A 24-year-old woman due to stand trial next month on charges that she starved her 4-day-old baby to death is due back in Shasta County Superior Court today for a status conference.

I can't even begin to understand cases like this. CA has safe heaven law.
All this woman had to do is to take a baby to an approved safe heaven location. She could remain anonymous and no one in her circle would even know she had the baby.
