Daniel Southers (25) missing from Fort Bragg, CA 2 months prior is 6’3” and 250 lbs. He is also noted to have a 1” scar on his abdomen.

Looks like a good possibility. Dental charts, DNA test results, and fingerprints are all available for identification.

Same state, he went missing just a few months earlier, similar appearance to John Doe, seems quite plausible.

Poor man, whomever he is.

Thanks for submitting.

I thought I had remembered this John Doe as maybe having a bus ticket (and maybe even Disneyland day pass in his possession) - am I thinking of the wrong case? I'm not seeing that info among possessions - anyone know?

Also, FYI - November 28, 1987, was a Saturday and included with Thanksgiving weekend.

I have received a very detailed response regarding our submission of Fullerton JD and Danny Southers.

DNA profiles for both JD and representative familial profiles for Daniel are in the respective Missing and Unidentified Indexes at the State and also National levels. This means they would have been notified already of the potential match. However, in his personal experience with one of his cases, the system is “not foolproof”

He has requested a one-to-one comparison for a more definitive result. This is already in the works and he is currently waiting on the result.

Fingerprints for Daniel are in an electronic format not directly comparable with the electronic fingerprints related to JD. NamUs has been contacted for a direct fingerprint comparison between the two. Currently waiting results.

Finally, in a preliminary review of both dental charts, they do not appear to be the same. However, he is waiting to rule out these two subjects as a match once the results are received for either the DNA or fingerprints.

Above are the pertinent highlights. Hoping for an answer one way or another soon.

This Doe does look a lot like Danny...I follow Danny's missing page on FB and his family doesn't think this is him because they don't believe Danny would have killed himself, but I don't know that his DNA was ever checked. Fingers crossed that this Doe gets identified soon, whether it's Danny or not.

Thank you for your post. Based on the preliminary dentals, it doesn’t appear that this JD is Danny. Although, I do believe JD will be identified in the near future as FIGG is an option for him which is currently being considered.

Genetic genealogy has been such a gamechanger for cold cases like this...I hope it can help give this poor man his name back!

DNA comparison has proven that this JD is not a match to Daniel Southers.
