CA - Harvey Weinstein trial on Sexual Harassment #metoo *Guilty in CA, NY Appeal*

  • #661
I didn't follow the case, but what evidence did they have on Weinstein? Is it possible these women seduced him in exchange for a job?
A jury reached the verdict of guilty. He's convicted. Yet, he's not in prison to await his sentencing but is in a hospital - that is the current status with the NY case.

He also faces charges in CA and U.K., but those cases have not yet been presented against him in court.

Post-conviction life for dummies: Harvey Weinstein and others must own up to their crimes
OPINION
By WILLIAM MERSEY
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS | MAR 03, 2020 | 12:00 PM

I had to laugh upon hearing Harvey Weinstein’s first words following his conviction were “but I’m innocent.” Really, Harv? You didn’t coerce beautiful women to have sex with you? No sale, brother. Check it out.
[...]
I don’t hold myself above Paul Manafort or the president or Harvey Weinstein just because I own my crime while they don’t. I just wonder how guys like that rise to the top of the food chain given how they act when it comes to being a man. Then again, what do I know? I’m just a tax cheat. But a tax cheat who owned his crime.
Mersey served a year at MCC federal prison for tax fraud. He is writing a book about his experiences.

Harvey Weinstein Likely Staying at Bellevue Hospital, Not Jail, Until Sentencing (EXCLUSIVE)

With his sentencing exactly one week away, it appears Weinstein will remain in the hospital until he has to return to the courthouse on March 11, Variety has learned.
A spokesperson for Weinstein confirmed to Variety that the former power producer is still under care at Bellevue Hospital, and says he is “likely there until sentencing on March 11.”

- Wow I wonder what stunt he will pull on the 11th...smh!

The wheels of the Weinstein machine are definitely turning. Here's what his prison consultant, Craig Rothfeld, said in a recent NYT article:
Mr. Rothfeld said that quite a bit of work went into getting Mr. Weinstein sent to Bellevue. To persuade Justice Burke to recommend the hospital, he and Mr. Weinstein’s lawyers submitted copies of his medical prescriptions and a notarized letter from a doctor certifying his physical disability.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the March 11th sentencing hearing was suddenly delayed for whatever reason.

I wonder if "quite a bit of work" is code for quite a bit of money. To persuade the judge, they needed to provide a notarized letter from "A" doctor. Yeah I'd be shocked if he showed up on March 11.

Here's what I predict:

He is at Bellevue until March 11.
March 11: sentenced to NY State prison (to a prision not necessarily Rikers)
March 11: whisked off to face charges in L.A., (where the jail conditions are likely better than Rikers)

I think he's pulling this stunt to avoid Rikers. He is scared to go to Rikers.

I am ashamed that the system is working in his favor, when countless of other convicted criminals do not get the same favors. Shame on NY.

We have some big cases in the pipeline for NY and seeing this joke of a conviction is disheartening.

Harvey Weinstein being moved to Rikers Island
Convicted rapist
Harvey Weinstein is being moved to the North Infirmary Command at Rikers Island after undergoing a heart procedure, where he will remain through his sentencing on March 11.

A representative for the disgraced movie mogul told Fox News on Thursday Weinstein is "is being moved to Rikers as we speak." He added that Weinstein, 67, underwent a heart procedure and "is now fit" to be moved to Rikers.

Harvey Weinstein Being Moved to Rikers Despite Bid to Stay at Bellevue, Sources Say
Harvey Weinstein is being moved from a hospital to jail ahead of his sentencing next week on rape and sex-act convictions, sources close to the fallen Hollywood producer said Thursday.

The sources confirm Weinstein is being moved to the Rikers North Infirmary Unit from Bellevue. Those sources believe he will be put in protective custody in a "dorm cell" setting with round-the-clock supervision and medical supervision as needed.

Court TV just said Harvey is being transferred to Rikers
He had a heart stent put in while he was at Bellevue per his publicist .
No info on where he will “be” at Rikers. I imagine a private hospital area.
More info as soon as CTV gets it....

If he's on Rikers, the place where he should be as a convicted criminal awaiting sentencing, then I really don't care what his room is like. He is finally where he is supposed to be.

Harvey Weinstein moved to NYC jail after heart procedure
Mar. 5, 2020 at 2:11 p.m
NEW YORK (AP) — Harvey Weinstein was moved Thursday to an infirmary unit at New York City's notorious Rikers Island jail complex after undergoing a heart procedure at the hospital where he'd been held since his conviction last month on rape and sexual assault charges.
[...]
Weinstein was taken by ambulance to the North Infirmary Command on Rikers Island after doctors at the hospital deemed him fit enough to be moved there.
[...]
Martin Horn, a former city corrections commissioner, said that despite its name, the infirmary is more like a regular jail than a hospital unit.

Built in 1932 as the original Rikers Island Hospital, the infirmary now has smaller, 10-cell blocks that are used for protective units for inmates who might be targets in general population, such as sex offenders and former law enforcement officers.

Horn said the city’s jails have specialized units for the disabled but inmates with serious medical needs are often sent to the hospital ward at Bellevue.

WOW! So he's actually in prison. I wonder if he's out of money.

I don't think he will - I think he'll go to L.A. to face charges there hoping for better conditions there that he can drag on and on while also filing an appeal in NYC.

Unlike Epstein, Weinstein has young kids.

I am pretty sure that he will never see his kids ever again. His wife filed for divorce. Judges are not the most friendly to enforcing visitation for young children to visit their convicted rapist Father in jail or prison.

Even if he never sees them again, a hope that he can maintain a spot in their hearts might be enough to keep the will to live alive.

Of course, I have no idea.

Anyone “who suffered or witnessed any form of sexual misconduct by Harvey Weinstein” was released from nondisclosure agreements.]

Aside from the arrest of Mr. Weinstein in New York, prosecutors in Los Angeles and the police in London have been investigating sexual assault allegations against him. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have also broadened their inquiry into possible financial improprieties to include accusations that Mr. Weinstein violated federal stalking laws.
Harvey Weinstein’s Arrest Comes After Monthslong Downward Spiral

This guy is toast ! He is never going to see life outside of prison ever again IMO .

Harvey Weinstein was a monster his entire life, prosecutors allege
March 6, 2020 | 6:30pm
Manhattan prosecutors are dredging up more than four decades of Harvey Weinstein’s shocking misconduct — including that he once beat his brother unconscious — to lobby for a stiff prison sentence, court papers reveal.

The convicted rapist punched his brother until he passed out during a business meeting, threw a table of food at a staffer, and raped a woman more than four decades ago, Assistant DA Joan Illuzzi-Orbon wrote in a letter filed Friday.
