The above-linked Chinese article has some puzzling things in it. Why can't either of Fang's daughters get an emergency visa? How does having their mother declared missing prevent them from getting an emergency visa? That's exactly what emergency visas are supposed to be for. Have they been misinformed? Or do they just not want to come? I'm very puzzled.

It might take a week or two to arrange the visa, and again, the family (being in China) might not know how - but at some point, if they want to assist finding their mother, they're going to have to start contacting Chinese language speakers of status in the US (college communities, reporters, lawyers, etc). They'd be better off spending whatever money they raise on a good immigration lawyer to get at least one of them over here to get publicity for the case.

At any rate, translating the comments into English gave me some surprising results. People's views on the US, on travel, on solo women traveling and on how we Americans are afraid to go to San Bernardino and how there's nothing nearby to see are really interesting.

No help from those people. They are almost all blaming the family and saying some pretty negative things about them. It's sad.

The article did say that Fang was last in touch at around 10 pm on the 22nd. 27 days ago.

IMO.

It's almost like we need a law in California that would force LE to consider someone "at risk" and "not voluntarily missing" after a certain time period (not likely to happen though). In this case, we have a person on a three month vacation who may just be holiday making.

(Seems really unlikely to me - couldn't there be some kind of missing persons oversight group??)

Side update from the desert. All the news I see is talking about the hurricane hitting Southern CA on Sunday. But I'm not finding any coverage of how the CA/AZ/NV deserts are already tonight being hit by intense storms - wind/lightning/rain - that will continue straight through the hurricane hitting on Sunday through Tues. I don't know exactly what will happen out here, but all the dirt roads wash out when it rains even a normal strong bit. For those who do not know the desert, there are natural "washes" or arroyos - ie natural lines/routes of land that turn into powerful rivers suddenly when it rains - they cross roads, run through properties, etc. Dry unsuspecting areas turn into rivers and wash away everything in their path - cars, people, rocks, everything.

I hate to write this, but if he left her body somewhere out here, dependent on where it might be, this storm would likely impact that location. It seems as if there are no active search efforts. But as everyone digs out from this storm, people will have to deal with cleaning up from the debris that the desert has washed onto our roads and properties, etc. It's awful to think, but if she was left somewhere in the desert, this storm may help her be found.

According to family except for the missing post, there’s no other flyer available. I’m compiling the basic info along with photo and if there’s anyone available to help design, I would truly appreciate.
My Google Account was hacked and passwords compromised, after resetting passwords there are still issues, I’m hesitant to share files from either iPad or iPhone until I get someone to confirm- I’m not tech savvy.

Request submitted to be Verified.
I will gladly make one. Let me know what you want it to say.

I got a couple people to pick it up on Twitter and a PI to take a look.

If I can find LE or former LE that knows about MP cases to join me, I might be able to pull together a YT stream about them. My channel isn’t TrueCrime primarily, so it won’t get a ton of exposure, but anything is better than nothing.

That is so generous of you.
Still, I’d be cautious. That person helping Fang’s family at Reddit seems to want to control what gets put out on YouTube and other media. Not sure why they think it may be detrimental for her family. JMO

FJ is clearly not voluntarily missing. She clearly told her daughter and friend she would be in contact every other day and she was until she wasn’t. Something has happened to prevent her from reaching out to her daughter and friend. Either as the result of an innocent accident or a malicious and intentional action. Why is LE not acting?! Can FJ’s family sue them, get a lawyer to apply pressure on them? LE have let this lady down :(

The family should shout from the rooftops about FJ. At this rate, with the LE hardly doing a thing, they cannot be precious about what info goes out and what not. They need to get the info out. There is no reputation to protect, just a person to find.

IMO it's too late for her, am sad to say. Logically speaking, too much time has passed...if she could've made contact with her loved ones, she would have. Either they have both succumbed to heat/exposure/accident in the baron land or a disagreement lead to something bad and he has fled :(

I took the time to read the article about life in Wonder Valley. (Thanks to the WSer who shared it)

After reading it I realized that the people who choose to live there do so to live "off the grid" and live in community with one another to survive the harsh conditions. If FJ and JRF went there, it is believable that they would not be able to contact the outside world. I doubt there would be any cell reception.

As for FJ not contacting family for so long, that does make me wonder if she is being held against her will.

JMO

This website allows one to search which carriers provide service in this patch of desert we are all interested in right now. Here is the link to the map which shows AT&T Mobility. The menu above allows one to select other carriers.

I totally agree. And if she or they are out there somewhere, this storm coming though may cause others to be out more afterward (in general), searching for any who need help, etc. The aftermath & the people out cleaning & searching may be the best chance to find them or the vehicle, imo.

I have something very much in common with Fang Jin (I'll keep it short so as not to derail)

23 years ago, in August 2000, I flew from New Zealand to LAX to meet CK, a man I had met over the internet having conversed for 6+ months

Back then I wasn't aware of worldwide dangers...not for one second did I think I was doing anything risky. We'd progressed from chatting online to daily phone calls, he lived with his parents and a fluffy lil dog and I just trusted him completely, no question

We met at LAX and drove to San Diego where he lived, had a look around there and next day drove to LV for a few days holiday. Then back to SD and we went by foot across border to Tijuana for a day. I'd not long started new job so only had a week away and flew back next day. It was a lovely experience and I treasure the memories. Few months later he came to visit me in NZ but in the end we parted ways, it wasn't to be

I think that a lot of people meet over the internet and most people are not dangerous- too much time reading WS gives all us too much to think about IMO

MOD REMINDER (Quoted directly from HERE):

Websleuths does not condone members becoming personally involved in cases by initiating contact with family members, case players, law enforcement, or the media. This does not preclude responding to a request for volunteers or utilizing proper channels to report valid information, i.e., "a tip", to law enforcement.

If you submit a tip to law enforcement, do NOT announce it or discuss it in any way on the threads. Doing so has the potential to undermine an investigation.

I see you, sister! I had a very similar experience about 15 years ago, but I went from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern. I think it’s a big reason why this case tugs at my heartstrings.
