correct me if I'm wrong. The one article I read about the poi being seen at the mall said one sighting was on the 23rd & the other on the 24th. Was he wearing the same cloths? If they have him on video two different days, they surely know what he looks like & are not revealing.

This is correct and because of the time of evening it crossed over to the next day. 1st sighting was at 11:15 pm on 12/23. The 2nd sighting was an hour later at 12:15 am 12/24. So the clothing was the same.

It is really clean. What is up with that license plate? It's bent and looks to not be fully attached. Maybe it had been removed and then replaced. This is a crazy crazy case.

Just a guess......maybe when LE forced open the trunk it was damaged.

This is exactly how I pictured the hoodie, I don't know why they said unique since I have seen a few like that this fall/winter as a new style.
I thought I had missed something tuning in to the presser but now I guess I heard it all except hello. I was hoping they would show some video of the perp since I feel like they have some.

I have to wonder if perhaps the hoodie was had a school or store logo on it? Or maybe a name embroidered on the front?

Could be but I don't see anything else off about the vehicle. Not even a scratch.

Just an FYI. Previous discussion was regarding the POI and limited info from LE. watching news coverage about the MD mall shooting. CNN LE analyst stated in a mall like this (large mall, big city) there are cameras everywhere. All entryways, throughout the stores and common areas AND covering the whole parking lot.
IMO and has been speculated- LE has a lot more info on the POI and what took place in the parking lot shooting than they are disclosing.

I'm not one of the posters here who almost always says "LE has a suspect and is just gathering evidence" but in this case, I actually do think this is the case. I think they probably do have the suspect on camera, have ID'ed him, and are hoping to find any witnesses who might come forward. What would be the point of releasing, at this late date, a description that is mainly comprised of a clothing description, other than to elicit witnesses to place the shooter at the mall that evening. I think they may have the event on camera as well. I just hope I am right.

  • #827
Something tells me that the POI probably isn't the actual shooter, but someone scouting for the shooter. Anyone would know there are surveillance cameras everywhere inside and outside the mall, so the vehicle would be lingering for too long. Perhaps this POI (somebody young and low level who might crack under pressure) was just watching the victim(s) and transmitting info, and was seen jumping into the vehicle seconds after the shooting? LE may be releasing this info to scare the individual into coming forward and talking. Either way, I'm fairly certain that LE has ID'd this individual, and he's probably under surveillance as we speak.

You can read the whole news article at the link provided below. I'm just going to pick out some things said that I find interesting. BBM

Murder mystery: Person of interest sought in Mission Valley mall parking lot shooting case
http://www.10news.com/news/live-at-...erence-on-the-belvedere-murder-mystery-012414

"There has been some confusion with Gianni Belvedere's autopsy and exactly what the manner of death was," Lt. Mike Hastings with the San Diego Police Department said during a brief news conference Friday. "I do not have specifics because the autopsy report is not completed yet and probably won't be for several weeks. However, the preliminary manner of death is homicide."

Christmas tree lot attendant talks to 10News

"Hill said his dogs woke him up, but he said he didn't hear any gunshots, maybe because of the caliber of gun used and noise from the neighboring freeway."

"He said detectives told him, based on the shell casings found, that a .22 or .25 caliber pistol was possibly used."

Former FBI special agent weighs in on the case

"Clearly, these were targeted kills," Garrett explained, adding that it's likely the Belvederes owed someone a lot of money or were involved in the drug trade."

"They had gone on credit for too long, probably had been warned, and they weren't going to take it anymore - the bad guys weren't. And that's not uncommon, particularly if it has something to do with the drug trade, to start taking people out," Garrett said."

"If that happened, Garrett said there has to be a trail hidden in cell phone records, text messages and emails."

"10News has learned the family's restaurant business was floundering and there were bankruptcies, liens and other financial issues in their background."

"San Diego police officials said they are taking the lead in the Mission Valley investigation and the Riverside probe."

"I understand the want for information in this case. ... I can assure you that if this case can be solved, this case will be solved, and it will be solved lawfully, morally and ethically," Hastings said. "I expect to be releasing additional information if it is significant and as it comes about."

More detailed information revealed about business started by murder victim Gianni Belvedere
Family idea appears to have come from Utah
http://www.10news.com/news/investig...ess-started-by-murder-victim-gianni-belvedere

Three years after his family was quoted as ready to launch the new business, Gianni Belvedere registered La Primavera as a business in Utah in February 2013. The three-year gap could not be explained through public records requests.

"In April 2013, Belvedere applied for a federal trademark for his business. On that application, he used the address for Mario's in Lakeside. Gianni hired attorney Eric W. Peterson in San Diego for the application. Team 10's calls to Peterson were not immediately returned."

