reporting on the same thing.

Ya know guys!
It is possible she was having an affair but they could have been using protection and she was maybe not using protection with her husband.
or visa versa!

  • #306
I would assume the only way they would know if the baby she is carrying is not her husbands is if her husband had mentioned it due to them not having sex. Otherwise how would the radio station know that? She hasn't even gone in to find how far along she was yet so she wouldn't know know... Seems really odd. But I'm betting if they know for sure that it isn't the husband's baby growing inside her then the husband would know too... Seems like an odd claim for a news report. I saw a poster claim this same radio station did a story on her family that was untrue so perhaps they are muddling facts.

  • #307
IF this story holds water, it could be why none of her family knew until they arrived in 29. We thought it was so she could tell her mother in person and share that moment, but maybe it was because she wanted to break it all down for her.

I think this is all a bunch of horse@#!&. Too coincidental that the aunt just happened to try and drop this bomb the other day. Why ? Damage control, misdirection, blah blah. I think more proof is needed before even wasting time considering this possibility.

  • #309
I was afraid that it was going to be an affair.
I have read comments about how Erin is and she is shy and wouldn't do this or that but we don't always know everyone like we think we do.

I feel terrible it has turned out this way and I pray that her family gets the closure they need and she is found very soon.

But then why is Erin's family allowing the link and comments to stay on FB if not true? Her sister-in-law runs the page, not anyone on Jon's side if the family.

That to me is quite telling. If not true they would have deleted the posts like they have so many others.

I think one of the FB pages was being taken down earlier. I thought I had something in my feed earlier about it. Just now, I tried to go to the "Praying for Erin" site and it wouldn't take me there despite it being listed when I searched for it.

People will say the "public" knowing information will "jeopardize the investigation." That's wrong. The general public believing one thing or another isn't what makes an impact. A specific PERSON knowing information may, in very rare instances, make an impact. Usually, that person already knows the information (since they are usually involved). The people who say releasing information harms an investigation usually can't provide an example showing how the spread of information (accurate or inaccurate) by the public can harm a case. I think it's preposterous. The "public" knows what they know, or thinks whatever they think. Different subgroups within the larger group labeled "the public" think differently. If they don't know something and someone starts a rumor, and that can harm a case, there's something wrong with our justice system.

The police SHOULD hide information specifically defined in "sunshine laws." The laws are related to protecting informants, personal information, etc. I can see some rule breaking being effective at the very start of an investigation, for example if someone is in danger after being kidnapped.....maybe a few other instances. I would do my best to use the control of information to test people suspected of crimes early, while they are being questioned, to tell whether they are being honest. After a couple of days, I become irked by those who claim the release of information is a big deal (in the negative). NOT releasing information is a big deal.

Releasing more information publicly sooner, in my opinion, CAN help locate missing persons more quickly. If Erin is not found in JT Park, OR if the rumors coming to light are accurate and have been hidden as a priority above finding her, I won't be surprised. I will be angry (once again).

Yes. They said yesterday they were taking it down.

2 things: other entrances to JT and a HUGE storm on July 4...

If there is foul play and Erin didn't disappear by choice...why would anyone even slightly familiar with the area enter through the gates of Joshua Tree where there are cameras??? I've traveled in/out of JT by a few other routes while off-roading and exploring over several decades - you can pay on your way out if you enter through one of these ways. (Anthony Martinez's body was found on the south side of JT on - or near - one of those entrances, which is the most difficult of the trails I've been on.) There are other trails in from the 29 Palms side as well. Granted, the perpetrator may not have had an off road vehicle, but if he's local why in the world would he CHOOSE to drive in/out of a gate with a camera instead of going ANYWHERE ELSE in the wide open desert that's right in front of him???

So if the perpetrator was seen on camera, which seems to be the case, and doesn't have an off road vehicle which also seems to be the case, he couldn't have brought Erin very far from the paved roads inside JT, even if she went along willingly. It's just too hot to plow through that sand, especially if you have an unwilling victim with you. That would leave tracks of some sort, unless they were wiped out some way, so onto a question I have...On July 4 in the afternoon, there was an ENORMOUS storm that traveled through many nearby areas quickly. I was traveling through Calimesa on the 10 fwy and we wondered why all the cars were stopped. Within 30 seconds we knew because there was a downpour that was crazy, including large (for SoCal!) hail, and since we couldn't go anywhere we turned off the freeway only to find all the streets flooded and every gas station and bank overhang occupied to avoid care damage from the intense hail. I know the storm also hit Big Bear and Yucaipa, but didn't touch Beaumont, so not sure of the path it took. It was really weird and intense, so I'm wondering if it hit JT and wiped out any possible tracks??? Anyone know?

As unlikely as it would seem the desert areas can have some strange weather. I even saw snow in JT one winter!

The article was removed on the Locate facebook page, and then reposted about an hour ago. It's still there.

I don't know why, at this point, they don't just address it. Just acknowledge it and move on.

Yes. 29 Palms and JTNP were hit hard by that storm. The area where the car was found was hit particularly hard.

I still see both postings of that articles. And all the fighting/discussion about it.

No, just working with that theory since that's the only place LE is even looking for her...sounds like they must be pretty sure.
Has she been found in Joshua Tree? I might have missed some news.
