I agree. I think they are in NY. I find it odd the ex is communicating with the press.
In one of the Daily Mail articles, they spoke to her mom, who said she talked to HP two days before she disappeared and nothing seemed off. HP was planning on coming to NY for Thanksgiving and all seemed fine.

Okay I just typed this out. I've now listened to that 2 and a half minutes probably 25 times. This whole mess of an interview is, IMO, very strange.

NG: Okay back to you JW. This is the father of Heidi's son B. Tell me about that cell phone.

JW: Her cellphone. The cell phone I went into her, uh, her house with D to look around... This is after the police report was - the missing person report was done. Uh, D and I went into her house. Uh, I saw that her phone was - was sitting there. D.. brought it to me... I think.. it was... the next day.. she.. because I was trying to get a hold of friends and family uh.. for Heidi.. So that's - That's how I came into possession of that. I also had to turn that over to the detectives at the uh.. LAPD.

NG: so Heidi, her cell - that'd where I got that. You did find her cell phone but not at the building, it was back at her home?

JW: At her home, yes.

NG: Okay, and, D, you were with J - you were with Jim when he found the cell phone?

D: Um I, uh, she actually had two phones.
She had a work phone and she had a personal phone.. um.. the one that was at the house I believe was the personal phone.. that, I, uh, ended up taking over to Jim, but I had gone to her house on.. prior... I think maybe Tuesday? Monday or Tuesday uh because B text me: my mom's not answering me, um, have you heard from her?
And I said, no, you know, she didn't respond to me yesterday.. which, I mean, was a little weird, but not responding for 24 hours, um, is normal for me not for.. her.. but he asked me to go the house and check, uh, because I have a key to the house.. um so I went over there.. and, uh, one of her phones was sitting on the kitchen counter.. Which is the one that I ended up taking over to Jim after the missing persons report was filed, uhm, because he wanted to see if they find any clues in it.

NG: So the personal phone is the one that you got from her home, correct?

D: I - mean - [I THINK]

JW: [Interrupts]
We don't - Nancy - sorry, Nancy it's J. We don't know if its the personal or the business, uh, the police detectives have told me that was her personal phone.. according to Apple.. That's all I know.

NG: Okay, was it on or cut off?

D It was on.

JW: Her phone was on, but the location services on the on her - on her phone, uh the laptop and her watch, were all shut off.

NG: When were they shut off?

[long pause]

JW: I'm sorry?

NG: When were they shut off? Location?

JW: We don't - we don't know. Another one of those mysteries. We don't know, and if the police do know they haven't shared that with me.

Thinking anout the brand new spiffy Sports Stadium complex.
Surely there are cameras there, too.
Just thinking that if I was fearful of something bad happening to me I definitely wouldn't turn off the location services on my electronic devices. We're they always off or recently turned off? MOO
Apple has a fun feature where you can actually check to see where they were actually last located before turning off.

Major problems for me (correct me if you can please):
IMO they are talking about one phone this entire time. JW says he saw the phone in her house when he was there with D AFTER the missing persons report was filed (10/21 or later in the day 10/20 after reporting HP missing).
THEN D brings him the phone the next day???
At first, okay, fine. JW perhaps left the phone in the house when he went with D to look around? (JW states that he didn't go to Heidi's house until after the report was filed)
That would be kind of weird but I could get past it if D didn't follow up with more confusion...

D then says that she went to Heidi's house on Monday (10/18) or Tuesday (10/19) because B said Heidi wasn't responding to him and asked D if she could go check the house.
The phone in question is on the counter on Monday or Tuesday. D then says this is the phone she took to JW after the missing persons report was filed (10/21).

So, D brought the phone with her after she went to check on Monday or Tuesday but did nothing with it until after the report was filed, at which time she brings it to JW? But she doesn't do anything with this phone after HP's son has explicitly asked her to check on his mother? That can't be right. Meaning she must have left it there? Does she report back to B? Does she tell JW about B's concerns?

When were JW and D there together, then? Was it Monday or Tuesday? The missing persons report wasn't filed until 10/20, which was Wednesday.
They are both very clear that D brought JW the phone, but JW also SAW THE PHONE IN PERSON when they were there together?!

They keep talking about one phone IMO because they say that they believe it (singular) was the personal phone. There's never any mention of finding two phones.

