*Sentencing Hearing (@ 8:30am PT) – CA – Fabio Sementilli (49) (Jan. 23, 2017, Los Angeles) – *Monica Sonia Crescentini Sementilli (45/now 53) (wife) arrested (8/18/17), indicted (8/31/17), charged (8/18/17) & arraigned (8/31/17) with capital murder with special circumstances of murder for financial gain & conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. Held without bond. DA will not seek DP. LA County
Jury Selection began on 1/21/25 & ended 1/22/25. 12 jurors (10 men & 2 women). Juror #2 was replaced by an alternate on 3/19/25. Juror #2 [new one] was replaced by an alternate on 3/20/25.
Jury Deliberations: Day 1 [4/9/25]: 10:15am to ~4pm [minus 1 hour lunch/~4 hours & 45 mins]. Day 2 [4/10/25]: 10am-4pm [minus hour lunch/~5 hours]. Day 3 [4/11/25]: 9:30am-9:45am/15 minutes. 6/23/25 Update: DA Beth Silverman spoke. Victim impact statements by Niece of Fabio [did not catch name], Daniel Portachilli [sp?], nephew of Fabio, Prosecutor read statement from 1st wife of Fabio's, Anthony Portachilli (sp), nephew of Fabio, Loredana Sementilli, sister of Fabio's, Mirella Rota Sementilli, sister of Fabio's, Gessica, oldest daughter of Fabio & Monica's, Isabella, youngest daughter of Fabio & Monica's, Ana Crescentini, older sister of Monica's.
Judge sentences Monica - Count 1 - Life without the possibility of parole, Count 2 - 25 years to life, but stayed. Plus court fines. Can appeal within 60 days.
*Christopher Austin (38/now 39) – Plead guilty on 1/17/25. Sentencing on 4/30/25 to 16 years in prison.
*Robert Louis Baker (55/now 63) (wife’s BF) plead no contest/guilty on 7/7/23 & sentenced to life without parole.

Wish I knew this great man, Fabio Sementilli. I mourn that he was so betrayed. Betrayed by one closest to him, and slaughtered in his own backyard sanctuary. He had so much more life to live. He touched so many people in a positive way. All those who loved Fabio, sharing in the courtroom, had me in tears. I think it was what Fabio's two daughters had to say that sunk in the most with despicable Monica. Their words got to her, and what Monica did that marred those childhood memories forever can't be changed. Not sure she can feel true remorse, but... What she did to her own children's lives should be hard for her to live with in the years to come. Hopefully their words sunk in and will haunt Monica all the remaining empty days of her life in prison.

You do get to see her occasionally, esp. when her daughters talk. Don't think the daughters have come around to the fact that she masterminded this. Maybe someday, but no sign of it today.

She is such a coward, she didn’t want to face anyone. I’m sure she has heard about the fake faces we all saw and she was stuck between another fake face and no remorse. She is probably mad at herself for making those stupid faces, they were so incriminating.

Judge said he had no input on where she was housed (which the attorney already knew, I think he was 'just making a record').

Probably my biggest surprise was one of her daughters saying they thought when the trial was over they (Monica and girls) would all go home and start rebuilding their life, apparently truly believing she wasn't going to be convicted.

Maybe it's just too hard for them to see the overwhelming evidence of her mother's guilt, or simply to believe her mother could have done such a thing. I wish them both the best in the future, if the truth ever hits home to them, they'll need a lot of help dealing with it.

As for Monica, sayonara forevermore, you well deserve your fate. This case just really struck a chord with me, and it took so long, so many delays before it came to trial. But it finished well, with the proper judgement and Fabio's family getting to have the last word. A fitting end.
