They have hired experts. Top notch. I think you will be surprised.

Do you know if he was granted the funds for unlimited
expenses relating to top notch experts? I have always thought that indigent defendants had some kind of budget from which to mount a defense. Chase Merritt appears to have a defense team that only a rich man could afford. imo...of course.

Oh I agree, and things morphed over time, and this is where the confirmation bias comes in. Just as an example: Mike recalls a call with Joey about a banking issue and he was going to the bank, so it MUST have been the cheque Chase cashed, yet the last time he talked to him was Feb 1st, the day before the first cashed cheque. Thank goodness for early police reports, they will be and probably are the most reliable IMO

Maybe Joey took notice to the 79 missing checks, thus causing concern.

Well, Summer and Joey were living with the mom just before they moved into their new home. Summer was on the phone with her sister the morning of the 4th. And Joey spoke to his dad that same morning. Seems like they'd have some insight, just given those facts.
Thanks, but i'm not sure what that proves exactly?

I recall a comment by McGee early on about more funds for experts because they put the death penalty on the table. I don't think it was unlimited, but it provided WAY MORE to the defense because of it. I remember thinking they probably did Merritt a favour by asking for the death penalty. JMO

hmmm I followed that case, it wasn't televised, was it? Has audio of that been released? I really can't recall that. I seem to recall Beth Karas running back and forth for updates  maybe I'm not recalling it correctly?

I'm not sure, but at the time that was the biggest case to ever hit the crime message boards.

I remember that a group of us posters over on CourtTV iirc pooled our money together, and bought the daily trial transcripts, and they were uploaded on another site belonging to the one who went, and paid for them for all of us, and we went there daily to the other pro board set up to read them everyday..

Just like many of us sent flowers so they could be placed in the fishing boat MG had put outside of his office. We filled it up with beautiful flowers instead of the dummy for pregnant Laci... Geragos had in it.

Imo

There is a 987.9 request for monies to hire experts on DP cases. I don't believe it is unlimited. A panel of judges has to approve the funds. And whether there is a ceiling on these, I don't know. It isn't public record.

Not sure how to do this.

Judge is discussing Gov. Gavin Newsom moratorium on death penalty. He will tell jurors it will not impact on this portion of the trial. He says if Merritt is found guilty in the capital murder case it may come into play. They will address that when it comes.

If you are facing DP there is a 987.9 motion; if you are facing LWOP there is a similar motion, it is 987.2. I do believe there is more funding if you are facing DP.

After my Dad retired he would occasionally work delivering flowers for the most exclusive flower shop in the South Bay. He actually delivered flowers to that courtroom, and told me that it was a complete circus and he couldn't wait to get the heck out of there.
