Identified! CA - Huntington Beach, WhtFem 457UFCA, 25-30, in field, Mar'68 - Anita Louise Piteau

Welcome! I like what you did! The only things I would change are the eye color - I think she had brown eyes (according to flyer at link) and maybe make her front teeth look more like the photo. Your picture is amazing - please don't get me wrong :) I just noticed that her teeth weren't perfectly straight, if that makes sense? This may be a good post to add to her original thread here:

I know the possibility of the ring's blue stone being a birthstone has been brought up already, but could it have just been a color she liked? Or symbolic of an anniversary in March? And did LE ever confirm or rule out the possibility that she was seen with a man in Woodland around the time the ring was purchased?

I've been looking into possible Rose/Rosies in NY that fit the profile for HB Jane, and have found one that seems quite promising (aside from no confirmation that she's actually a missing person). The young woman I found was of Russian and Austrian descent, and Jewish, with a last name that could be confused with Italian surnames, especially if she spoke with a strong accent. She got married in 1966 and may have had a child in '65 or '66, but there are no records of her after that (maiden or married names) that I've found.

Like I said, it's far from a strong lead, but she does bear a striking resemblance to HB Jane and the timeline makes sense if she did leave her husband and son behind for a cross-country trek.

[Edited to remove prior post after finding information ruling her out as a possible match]

Thankfully, the young woman I found is now a happy, healthy lady in her golden years and not HB Jane. Of course I'd finally track her down as soon as I post about it. Back to square one for the hundredth time!

I just tried to go to her NamUs page and its gone. As of now, I haven't been able to find any articles or posts about why but...I'm crossing my fingers that they might have finally gotten a match.

Yes, I just tried to go to her NamUs page too and couldn't access it. I really hope that she's been identified.

According to the Orange County Coroner's Office, Huntington Beach Police Department should have a press conference/release coming very soon regarding HB Jane. I'm so anxious to see what they have to say, and I might cry happy tears if she's finally identified!

I didn't get to read your original post so I'm not sure what it said, but Andrea and HB Jane are two different cases. Andrea died in 1990 and was identified in 2017. This Jane died in 1968, having been sexually assaulted and murdered in a field. But, you may already know that. You'll have to excuse my scatterbrain today. Not enough coffee in the world to manage a never-ending stay-at-home Spring Break turned Summer with 3 little boys lol

I'm on pins and needles! Such an old case and I've been following for so long. Did they publicly say this or did you email/call them yourself?

I spoke to the OC Coroner's Office this morning and she said "Huntington Beach Police should be issuing a press release about that case soon". So I called HB PD and left a message with the general investigations desk to ask about a possible timeline for that release. No call back yet.

What else did they say? Did they say when they are doing it?

Any updates?

It's almost been a month and her NamUs page still isn't back up. Seems like a pretty good sign that she's been identified. Maybe they're waiting until they identify her killer since his DNA is available.

RIP Anita. Was she reported missing on any sites?

Sounds a lot like Wanda Kirkum's case. It doesn't sound like they were able to establish that Anita and Johnny were affiliated with one another before the latter killed the former, so it doesn't appear as if they had known each other for very long, if at all.

Rest In Peace Anita, it's good to know that you finally have your identity back and that your family now has closure.
