Connie was predeceased by her parents; sister Theresa Piteau Gallagher, brother Robert Piteau and sister Anita Piteau (missing since 1970); sister-in-law Diane Saucier Rancourt’ brothers-in-law Eric Saucier and Edwin (Midge) Saucier.

I've never seen her in a database for the missing. I know all the Maine missing NAMUS entries because I have an affinity for Maine due to me being raised there. I wonder why she wasn't in NAMUS. Was she ever reported missing? I know in the 60s and 70s missing persons was handled way differently than it is today.

From what i can tell, she wasn't reported missing yet, her family did hire a PI but nothing came from that so they assumed she made her life somewhere. They thought she ran away.

Has a picture of her killer been released?

Through that effort, officials were able to identify Chrisco as the suspect. He died in 2015 of cancer and is buried in Washington state.

Chrisco, the release noted, had been in the Army for three years but was discharged after failing a psychological examination “that diagnosed him with having positive aggressive reaction which was defined as having a pattern of being quick to anger, easy to feel unjustly treated, chronically resentful, immature and impulsive.”

One of seven children, Piteua was found to have two living sisters and a brother, as well as many extended relatives who had been searching for her since she vanished in 1968.

I have to add that this case was solved by forensic scientists and renowned genealogist Colleen Fitzpatrick (co-founder of DNA Doe Project and owner of IdentiFinders)

I’ve spent some time on this one over the years. Never thought she’d be a local.

So happy to see this ID. Poor little sweetheart. May she now RIP.

Always thought that if she was ever identified, she wouldn't be able to get any justice since her killer was most likely long dead. Never imagined that he would have died as recently as 5 years ago.

Me, too. Never researched her UP case, but remember seeing her recon a time or two while searching for other Jane Does.

Sounds a lot like Wanda Kirkum's case. It doesn't sound like they were able to establish that Anita and Johnny were affiliated with one another before the latter killed the former, so it doesn't appear as if they had known each other for very long, if at all.
There are certainly a lot of parallels. Both were killed by a man they didn't know. Both were sexually assaulted. Both the killers DNA was at the crime scenes. Both of them died before the identities of their victims were revealed.

Their cases are also similar to Mary Silvani's case. To my knowledge, they are the only cases where both the victim and the perpetrator were identified through the use of genetic genealogy.

Was John chrisco a serial killer ? Would his DNA been compared to evidence from other cases ? I'm just wondering. In that 1971 booking photo he looks like a pretty mean dude

I'm wondering this as well. I doubt he would kill just one person and never attempt it again.

Pleased to hear an case as old from 1968 was solved through dna. In California they often cremated the victims so I thought it was unlikely this one ever got solved. Perhaps there is hope for other older cases to be solved now aswell. Modern forensic technology really progressed fast.
