I don't believe anyone outside of LE knows yet. Obviously they were interested in him prior to charging him for the silencer. That wasn't a coincidence, imo. Perhaps LE was acting on an anonymous tip. Or, more likely, LE questioned someone connected to him who gave up his name. Someone connected to both him and one or more of the victims would be my guess. (And it truly is just a guess.) We'll have to wait and see. Keep your fingers crossed that we get a few tidbits tomorrow from the presser.

I wondered if perhaps, after running the ballistics on the weapons he was found with, the found a common link to one of the murders - I'm just not aware of the backlog rate in California and whether it would take this long..

I did see that google picture and I'm not convince that is the actual unit # he was staying at based on other pictures. JMO of course...

I know that, but I wonder how that happened... or is it really the same guy using different names? This same photo is linked to a mug shot under a completely different name. Hopefully we'll know more soon. I hope the photo (the right photo, if this one's not right) looks familiar to someone in the family.

Well not a lot of information in the presser. Paraphrasing...

- Forensics and ballistics were used
- They are only focusing on Carlo Mercado at this time but "never say never" to future arrests.
- SDPD is not aware if he is still in the hospital but were told he was yesterday. Information regarding his hospital visit would have to come from Sheriff. Had no information.
- Cannot comment on motive or if he knew anyone in the family.
- After arraignment on Wednesday LE will not be commenting on the case as it will be turned over to the DA's office.

Lt. Mike Hastings handled that Press Conference with such professionalism. I have gained added respect for the thorough and excellent job the SDPD did in this case.

What can I say after finally seeing the supposed killer's face? I don't think any of this is ever going to make sense or be a good reason.

Ilona, Salvatore, and Gianni will always and forever be missed by their loved ones.

The previous photo was not correct or Carlo Mercado. Not exactly sure how the picture surfaced but I know it was passed to the family as well and somewhere along the way a carbon footprint of it shows in google now. IDK just a thought and :moo:
