Found Deceased CA- Jason Cantrall, 46, Siskiyou County, 30 September 2018 *At Risk*

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said 46-year-old Jason Cantrall was last known to be in the Beaver Creek area of Klamath River, California. He was last seen at 7:00 p.m. on September 30.

There is an active search for Cantrall, who is an insulin-dependent diabetic.

Cantrall was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a black hat. He was driving a silver 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with California plate 38356H2.

Update (10-02-18 5:00 p.m.) – Tuesday afternoon, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office provided the following update: “The pickup truck has been located along Forest Road 40N44 in the area south of Wards Fork Gap. The truck was unoccupied, and our search continues for Mr. Cantrall."

A little more detail. He was hunting with his girlfriend and drove the truck up a hill to flush out a buck for her to shoot. She heard two gunshots and when the truck came back down, it kept going. She ended up spending the night in the woods, but used her last bullet to get the attention of a passing motorist.

“He would never leave me out there,” LiPuma said of Cantrall. She also described him as “a super outdoorsman” who “knows how to take care of himself.” Though Cantrall is insulin-dependent, his girlfriend said his main focus on Sunday was getting a buck. She explained that he had insulin and food with him in the truck, as the two planned to camp in the truck overnight. They had only packed supplies for one night though, as their trip was not supposed to last any longer than that. LiPuma was confident that Cantrall would be located sometime Tuesday.

New information: at-risk missing person

While a major effort has been initiated by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office's Search and Rescue team, so far there is no sign of the missing man in the vicinity of his abandoned truck, according to authorities.

The SAR underway consists of team members from Siskiyou County in California, as well as search personnel from Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath counties in Oregon. Additionally, 15 to 20 family and friends of Cantrall have joined the search. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has provided a fixed-wing airplane to assist. The California Army National Guard has also deployed a helicopter to aid the search.

"We are very concerned about Jason's whereabouts, and we are very concerned about his welfare, based on the duration of his absence and the fact that he has a medical condition has provided an elevated sense of urgency to all search participants," the SCSO said. I don’t think it’s been reported. I wonder if he was struggling with his blood sugar as he drove by. I watched a brittle diabetic friend go from making perfect sense to talking nonsense in the blink of an eye. Thankfully, orange juice was nearby and saved the day. But he may have not been able to think clearly.

Yes, I had the same thought. So I suppose there is a remote possibility that he was shot and the shooter drove the truck and hid it. If Jason wasn’t left up on the hill, he would have been in the truck which would show signs of a crime, even if his body is missing. If so, that hasn’t been said.

IMO The simplest explanation is that he was driving and had some kind of medical emergency. But there is certainly a possibility of a crime.

Jason was at my home fixing my cable service a few years ago. The guy was as friendly and professional as anyone that I've ever dealt with, and went above and beyond his job duties to fix my problem. He was so good at his job that I still remembered his face when it was shown on the news a few days ago. Thoughts and prayers to him and all of those who care about him. I can't even imagine..................

MOO: Not with hunters I know, but they’ve been hunting in fields with patchy trees where stray shots are considered a lethal danger. Under normal circumstances, I’d suspect that the bucks ran in an unanticipated direction and that he fired a couple of shots trying to land one. But it’s hard for me to reconcile that with the truck then driving back down the hill and away from the location, since it sounds as though everything happened in close succession.

The fact that she doesn’t say whether she could tell whether he was driving is obvious; I wonder if LE asked her to keep what she saw (or didn’t see) under wraps for now.

A few nagging questions: were the deer actually flushed her way? Did she take any shots? The next day she says she used her last bullet to alert a passerby (whom she happened to know). Did she only have one bullet when he went to flush the deer? That seems odd. JMO.

No, it certainly doesn’t sound like a route someone with a medical issue could navigate! I had no idea it was that far.

His girlfriend is sure he wouldn’t just drive off and leave her there. Of course, anything is possible, but it doesn’t seem likely.

So that leaves abduction, a mental health issue, girlfriend lying (unlikely since truck was found so far away, unless there was help). After Meighan Cordie’s mother told so many lies, I’m getting jaded. But we can’t go there at this point. Any other theories?

My brother in-law had a diabetic emergency while driving once. He was able to maneuver through traffic and even evade police during this. Once, he pulled over, of course they thought he was intoxicated. But, he wasn't. He didn't remember a thing afterwards.