D also doesn't answer the question of when she and JW went to the house together.

There are a few other weird things but I'll stop here.

Did she have a life insurance policy, that would go to her EX to take care of their son?

Thanks for bringing this up. I had the same thought, negative one million chance my husband would think to do this (he has a similar type job too). Especially a man from a wealthy background who has had lots done for him in life. This is totally the suggestion of another woman IMO. The work environment seems clearly toxic for a number of reasons - background SEC investigation/case, a former business partner in jail for a long time, complicated structure (lots of related entities and money to keep track of). But, is it possible that maybe there was a relationship? (Will edit if this is against TOS, help me out senior WSers).

eta if things soured, they probably have a lot on eachother.

How about gout and a mission where JS could not delegate?

Where I am from, it is common for the parent responsible for paying child support to be required to maintain a certain amount of life insurance on behalf of the child until they reach 18. I'm not sure what their child support arrangements were since they supposedly shared 50/50. Here, 50/50 split often negates child support altogether.

This is how I interpret it:

D went into HP's house on 10/18 or 10/19. She saw a phone on the counter, but she didn't take it with her.

JW and D went into HP's house on 10/20 (maybe 10/21) after the missing persons report was filed. The phone was still there and they didn't take it with them.

JW asked D to bring the phone to him on 10/21 or 10/22 so he could get contact #s. After he accessed the #s, he turned the phone over to the police.

HP has 2 phones. JW can't be sure which phone they found, but they think it was the personal phone, and LE told JW it was the personal phone. The work phone is probably missing with HP.

Okay, sooo. I see what you're saying. However.
Why would JW ask D to go back and get HP's phone after he's already filed a missing person's report? If they wanted to find "clues" and they've already filed a report because HP is missing, then why would they not feel the urgency to check the phone when they went over there together?
And D did nothing with the phone after HP's son has asked her to go check on his mom?
If this is the case the sense of urgency is *lacking*

It's just very odd to me. It doesn't sit right

It's a lengthy process for a missing person to be declared dead. The obligation to pay is triggered by death. JMO.

We have heard that HP’s relationship with her EX is good, but what about the EX’s wife?

PS….when I see HP typed out, I think Harry Potter.

Not implying anything, but as another poster pointed out somewhere in thread #1, we have heard that Heidi's relationship with her ex is good, but he is the only one saying that. She is not available to agree or disagree. JMO

Apple has a fun feature where you can actually check to see where they were actually last located before turning off.
But could they be turned off remotely by someone who has access to the account, not the person with the actual phone? Someone could've turned off the feature days before and HP was unaware. MOO

And I can't get the tune of ~Have you seen the Muffin Man ~outta my head now!

This is what happens when you are part of a group of people who have spent the last two weeks parsing every sentence, even every word, of every convoluted news story and convoluted interview in what is probably one of the most convoluted cases most of us have ever seen. JMO

I would say follow the money and you will find this woman. Or follow the hidden money surrounding her boss and company and you will find her…glaring red flags all over this (moo)

However -

Did anyone notice in the video with the muffin man that the trash is gone that Heidi herself walked past in the video of her leaving (which l found odd) it looked like a piece of mail was in the driveway that she just leaves and newspaper- and she just drives off.

I am asking this because when he showed up with his muffins there is no trash - so she could she could have gone home at some point before he dropped them off and picked them up herself before she went missing….

Also did the ex husband or friend find the muffins when they checked the house and the trash? And take them in or pick up the trash…

It would establish a better time-line..

I can understand why D didn't take the phone when she went to the house at the request of the son. HP had only been out of contact for 1 or 2 days at that time. As far as D knew at that time, HP might have just gone away for a couple of days without telling anyone. D would have thought that strange, but would probably not have had a sense of urgency. It was only after HP didn't pick her son up at school that everyone realized something was very wrong. It does seem strange that JW didn't take the phone when he was at the house after filing the report. He must have realized that he should have taken it after he left, and thus asked D to take it to him.

As for it being odd -- everything about this case is odd.

Ok, thanks for doing that. So does this put to rest what was being said yesterday about "two phones being found in the home"?

ETA- In this same video. @ 3:12 NG says "we have one phone, and another phone is missing". Neither JW or D correct her, so I assume we have our answer.
