Sorry Soulscape no mention of the time the search started. But a couple of observations from comments on a couple of sites...one comment says "Coyote debt?" and another questions if perhaps the kidnappers thought Briant was a little girl.
The address where he was taken from is given as 8000 block of Pedley Road in Pedley, Calif.

That info was wrong..Im in the Pedley area, the kidnapping happened in the 8000 block of Pedley Rd and that is considered San Bernardino. That's why I was so FREAKED when I first read that report. It is actually 18 miles from me..

I am really sad to read that they did not even alert the borders immediatly since the suspects said they were going to take him to Mexico and kill him. I can't believe they waited 9 hours to do that. I wonder if the suspects said "we are taking him to Mexico or her to Mexico" ?? I know I read that they told them not to call LE, I wonder if they just said that to keep them from calling LE or to throw them off? I just hope that child is found safley!:(

Absolutely! No question in my mind that this is gang related.

WELL, Here goes...I just read "La Opinion". It is a Spanish Language newspaper here in the area. The Mother is saying that IF her child had been white, there would have been a quicker response/Amber Alert. The sheriffs response was they began to look immediately but without a description of the car, California cannot put out an Amber Alert as soon as they would like. The Mother is also upset that they are questioning her HUSBAND and asking them WHY they have so many cars....Seems like LE has questions too!

I just heard on HLN the mom is at the police station working with a sketch artist.

Hi Beleive, I also thought it amazing the ages were so specific. I wonder how they could tell that?

ETA: Maybe the older kids in the family looked them over pretty good. One is 16, right? He might have more of a feel for their ages.

morning Kat! I actually, after finding out the front door was open, don't find it hard to believe that this *could* be a crime of opportunity. It almost sounds like these two were fleeing something if they were looking for car keys and took only a cell phone and cash. As for why they would take this baby... I cannot even begin to think why... It is all strange no doubt.

(link talking about the front door being open is on page four I think... )

Hi Nursie, It even makes me wonder if they had a car! But if they did, why take one belonging to a family they had just robbed and stole the baby, as they would know it would pinpoint LE in their direction, right?

Thanks Kat for that link as it is chock full of info! For one thing I learned the robbers were in the home for about 20 min. That is a long time I think considering they were weilding guns. And I think with that amount of time it gave the 14 yr old a good look-see at these 2 hoods. Turns out the 16 yr old was gone. And there is also another older brother. Hmmmmm

And so we are assuming there was a 3rd guy, a lookout, with another talkie phone?

The SB LE spokesman said last night they are keeping all info close to the vest. Even tho I want to know everything, I am glad they have taken this approach.

I'm just guessing here but perhaps or should I say probably... the older boys know the guys...not by name...but perhaps by street (gang) name.

Excellent find Dolly!

About the father having so many cars, what is your thought on that? Maybe he fixes and sells them to earn extra money with all those mouths to feed.

I can't figure why the police would find this suspicious. Of course I just woke up :)

The plot thickens, and I think we might find this crime falls right into the category of typical gang activity.

I wish we knew more about how they operate and why they do or don't do certain things. Like the average white guy would have taken that flat screen TV, right? Why did they leave it?

I think these guys needed transpo. If they had a car maybe it wasn't in good shape for a getaway. I think the threat of taking him to Mexico was just a taunt to insure they wouldn't call the cops.

One more thing, the flat screen TV bugs me. I can't even afford one. For this family I think this would be a real luxury, and so maybe the father was earning extra money that paid pretty well, and that is why LE suspicious about all the cars. Lordie, I have no idea!

I can! Here there was a group bringing illegals across the border, setting them up with housing, and with fake auto insurance and old beater cars...for a very, very hefty price! Turns out the top guy was once a Mexican Federale and his wife was instrumental in helping him get the cars/insurance into the names of the illegals. (They were caught on the insurance scam.) So I am guessing this could be why LE would be suspicious of someone with a lot of cars. ;)

I believe we will find somewhere in the family there will be associates of a not so desirable crowd of people in Mexico or local. (They may not be trafficking drugs...but people instead. There is good money in that biz, too!)

It is a horrible case. :( Bless Briant's little heart. I pray he comes home safe and sound very soon.

Hey scandi-I like the girl theory. RE Amber alert I am not 100% but I believe there has to be at least a vehicle description to get one out right away?? I mean how useful is it to say please look for two hispanic males with a toddler stashed somewhere in their unknown vehicle???? JMO.

The guidelines suggest it, but it is not a requirement to have a vehicle listed to send out an AA. Here, the AA is put out on a case by case basis. If they cannot get a description of the car, they put the child's description and the perp's up in order to get it out to the public if they are certain the child is in immediate danger especially if they know the child has been abducted. (This is up to the local LE agency to decide when or if to put out an alert.) While people may not have a vehicle to search for...they can be aware of the descriptions at gas stations, rest stops, or even sitting in the car next to them at traffic lights.

Marc K. is exactly right about them wasting so much time in case after case because LE agencies do not understand that guidelines are not RULES to live by...but should be used on a case by case basis. They are suggested for what is a premium not what should be the minimum of information to go out when a child goes missing. I have been kvetching about this since the AA began! They need to revise the "guidelines" so that agencies across the country understand them and use them appropriately.

OMG you crack me up...(flat screen TV...average white guy:floorlaugh:) I think this totally revolves around the 16 y/o brother Jose. I'll be shocked if it doesn't. How convenient that he wasn't at home when the whole thing went down.

Hi Believe, I'm still thinking that one over. LOL In the old country of Norway, my dad had long blond ringlets till he was about 7 yrs old. I think the long hair might be traditional in native Mexican peoples. And the quote the mother gave, SS to 'we will take him to Mexico and kill him', if acurate says allot IMO. Possible tho. xox

Hi Bogeygal, I bet this presser is to put out the sketches of the 2 perps. That alone will bring in lots of calls and I hope leads to ID'ing them real soon.

Hi SS, ITA, and like Marc Klaas said, the AA was designed for localities: a local kidnapping investigated by the local LE, using the local media and local highways for alert sinage. That is how the plan was envisioned to be successful, and we have seen it work so many times just because of this.

I think of little Samantha Runion and how everything was done locally to find her quick like. God Bless those Orange county men in blue {WHOOPS! And women ;} and how they worked with other agencies side by side as the investigation progressed. And then of course the national media picked it up right away and the whole country became spellbound by the Chief Corona. A classic case of how the AA should work, even tho they did have a suspect car plate to put out there. xox

Off to work, see ya tonight!
