I suspect LE have already reached out to the ex-wife of JRF to see if she is willing to talk with them about JRF. I hope she does, and if LE in CA haven't reached out to her, then I hope she has reached out to them.
If he has to check in with probation, how is that going?<modsnip>
OTOH, the desert Southwest is unforgiving and my own top hypothesis is that there could have been misadventure (getting lost on a remote trail; going off the road in a remote area and getting stuck or having an axle break, etc, etc). No cell service in many of the places near Thermal or Julian.
And I'll say that I'm of two minds about whether SBCSO has contacted Border Patrol (federal agency) to go over crossings into Mexico for a certain time period. I sure do hope so. I remain hopeful that they have. For one thing, JRF is a felon, as I understand it, and that has to raise concern - PLUS, it seems he's on probation? So surely his "voluntarily missing" status could be a red flag, for him, in a way that it is not for FJ.
WHERE is his truck? Since it has not been found, I do wonder if he took it into Mexico (or even just Arizona - if he knows anything at all about successfully and illegally crossing the border, he wouldn't attempt it, I don't think, in California). It's very hard to take a vehicle across illegally, people usually abandon their vehicles (often hiding them) and walk over. Several places to do that, for the knowledgeable.
IME. IMO.

makes him officially "missing" and not voluntarily just awayIf he is deceased, sort of a moot point and a bit out of his control.

Regarding the discussion of what the Chinese Consulate can or should be doing to help find Fang—
Different countries, but I came across a case where the Consul General of Mexico personally took a more active role in the search for a Mexican national in Osoyoos, BC, Canada. She stayed for two days to talk to the authorities, hand out flyers, and meet with local businesses and officials.
Consul General of Mexico aids search for Carlos Tomas Aranda Burgoin
“What we know is that Carlos was last seen in a hotel, the police arrived there and tried to talk to him,” said Ceballos.
“They were going to take him back to the farm where he was working but suddenly, he ran into the darkness, into the hills.”
The Consul General of Mexico has indeed been more active in recent years than any other Consul I've seen. In that case, the family in Mexico had the wherewithal to put some pressure on the Consul General. So, again, it comes back to family being very proactive. I can't tell if that's the case here (nor do I know if Chinese citizens feel okay about pressuring their Consulate somewhere else).
In that case, the missing person (who is still missing?) ran away voluntarily. It appears he was there to work and disappeared when police tried to contact him. From the article:
So there was a last known sighting, in a specific place. The search was then conducted in the hills. There is no last known point of sighting of the truck - and if we assume the Thermal camping is accurate, then...the search should start near Thermal (except that then JRF's phone traveled, apparently, to Julian). So there is no clear starting place.
At any rate, I find the Mexican Consulate in California to be much more proactive than any other. I've met the Consul a few times - because he's very into community relations and does go to meetings and activities hosted by law enforcement and educators. They seem to have a good budget. The Vancouver Mexican Consulate could send two people to the other side of Canada to help publicize this search.
Can Fang Jin's daughter and other family could put similar pressure on the Chinese consulate? I don't know. But there is no place for representatives to show up - they need to do a presser! I've seen pressers by the Mexican consulate (and 5-10 local media outlets always show up). I'll have to do a news search to see how active in PR the Chinese consulate here might be.
I'll report back!
IMO.
Just FYI, that case was resolved, unfortunately his remains were found in the lake.In that case, the missing person (who is still missing?) ran away voluntarily. It appears he was there to work and disappeared when police tried to contact him.
Ah, very interesting!Just FYI, that case was resolved, unfortunately his remains were found in the lake.
In that case, he wasn't on a tourist visa, but part of an official Mexican government program, in partnership with the Canadian government. So consulate involvement much more relevant.

Does FJ have a daughter in Belgium as well as a daughter in China? Is the daughter in Belgium able to travel to the U.S. to help with publicity regarding the search or other? What are the verified facts today for search locations?
1) last video post by Jin on 21th July 22pm CA time in 29 palms nearby Marine base
2) picture Johns car and numberplate by official camera in Thermal on 22nd of July
3) last cellphone track of Johns cellphone on 24th of July in Julian
So my opinion is that if we want to find what happened to Jin .... max 1 hour drive from location 1)
If we want to find car or why car was photographed in Thermal we need focus in area 2)
If we want to find out why Johns cellphone or maybe John went to Julians .... we need area 3)
Are there other facts that can be linked to other search areas after 21nd of july ?
Thx for helping searching these missing people ... and support both daugthers of Jin in Belgium and China
3 hrs 20 mins from Twenty-nine Palms only posting because there r 2, not sure how deep the canal is to be hiding the truck...fwiw
