MONO COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) - A man and woman found murdered along U.S. 395 in Mono County have been identified as a husband and wife from Burbank, California.

The Mono County Sheriff’s Office said the bodies of William Adrian Larsen, age 35, and his wife Yesenia Arriaga Larsen, age 30, both of Burbank, were found by a snowplow driver on the shoulder of U.S. 395 about 10 miles north of Bridgeport on Monday, November 9, 2020 just before 6:30 a.m.

The highway was closed from Emigrant Street in Bridgeport to State Route 108 and personnel from the Mono County Sheriffs' Office and California Highway Patrol responded to investigate. The highway has since reopened.

Investigators determined that the two had been murdered.

Authorities said the crime appears to be specific and targeted, so there is no threat to the community.

“It had snowed the night before and there was a snowplow out,” Mono County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sarah Roberts tells PEOPLE. “He saw something off the side of the road and stopped.”

The killing appeared to be “specific and targeted and there is no threat to the community of Bridgeport,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release earlier this week.

Police say the married couple lived in Burbank, about 400 miles from Bridgeport, where their bodies were discovered. It is unclear what the couple was doing in the area.

“As far as I know, they weren’t reported missing,” Roberts says.

A California man who disappeared while on a trip to Nevada was supposed to meet a couple who last week were found murdered next to a highway, his family says.

Missing-persons notice from the website of the California attorney general.

Jered Stefansky, 26, of Redding, was last in contact with his family on June 19. He told them he was driving to Carson City for what police described as “a business transaction,” according to a missing-persons notice.

On Friday, Nov. 13, a family member told Redding TV station KRCR that the transaction was part of a $400,000 marijuana deal and that Stefansky’s contact was William Adrian Larsen, with whom he had conducted business before.

William Larsen, 35, of Burbank, and his wife, Yesenia Larsen, 30, were found dead on Nov. 9 by a snowplow driver on Highway 395 in California’s Mono County. Their bodies were left on the roadside 70 miles south of Carson City.

Larsen and Arriaga are accused of possessing with intent to deliver 84 pounds of suspected marijuana and approximately 1,200 vape cartridges filled with a liquid containing suspected THC, according to information in the criminal complaints filed by an agent with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control.

Details on what led to the charges were not spelled out in the criminal complaints.

Two men and one woman are in law enforcement custody following an investigation into the November 2020 double homicide near Bridgeport, according to the Mono County Sheriff's Office.

In the early morning of November 9, 2020, a snowplow driver discovered two bodies on the shoulder of Highway 395, approximately 10 miles north of Bridgeport. The victims, identified as William and Yesenia Larsen, husband and wife, from Burbank, Calif., had no known connection to Mono County. Thank you for updating this case. Hopefully the arrests will also cause Jered Stefansky's MP case to move forward to a resolution- CA - Jered Stefansky, 26, Redding, CA, Drove Rental Car to Business Deal in Carson City, 19 June 2020

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Justice (DOJ) today announced the arrests of Bradley Kohorst, Cory Spurlock, and Orit Oged for the alleged murders of William and Yesenia Larsen, a married couple from Burbank, California. Today’s arrests were the result of a multiagency investigation by DOJ’s Special Operations Unit (SOU), which is a collaborative investigative effort with the California Highway Patrol. The SOU worked together with the Mono County Sheriff’s Office, as well as other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

The bodies of William and Yesenia Larsen were discovered in Mono County on November 9, 2020. The SOU became involved in the investigation of the murders after assistance was requested by the Mono County Sheriff’s Office. Since then, SOU investigators have provided guidance and direct support with the investigation. Through the investigation, it was determined that Missoula, Montana residents, Kohorst, Spurlock, and Oged, were former business associates of William Larsen, and were allegedly responsible for the murder of the couple.

Kohorst was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona on March 22, 2021, while Spurlock and Oged were arrested today in Missoula, Montana, where all three suspects resided. During today’s arrest and search warrant operation, investigators discovered multiple semiautomatic handguns and rifles, ammunition, and cash. Kohorst, Spurlock, and Oged are being held in custody awaiting extradition to Mono County where they will be arraigned on the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The SOU provides statewide enforcement for combating violent career criminals, gangs, and organized crime groups, along with intrastate drug traffickers. These unique and essential teams use advanced investigative techniques and work alongside local law enforcement to enhance investigations into violent criminals and organized crime throughout the state.

The success of this complex investigation was a result of a collaborative effort by all of the agencies involved, including: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Chico Police Department, Missoula Police Department, Missoula County Sheriff’s Office, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Phoenix Police Department, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Mono County District Attorney’s Office, Mono County Public Works – Roads, Mono County Search and Rescue, California Highway Patrol, California Bureau of Forensic Services, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the California Department of Transportation.

It is important to note that charges are only allegations against a person. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
