Don't go biking Bean. LOL Egads, I can't believe someone would actually start a fire, and then especially when the conditions are so dry. Hope they catch these/this dangerous person. Do they usually catch people that start big fires? I remember when they caught the forest ranger up Montana way a couple of years ago.

Stay safe guys. I lived through ash when Mt St Helens blew and that was simply awful, but nothing like the smoke would be from a bif humungous fire like this.

Thinking of you dear Californiaites.

This is our red alert fire season. It has been in the high 80's here and dry..Santa Ana winds doing their thing. This happens every year.
Awful.

This fire was deliberately set by arsonists.. according to the CNN article linked in the first post.

Arson that causes death is intentional homicide. 4 firefighters are dead, a fifth in critical condition. God Bless the families and pray for the one still fighting for his life. The four that have died.... they have died heroes! Thank God we have police and firefighters that put their lives on the line to keep us all safe. When one of them dies in the line of duty, it must be the only thing their families have for consolation. I feel so sad for them today.
i see that...crazy arsons. sick sick sick. With these kind of conditions, this fire could burn for a long time and they are already evacuating some areas.

This is so sad for the firefighters and their families.
I hope they catch whoever started it and charge them with 4 counts of murder.
Stay safe.

Prayers for these brave firefighters and their families.

They just had a report on our local news. The fourth firefighter who died lived for two hours, long enough for his wife and five children to come and say good-bye. {{this is so sad}}

The last injurred firefighter has burns over 90% of his body with extensive damage to his lungs. {{sorry, doesn't look good}}

This makes me so mad! Why do people set these darn fires anyway?

The fire started swiftly, aided by the the Santa Ana winds and many people had to practically run for their lives, ...........some, leaving their animals behind. These same people were on tv crying about their animals. Many had horses, etc. They weren't concerned with their property, just their animals. :(

This is heartbreaking. :(

God bless those that lost their lives and their families and I pray that all who are presently on the front lines stay out of harms way. We don't need to lose any more of our firefighting heros.

The Riverside County Sheriff's office already said in a news conference, to the one(s) that started this fire that he(they) won't be able to rest because they ARE going to catch him(them). :furious:

Awful, awful stuff, prayers to those brave firefighters and their families from the east coast. Can someone explain how authorities know it was arson? This has been driving me nuts all night.

--->>>Moe, there are two threads on this fire, the other one can be read here
http://websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44231&goto=newpost

Mods probably need to merge them both.

The fire starter person must have left some significant clues. TV said last night that the fire had been tracked back to the point of origin, so no doubt something told Law Enforcement in 'that' area that it was arson.

It's what they do Moe. They know fires. Maybe several sprang up one after the other.Don't know the ins and outs, but they do and they know of what they speak!
They may have found some evidence. There is so to be a press conferencwe this morning and they should update us on the investigation.
It is really smokey here.

I just caught the end of a news report. It said one reason they think it is arson is because it started in an area that would cause the most destruction. there was more, but I missed it.

They radio DJ's specualted they will probably keep the evidence as to how they know it arson to themselves, because there will be a murder trial if the culprit is caught.

I just heard on the news they are looking for a white van that they believe is owned by the person who set the fire. So they must have a witness who saw this van right before the fire started. Praise the Lord! I was so worried it would take forever to learn anything about the sicko. I know there is an art and a science about investigating how fires like this start, but have learned nothing about that part yet.

Well, often it is just this. Someone was seen leaving th area right before the fire. They have just said the reward will be 300K for info leading to the arrest.

I think if they detect any kind of accelerant that is always a tip off as well.

You are a well Respected member on this website and loved by all.Even by the ones who are not registered.Your posts are important and I am glad that PaperDoll put this thread here.
You posted on this thread and contemplated riding your bike.
No,no,no......do not even think of doing that.
We want you safe and sound.
I wish that the thread that you have in the jury room was here in this forum.
It is something that should be seen by all who visit here.Sometimes people lurk here for many months and do not register.I was one of them.So for some, guests (lurkers),it is posters like you who entice people to register.
Many are weary of registering and posting on boards because of bashing and disrespect. If a poster does not conform to the beliefs of one or more posters on other boards, they are bashed.(IE; courttv, ect.I have never registered on those boards)
After a while of lurking here I registered.I saw how this board is moderated and saw the Respect given to posters.I saw the compassion of those here.
I want to thank the mods, you, and all of the other great posters for making this website what it is.

Thank-you for transforming guests into members.

Officials Increase Reward to $300G for Arrest of Arsonist Responsible for Firefighters' Deaths

BEAUMONT, Calif. -- As flames roared through the canyons of Southern California, authorities tripled the reward to $300,000 Friday for the arrest of the arsonist responsible for the deaths of four firefighters in the nation's worst such tragedy in five years.

A fifth firefighter lay in grave condition with burns over 90 percent of his body.

Firefighters labored through thick smoke as curtains of wind-whipped orange flame pushed through uninhabited brushland about 90 miles east of Los Angeles. The blaze that broke out Thursday destroyed about 10 structures, including homes, forced 700 people to flee, and flushed coyotes and other wildlife into the open.

Investigators have not said how they know the nearly 40-square-mile blaze was arson, how it was set, or why. But they said those responsible could face murder charges
