I look at his pictures and I just so feel like crying. What a precious little guy he was. Always with a smile on his tiny face despite the constant torment he was living through. I just do not feel as if we have punishments harsh enough for people who do these kinda of things.

L.A. County social services facing lawsuit in Palmdale child abuse case

The complaint naming the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services asserts that more than 60 reports of abuse involving Gabriel Fernandez were lodged with the agency. But only five to eight investigations were initiated, the suit says, and none of those met the department's own requirements for thoroughness.

That would be wonderful. I really want justice to be served for little Angel Gabriel. I think about him often.

You know, his mothers behavior in court really gets to me. She acts like she's lashing out at the step monster but she's as guilty as he IMO. I hope they both never see the light of day again.

According to the Gabriel's Justice facebook page, Pearl and Isauro return to court June 2 2014. It keeps getting pushed back. :banghead: I'm still praying for justice little man!!!!

sigh. There were reports going back years. Long before the stepmonster's appearance into the picture. MOO He simply did what he knew he was allowed to and would get away with because she had been abusive to the kids for years. He followed mom's lead. IMO

Absolutely! They are talking about her attorney working on a plea deal for her. That would be an atrocious. It sickens me to even think about it. My wish for both of them is that they will never have a day of freedom again.

A heartbreaking interview with Gabriel's teacher. This is a devastating story. I can't even begin to imagine the absolute heartbreak this teacher must have felt witnessing the aftermath of the daily abuse inflicted on this beautiful, loving, forgiving little boy, and to try so hard to save him, all in vain. I truly can't even imagine.

Thanks so much for posting this. God bless his teacher. She must be tormented by the memories daily. And yet this woman's attorney (I can't bring myself to use the word Mother) is working to get a plea deal. Shameful!!!

I don't regret watching that video either, as hard as it was to watch. I was really heartened by a thread yesterday about Arizona completely revamping their CPS system under the guidance of their governor.

It sounds like California needs the same complete overhaul. Teachers, who are the closest outside contact for vulnerable children need more power. It just seems the school systems (maybe the nurse or counselor?) should have power to consult with the child's teachers and take photos as evidence and have power to apply for a temporary removal of a child by law enforcement in cases where CPS seems sluggish or unresponsive. Always having to go through this one agency when children are assaulted at home just seems to make the system so vulnerable.

Imagine having to go through some kind of filter before being able to call LE or the fire department? That's what seems to be going on here.

Haircuts are one thing and you could see how that might not raise a red flag. But being shot in the face multiple times with a bb gun should have resulted in LE at their doorstep with an arrest warrant.

Sad, sad case. But maybe he will be able to leave a legacy that will help other teachers get the ear of CPS when a case this severe surfaces.

Timeline: Gabriel Fernandez Child Abuse Death

June 2, 2014 - Fernandez and Aguirre due back in court.

In rereading through that article, a couple things stand out. I think often with DCFS when something slips through the cracks and a tragedy occurs, a caseworker is scapegoated and fired when it really is the system at fault.

The details here of ignoring this child's plea point in a different direction. Whoever the individuals were (4 of them, I guess) who were handling this case it seems they purposely left him to suffer.

When maternal grandparents repeatedly beg for custody of a grand child over their own daughter's wishes, and when that child IS successfully removed and then replaced with the abusive mother, and that triggers numerous calls from the teacher with very legitimate concerns - CPS workers should sit bolt upright and take note. That kind of scenario should go right to the head of the line of emergencies, over kids who may live in dirty conditions or appear to have some other lesser abuse situations or neglect.

I'd be interested after this is all said and done to hear more about the caseworker's complete neglect of this obviously horrible case of abuse.

I couldn't agree more.
