SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — Jered Stefansky of Redding has been missing since he drove a rental car to a business transaction in Carson City, Nevada on June 19.

On Friday, a family member spoke with KRCR about their missing loved one, and a recent murder investigation they believe could be tied to Stefansky's disappearance.

A family member says Stefansky was supposed to drive to Carson City for a marijuana transaction that had a price tag of $400,000.

The family member who chooses to remain anonymous for their safety says the meeting was originally set up by William Adrian Larsen of Burbank, CA.

They told KRCR Stefansky and Larsen had worked together in the past.

A family member says police told them on Stefansky's way to the meeting in Carson City, his phone was turned off at 2 p.m. that day. A fact that confuses his family.

"They could tell that his phone was turned off at 2 o'clock and Jered supposedly didn't arrive at the meeting place until 3:30 p.m. Jered would never turn his phone off for an hour and a half," said a family member.

Stefansky's family member says they spoke to Larsen about the meeting in Carson City shortly after Stefansky went missing and Larsen told them he was on vacation and did not attend the meeting with Stefansky.

On Thursday, the Mono County Sheriff's Office announced that on November 9, just before 6:30 a.m., a CAL TRANS snowplow driver observed two bodies on the shoulder of Highway 395, approximately 10 miles north of Bridgeport.

They would identify one of the bodies as William Adrian Larsen,35.

Family members of Stefansky's say this new information now has them worried about their own safety.

"Well I thought maybe it was some kind of message or something, I don't know because they were just left out to be found," they said.

The Mono County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said in a press release, it was determined that the man and woman had been murdered, and MCSO had taken the lead on the homicide investigation.

Jered Stefansky has been missing since June 19 when he made a trip from Redding to Mound House to allegedly pick up the money he would use to return to Redding where he would use it to buy marijuana.

Stefansky’s mother, Sheila Sharpe, confirmed to The Record-Courier on Thursday that Larsen and her son were involved in the transaction.

She was interviewed by video blogger Jason Hebert on Sept. 27.

Sharpe described an elaborate marijuana transportation network that started with a person in Pennsylvania sending cash to Larsen in Mound House where Stefansky would pick it up. Stefansky would then travel back to Redding with the cash to purchase the marijuana from his soures.

She said Larsen would then travel to Redding to pick up the marijuana and then mail it back to Pennsylvania.

Details of Disappearance
Stefansky was last seen on June 19, 2020 in Redding, California. He left Redding that day to travel to Carson City, Nevada, a four-hour drive away, for a business transaction involving $400,000 worth of marijuana.

The plan was that a person in Pennsylvania would send cash to William Adrian Larsen in Nevada, and Stefansky would pick it up and take it back to California, then use the money to buy marijuana from his sources. Larsen would then travel to Redding, pick up the marijuana and mail it to Pennsylvania. Larsen and Stefansky had worked together in the past.

Stefansky was driving a rented blue 2019 Nissan Versa with the Washington license plate number BNR0354 on the day of his disappearance; a photo of a similar vehicle is posted with this case summary. He is believed to have arrived in Carson City, but he didn't show up for his 3:30 p.m. business meeting and has never been heard from again. His cellular phone has been turned off since 2:00 p.m. that day, about an hour and a half before the meeting.

In November 2020, Larsen's body that of his wife were found together on the shoulder of Highway 395 ten miles north of Bridgeport, California, an area neither of them had any connection to. They had been murdered.

Three suspects, all of them reportedly former business associates of Larsen's, were arrested and charged in the homicides in March 2021; they are awaiting trial.

It's unclear whether the Larsens' murders are related to Stefansky's earlier disappearance, but his family believes he may have met with foul play. His case remains unsolved.

exactly. Whatever was/is going on, that type of behavior is likely to run people in trouble. Now it seems that his fate is more or less a forgone conclusion, it's just a matter of finding him for his family

Agree with this...where did Jered rent the car from? And when was it supposed to be back? There should be some kind of GPS on it (I've seen this if the car rental company prohibits driving into certain states).

Not the best site (it sells a service), but it seems that the car rental companies that do have restrictions on driving out of state are usually by a regional block; i.e. a car rented in CA can be driven to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and a couple of other states.

Also I'm wondering if the car rental company filed a police report about the car. That would at least show up on police databases if someone were to find it and report it (or try to sell it or something).

The drive from Redding, CA to Carson City, NV is quite a lengthy one, about 220 miles or so.

The phone being off at 2:00 p.m. is a definite red flag/bad sign.
