Found Deceased CA - Fresno business owner Surinder Pal, missing under mysterious circumstances,

For those who can't access Facebook, here's a YouTube link to the wife's interview:

His wife did a news interview yesterday.

Surinder Pal goes by his last name, and seems to be pronounced like “Paul”.

Sounds like his wife knows where he goes for supplies, as she said in the video about where his Dodge Caravan was found, “It’s not the way he would normally come. He would just come straight on Ashlan.”

She uses the word “come”. I wonder if that implies he was on the return trip from getting supplies? If she had instead said it wasn’t the way he would normally GO, then I would say he was on his way TO the supply place before disappearing. I don’t know, depends on the semantic context, I suppose…

I guess it would’ve been easy enough to know, by if supplies were in the minivan—or if it was from a business place, interviewing personnel as to whether or not he made it there.

I wonder where exactly his vehicle was found? Looking at the intersection of Temperance and McKinley—if I have the right location on Google Maps—there doesn’t seem to be street parking on either street around there.

I do see there’s a housing development there. Maybe it was there? I hope they are looking at traffic cams or Ring-type of doorbell cams.

That area is/was pretty much farmland. It looks like they're starting to do some development of some kind. Houses maybe?
Although, one of my friends lives off Temperance/Fowler area out there somewhere, so I'm not sure how far that developing goes.

Here's an article about an Irish person who was detained for "months."

I agree it's unlikely that Mr Pal has been detained, just pointing out that this tourist was never "officially detained," merely "taken into custody." He was behind bars for 100 days, shuffled here and there, never learned why exactly until he was finally released without ever being detained or on any list.

Fortunately, his girlfriend was with him when it happened, so they knew where he was. Well, they didn't actually know the exact where (which would drive me personally crazy if I were the family member). But they knew what had happened and could keep putting pressure on to find out where he actually was. He was ill and had been told by doctors not to fly due to fear of blood clots.

So there is a difference between "held behind bars in a facility used for detentions" and the actual process of "legal detainment." It is the second thing that gets into the public database (supposedly, eventually). Here's another example of a 17 day stay (without due process or being formally detained) of another Irish tourist - she was in a detention center but eventually released without formal detainment:

She had a lawyer and was able to get processes in motion to save herself from an actual detention (and deportation).

None of last week's detainees from near where I live here in SoCal. There are a reported 400 of them - we know for certain that some of them are citizens, as one is the grandson of a high school classmate of mine - and that classmate was born on US soil, as were his children and grandchildren. The grandson is 16. The other citizens include people known to my colleagues and family members - I'd say we have a count of about 10.

Of course, it's only been a week and 1 day.

My own fear is that local PD's are going to have to disentangle all of this in cases like Mr Pal's, in a region where LE is already stretched thin.

IMO. I guess in a way I'm being optimistic, hoping that Mr Pal is relatively safe while in custody somewhere, rather than the other alternatives.
Thanks for sharing. This latest government memo regarding bond hearings will make detention even worse.

Hey everyone
Unless ICE has been mentioned as a possible reason for Pal's disappearance in mainstream media please let's not discuss. Until we have something to prove this is the case let's just stick to the facts OK?
Thank you.

It would be interesting to know:
-was the van facing mechanical issues or was it still working when found
-what the examination of his phone data yielded. His phone was found abandoned in his van
-what forensic evidence was found, or not, in the abandoned van
-if LE has any nearby CCTV footage
-why he is considered at risk: is this because of a known underlying health issue, or because kidnapping is suspected?
-there is no trace of foul play near the van, but can it be excluded that he did not enter another vehicle (voluntarily or not)
- is there any ring camera footage near or at his home? Did he go home before vanishing? The van was found abandoned just a few minutes away from his residence
-where there any financial difficulties or other issues related to his businesses?

Many more questions, no answers. There must be some back story , all this makes no sense.

I wonder if there’s more we are unaware of that would explain the disappearance. Any financial troubles?

I just noticed that on July 8 the Clovis Police posted this:
(Bolded by me)

UPDATE: 07/08/25-
Mr. Pal is still missing and considered at-risk. He was last seen in Fresno near Blackstone and Dakota, and his car was located near Temperance and McKinley the next evening. Mr. Pal does not have his wallet or cell phone. Detectives have been searching by car, on foot, and by UAV (drone). They are also following up on tips as they come in. If you have information regarding the whereabouts of Surinder Pal, call the Clovis Police Department’s non-emergency phone number at (559) 324-2800.

I recall reading that his phone was found inside his car, but I don’t think they mentioned his wallet. I wonder where the wallet was located.

I have a really bad feeling about this. It is right near where his car was found. Hopefully it’s unrelated.

It must be him. What are the chances of a body turning up in the exact spot where someone went missing weeks earlier and it be unrelated? I know stranger things have happened.

The photos in the article above are helpful though. I hadn’t really appreciated how rural the area where his van was found was. Or how big the river is. I agree, it would be quite an oversight if the river has never been searched. But maybe it’s too expensive to do unless they have reason to believe he went in the water. JMO

I would personally expect that, if a person going missing is mentioned to be at risk, the area would be thoroughly searched with all means available.
Now we have seen stranger things, like bodies moved after search efforts have been concluded.
In this case it was said there were no signs of foul play but all avenues would be explored.
But the information is very limited. My heart goes to the family of whoever they found.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The body of Surinder Pal, a well-known businessman in the Central Valley, has been found.

The Clovis Police Department says that Pal's body was found in a canal along Temperance Avenue just south of McKinley on Thursday.

Authorities say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Pal's death at this time, but are still investigating.

How sad. Thank you for the update. “No suspicious circumstances” has me a bit baffled. I wonder what happened? Fishing was mentioned but is it also a place where people stop and swim? Maybe if there is someone familiar with the area, they can advise?

My thoughts are with his loved ones, what a terrible tragedy for them.

To say “no suspicious circumstances”, to me, imo, would mean accident, suicide, or a medical event.

I’m not a local, and there was not much personal background given, so I don’t know which is more likely.

His official missing information stated "AT RISK" missing person. If it's not someone elderly or disabled, it's often a medical issue (i.e. condition that requires regular medication such as type 1 diabetes) or a mental health issue (which may, but not always include self-harm). I'm glad he was found so he can be laid to rest.
