Wtf?
Colour me shocked (yes, again)

I'm glad it was family, at least the public is safe, No?

You're right. The public is safe. But it breaks my heart that a family member can hurt another family member.
The details about why aren't solid, but it makes me sad.

SAN JOSE (KGO) --
Two sons of a San Jose couple found fatally shot over the weekend have been booked on murder charges. (snip)

OH no! I suspected one, but not both. :-(. My theory was the oldest was in love with someone (who may or may not have been in love with him) of whom the parents disapproved (hence the -paraphrasing- I'm not like you, I need to tell her I love her). Perhaps he planned a murder/suicide (hence the reference to the sloppy first kill). I guess I read too much into it. Tragic in any event.

(ETA I think many of us older folks who have raised children hope that evil comes from the 'outside' and not from within the family. I never hope to be a victim of a serious crime but if it happens that I'm looking down a barrel, I pray the face on the other side is not the beautiful child I gave birth to, breastfed, taught to ride a bike, etc....)

The California man accused of his parents' grisly murder says that those who want to find out what happened to them should “wait for the trial.”

[...]

“I want everyone to know what happened,” he said, “but I can’t say anything without a lawyer.”

He was more emphatic when asked if his brother, 17, had any role in the slaying Sunday of their parents: “No, and that’s all I can say. He’s innocent.”

I thought the same thing (I actually wondered if maybe the son was gay and the parents didn't accept that, and the message is saying that he can't live a lie and pretend to be straight or have a sham marriage to hide his orientation), but now I wonder if maybe the son felt like his parents didn't love him, like maybe the parents were very stern and didn't say "I love you" or show signs of affection very often. Some parents equate stern-ness and high expectations/pressure to succeed as showing love, but the children don't always feel or see it that way. I also thought the "first kill was sloppy" part was an attempt to misdirect police by making it seem like it was random and they needed to be looking for a serial killer, not at family members. But then, that doesn't fit it with the personal nature of the rest of the message, so maybe not--

Arranged marriages are not uncommon in Bangladesh and probably not rare in Bangladeshi communities in the US either. I thought perhaps the comments meant that the older son was not willing to marry someone his parents had chosen for him.

Just back after a few days away. I was afraid of this from the beginning. I couldn't get the Menendez brothers out of my mind. Honestly, I can't think of a more horrible way to be killed than by your own children. I pray Golam & Shamima are at peace.

I thought of the Menendez brothers as well

The fact the 20 year old has seemingly vanished is really not a good sign.

I pray I'm wrong about my gut feeling.

SAN JOSE -- Hasib Bin Golamrabbi reportedly shot his father more than a dozen times in the garage of the bucolic Evergreen home where the family lived. Then when his mother came rushing in, he killed her with one shot.

Afterward, Golamrabbi, 22, and 17-year-old brother Omar Golamrabbi purportedly scrawled cryptic messages on the walls near the bodies, and made sure blood was not seeping out into the driveway and noticed by neighbors.

Then the two went to Oakland for a weekend anime convention. (snipped- MUCH more at link above)

They both pleaded non-guilty.

This reminds me of the Shrien Dewani case who was Indian and gay. He married and then took his wife on a honeymoon to Cape Town and probably got others to murder her so he could be a widow and not have to marry again. But there was insufficient evidence to prove it at trial so he got off. IMO both brothers could be gay, had told their parents who still insisted that they had to marry one day. So the brothers did not feel accepted or loved by their parents and could not face the prospect of having to marry a woman that they would not be able to love. I predict that the younger brother could also be gay because he supported his older brother by writing some of the cryptic messages on the wall and making sure the blood did not seep out on to the driveway hence he has been arrested too as he did not report it. Omar's anger must have built up over time.

Police: Brothers tell different stories of parents' killings

"The parents were shot to death on Saturday at their San Jose home."

"Relatives spoke to the brothers on Sunday, requesting they come home because their parents were not responding to phone calls or knocks on the door, Guire said."

"But then the brothers stopped answering their phones. Relatives went to the home and discovered the bodies, Guire said."

http://abc7news.com/news/san-jose-teen-cleared-in-fatal-shooting-of-parents/1400841/

The younger brother, Omar, has been cleared and released.

An earlier article online reported that an "unnamed witness" said the older brother, Hasib has "confided in him that Omar was not involved in the murders in any way." That same article quoted the Daily Mail, so take that for what it's worth.

Hasib was supposed to have a court appearance in mid-July but that's all I've found about that.
