CA - Jenny Carrigan & Steven Furtado, both 18, murdered, Chester, 11 May 2008

This lady has lost all hope and joy from her life.

her son died as a direct result of his distracted urgency to get to his mother to give her comfort in what was supposed to be the most distressing thing to happen in her life on the discovery of her daughter's body along with her daughter's boyfriend.

i think the ex-boxfriend should be charged with a third homicide.

i hope she has others to give her as much support as possible through what are going to be the darkest of times.

ITA, I think he should be charged with third homicide also. Although I'm not sure if that's ever been done before, does anyone know if it has?

I don't think so but his family could maybe file a wrongful death lawsuit against Carillo.

Floh,

I hope she has a good support system too. I cannot imagine the pain she is feeling.

My prayers and hearfelt sympathy to both of their families and friends. Both towns are suffering from the loss of these two wonderful teenagers who had their whole lives ahead of them.

Yes. one must not forget Steven's mother. tragic all round. :(

there has been a case recently where the mother with a big heart and strong faith whose son was stabbed to death said she felt sadness for the parents of the murderer:

Of her son's murderer's parents, Mrs Mizen said: "What can you really say to them?

"You can imagine, that's their child, they held that boy in their own arms as a baby. They must be in pain.

"It's so painful that their child has been so cruel and so wicked."

I don't ever want to imagine how it would feel to be on either side of that equation. My heart would be shattered no matter what, but if it were my child who took another's life...it would absolutely kill me. :(

An unthinkable tragedy – her daughter murdered on prom night and her son killed in a car crash rushing home after hearing the news. Marianne McClary has an exclusive interview with the local mother grieving the loss of her only children.

In one instance, Jodie Carrigan's life was shattered. On Sunday morning it began when she stepped into her daughter's bedroom and entered a crime scene.

So, I am new here. I live in this tiny wonderful town. we are a community.
Jodie has a wonderful support group around her.
This has saddened our whole community. But, Reyes was not a bad kid, in the usual sense of the word.
My heart aches for his family as well, as he will be in a living hell.
The kids were so close. The kids in town still feel like its a bad dream, or movie.
I am sure no one will forget for generations to follow. these kids touched so many lives.
Still only word on autopsy is multiple stab wounds to Jenny and Steven.
I feel 2 murders to punish Reyes for should be enough to keep him away forever, as sad as it is, he needs to be accountable for his crime. I dont feel that charging him in Billys death is necessary, let alone the cost to our county.
no one will ever know exactly how this all unfolded as it did except the 3 in that room.
its just so sad, a cloud still looms over town.

Thanks for sharing your perspective with us. It's nice to hear from someone local. This is one of the most tragic stories I've ever heard, and as a mother, I just cannot fathom the grief that Jodie is living with. I'm glad to hear that she has such a wonderful support group around her. Like you, my heart also breaks for Reyes' family. I'm sure they are dealing with a great deal also.

My heart goes out to all involved, but especially to Jodie. May she someday find peace.

I'm currently sitting in Plumas County and this is the topic of conversation everywhere I go. I do not know these folks, but the whole county is greiving for these families.