"It can take several months for a federal trademark application to be processed. Once it clears the initial phase, it is published in a federal document and people have 30 days to oppose."

"Belvedere's application was published for opposition on Jan. 7, when he was listed as missing."

Just trying to bring various info in news articles here.

Gianni Belvedere opened food business, had 'social media guy'
Company worker made post after Gianni disappeared

http://www.10news.com/news/investig...ned-food-business-had-social-media-guy-012114

"There was no record found for La Primavera in a California business search."

"The company's Facebook page, created on Feb. 26, 2013, says the business has been in operation since 2007. It says the La Primavera specializes in "gluten free pizza and pastas."

"Someone claiming to be the company's "social media guy" engaged with a person who posted onto the company's Facebook page about ordering food. That exchange happened just three days after the double shooting and Belvedere's disappearance."

"The phone number listed on the Facebook page has a 619 area code, but no one answered."

OK, so assume an unknown killer.

This UK kills IF and SB at the mall.

Where was GB that allowed him to fall into UK killer's hands and end up dead in the trunk of his own car?

He was last seen, according to some reports, at his home in Tierrasanta. According to other reports, he was last "known to be" (I went back and looked, these reports don't say "seen," on Friars Road near Mission Valley).

If he was at his home, how did this killer flush him out to kill him and leave his corpse in his own car in Riverside County approximately 100 miles away?

And if he was even driving in the vicinity of the mall, same question.

No scenario I can think of makes sense.

The public is being fed a lot of BS, aided by a media willing to swallow, or at least report, what LE says without asking obvious questions. It's disgusting.

Just from reading this thread and all the MSM I dont feel that the media is trying to confuse the public. Its LE who is not clarifying the little details. As far as Gianni it has been said he was for sure with his brother and fiance at the mall but then last seen on Friars rd. It appears that at some point all 3 were seen on video at the mall together and sometime after that Gianni was seen alone on Friars rd. Thats what I get out of all the unnecessary confusion. As far as theory goes I am really leaning towards a hit with Gianni being the target and Sal bein confused for Gianni initially. The killer(s) realized the mistake and then had to go hunt down Gianni. If this is the case then it could be that since things didnt go as planned maybe when they caught up with Gianni they had to go to a plan b and kidnap him first before killing him.

Maybe LE has someone in mind and is releasing the information about the clothing in the hopes of someone finding it in a dumpster or someplace. Maybe it's not the person in the clothing, but the clothing they need at this point.

BBM. I have not seen these facts confirmed anywhere. Could you point me to a source? Thanks.

The last I read, the family said GB was at the mall with the other two, but the police disputed this. I have not read anywhere that they were seen on video.

Press conference Friday. Sure hope someone asks if a gun was found in the trunk. That answer could certainly eliminate suicide. If there is a gun, could still be murder or suicide. Have not seen anything posted yet that would preclude my triangle theory. If no gun, I'll have some crow to eat. Can anyone think of a reason le would not release the gun information?

Yeah, a good reason would be that there as no gun in the trunk. At the time you posted this it had already been confirmed a homicide. Gianni did not kill himself. Geez maybe Im just frustrated but the last 10 pages of this thread were really frustrating with all the sucide talk. Hoping that will stop and we can move forward.

It does look odd, esp. given the pristine cleanliness of the car, no screws holding it on the bottom and bent out of shape.

In addition to a possible case of mistaken identity between Gianni and Sal, if it was a hired gunman with limited knowledge about the family, perhaps Ilona may have taken a bullet intended for Laura since Laura and Gianni were co-owners of the food business.

What ever happened to the news report that they were going to talk about "the ominous Facebook post". Did the person who saw the preview for it see the actual newscast?

I know what you mean. Three people got killed. For what? It seems like it'd have to be something really big and important. If they owed money, then killing them wouldn't get them their money. IMO, it does sort of lend itself to sending out a message to others. The former FBI seems to be the only one saying anything towards a possible motive.

We all have felt such sadness over this case, and we have waited for info, but it's been kept so limited. A big WHY kill three young happy looking people and what would the killer get out of it is on my mind a lot. Something intricate is not being revealed yet?

Patience. :sigh:

One theory that makes sense to me as far as all 3 being killed would be if all 3 were aware of say one of them buying some drugs and all 3 were aware of WHO the drugs were coming from. Say Gianni was making the buy but the other 2 knew about it. Well if they decided to say rob and kill or try some ransom deal with Gianni then the other 2 would tell all. They would tell the cops exactly who Gianni was making the deal with and send the cops right to the suspects door persay. So they had to kill them all. Just a theory but it makes sense to me.
