Mostly I was voicing my disgust for the people on the Facebook page and just thinking out loud about what could have happened. I thought this was a safe environment to do that. I guess not. I'll save the "sappy" stuff for elsewhere.

To clarify, Erin wasn't at the base alone for an extended amount of time, right? TIA.

She stayed in TN until just before he came back stateside, I believe she just went out a short period of time ahead of him to set up the house, IIRC.

Who is judging her? No one here that I have seen. But if it is true, the scenario produces a possible new suspect. The whole point is finding out what happened to Erin. I have not seen any judgement. Jmo

Yes I agree. I think we are all pulling for the couple, without a doubt. But, part of figuring out where she may be, what may have happened, etc revolves around the company she was keeping, motives, timelines. I don't think anyone is judging her, just trying to figure out any/all possibilities and maybe even establish who could maybe know something.

That's what I thought days ago, but others almost had me convinced there was another deployment in there somewhere. And that she was alone and lonely until her husband came home.

  • #466
Actually, he could have been in the desert locally for days or weeks. So I guess she could have been home alone a lot. Even though he was just miles away.

And those of us who are posting about why people have affairs, even good loving people, are trying to get inside her head and figure out what could have happened and if she had an affair, who she turned to for both the comfort of the affair and possibly a confidant about it.

I am ashamed, I must admit, that it's taken me this long but I've only just now done the legwork on where the car was in relation to her departure location and her intended destination and WOW is it ever an eye opener.

The car was found at the intersection of Valle Vista Rd and Ranch Rd, which corresponds to 75099 Valle Vista Road. The google map search: " 75099 Valle Vista Road, Twentynine Palms, CA, United States " will take you straight there.

It is by all accounts the middle of NOWHERE.

This location is Appx. :

-4.5 miles North East of the main cross streets of 29 palms
-1.5 miles North of the closest suburb of 29 palms proper

The main cross streets (intersection) of 29 palms are themselves Appx. 20 miles North West of Joshua Tree National Park

Doing the math we see that her car was parked at least 2 miles in the opposite direction of travel from her home to her supposed intended destination, which put it in excess of 23 miles from same supposed intended destination.

It is clear that searching for her in Joshua Tree National Park is a fools errand at worst, at best it's a clever but also pathetic ruse to thwart a suspects suspicion.

(an article I just read pointed out that the military base might be the subdivision to the north west so it might not be the opposite direction after all, however since she would have passed Utah Trail by a kilometer or so to get to ranch rd and that is the only road into Joshua Tree National Park from the north, it still seems unlikely she was headed in that direction.)

Nail meet head, clu. This isn't necessarily the thread for all the sappy stuff. There is another part of the forum for that kind of stuff, IIRC.

The reason is not to get "sappy" but we're not allowed, on WS, to go with theory as if it were fact. Threads have been closed down for that reason. The mods must be busy now because of the new forum format or something. I, for one, don't alert unless something is really bad. But when posting, one must type 'if true' or 'what if' this or that - not just run with a rumor as if it were true because they read it on FB.

Longer (on WS) posters are just trying to help so that peeps don't get time outs and mods don't have to spend an hour cleaning up threads while we are shut down. I guess that's what it takes some times for peeps to get the message.

A lot of military marriages happen at this young age, Imo. And a lot of girls everywhere marry right out of high school. It is not that unusual, especially in small towns, Imo. Nineteen is old enough o be in the service for a year already...so I guess they are expected to be adults.

But affairs or flings happen in all types of marriages, at any age. Should never be cause for a possible murder, yet we see it all the time, unfortunately. Pregnancy and/or money are usually the motives.

All jmo.

So true that people marry young, especially in the service, but obviously in this instance, it doesn't sound as if mature decisions were made. I still consider 18-19 year olds to be very young in general, as they should be. JMHO.

I am certainly not judging her. She is only 19 yrs old. I never expect 19 yr olds to always make the most rational, optimal decisions. I think she was probably overwhelmed and in over her head. And having experienced a few tragic miscarriages, I know how devastating they can be. I was very emotional and reactive afterwards. Thank goodness I was in my 30's and not 19.

Well, if true, let this be a lesson. Affairs never solve anything and only serve to cause more hurt and possibly create worse ramifications. And, you will become the victim (most likely) of an affair when that relationship becomes familiar.
Character does count.

Sorry about my choice of words ("sappy"). I didn't mean offense. I said 'necessarily' as in it is certainly ok to voice those things in here, but just realize that some of us try to view cases a bit more dispassionately. Doesn't mean we don't care though. Of course we do. Again, no hard feelings.

Let's discuss the case and not each other. :tyou:

Salem came into the thread earlier and said because the article was posted about the affair in MSM, it's fair game to discuss. I don't think anything is being stated as fact, just exploring possible avenues.

I am somewhat familiar with this area and lemme ttell you - it is desolate! And a person can be out there for hours and not see a soul. I wonder if any satellites could see something, though? IIRC, the air is still clear in those parts. I haven't been there in 15 years, however.

I would also imagine that if she did not go to college, she would have lost medical insurance (on her parent's policy)? If so, it could be a reason for marrying young and eloping.

No hard feelings. And I apologize for being a bit snippy in my reply. I am emotionally invested in this one, more than usual. There's just something about them starting their life together, two kids from patriotic families, this one just tugs at me.

Understood, but I think we've been pretty good with the 'if trues' and such. We didn't run rampant with the alleged boyfriend idea until it was reported in the media, upon which Salem gave us the go ahead to speculate/sleuth. Even then we aren't accepting it as fact, but only as a credible source in which to discuss.

Again, I shouldn't have used the word 'sappy'. I can see how that could be misconstrued as judging. Not my intent.

Jmo, news radio is more MSM than Nancy Grace will ever be.
