Placer County sheriff’s detectives have made an arrest in a 24-year-old cold case involving the execution-style killings of a Weimar couple. Joseph Victor Foster, 54, was arrested Wednesday at Correctional Training Facility in Monterey County, where he was serving a 50-years-to-life sentence for the 2006 kidnapping and raping of a family member in Modesto.

Foster is suspected of shooting Jacqueline Sue Barton, 33, and Hugh Cleveland Gresham, 37, on Jan. 7, 1991, at their Placer County home. Recently discovered forensic evidence linked Foster to the killings, according to a sheriff’s news release.

According to detectives, Foster is suspected in the shooting deaths of Jacqueline Barton, 33, and Hugh Cleveland Gresham, 37, on Jan. 7, 1991 at their home on Ponderosa Way.

Dozens of people were interviewed following the killings, but leads eventually dried up and the case went cold...

Foster was moved Wednesday to the Placer County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Thursday in Auburn.

Article from 15 January 2015, when he was arrested:
After more than two decades and seemingly no leads, the Placer County Sheriff's Department announced the arrest of Joseph Victor Foster, Jr., a former friend of the family who would later turn into a career criminal.

I can't find any information if there's been a trial or sentencing for these murders.
