That is a lot to do on the 8th then, taking the Trooper to the border in the am and accessing QuickBooks in the pm - not from the home computer.

IIRC it was probably left there the night before

I don't think so, it was towed around 11 pm on the night of the 8th, and I believe the implication is he drove it there that morning when his phone was off.

No worries. Just a matter of time for the evidence to be presented.

KAYE: Could one person killed a family of four, bury the bodies under miles North in the Mojave Desert, dropped the car 250 miles south of the Mexico border? Could one person do all that and then return home to make it look like he was home that night to receive a phone call from Joseph McStay?

RAMOS: Yes.

KAYE: It's possible.

RAMOS: And we have the evidence to prove that. Yes.

"I was not his best friend, but he was mine and I believe he opened up to me about things he would not tell anyone else," Merritt is quoted by the paper as saying.

Reading back though old articles I had forgotten this gem. It always stood out as a strange thing to say and still does.

I think the toys are one aspect the San Diego police could have followed up if they were trying to piece together a timeline for their last day, so I hope they did and they have the seller as a witness in the case, or at least a police statement made at the time.

IIRC from the CNN Documentary: Detective DuGal stated that they had a receipt from a Ross store, but they were unable to locate which store the toys came from, due to Ross' record keeping/receipt process.

Is anyone good at maps? I would like to see the timeline as we know it and a map of CM and JM’s phone pings as relating to the alleged CFA meeting, the course of that day and the following days; with particular interest in the following 10 days or so, possibly even the few days before. It might be beneficial if someone could include the McStay home, CM’s residence, CFA,
CM’s sister’s home, the Trooper drop off point, as well as the address googled on the McStay computer and the storage unit. Any suggestions on other plots would be helpful. We used to have Bondjamesbond to manage these things and I wish he was still here. Anyone willing to look at addresses and submit too?
This is not my forte and I would screw it up!
It we could plot the pings with the dates and times I think it might be beneficial to all of us! TIA

So why wasn't the Trooper in the driveway - if that was a different truck that left? There's only room for the Dodge and one other vehicle next to it on the driveway.

I believe it was CM's "work" truck that was captured by Ms Mitchelly (Neighbor). The Pros stated soemthing about an exhaust pipe on the truck that the Isuzu did NOT have.

I've pretty much totally discounted that video, first of all we don't know if the time stamp is correct and it's far from certain the make and model of vehicle captured in the video.

I believe we will hear from "video experts" they believe it was CM's "work" truck that pulled awat from the MS's home that evening.

I wonder if the state has offered immunity to Jarvis? Her testifying against CM would lock up the case for them.

I do KNOW she was interviewed several times by SBSO from CM's Press Conf on his arrest date. Inv Fisher stated they interviewed her, as well as CM SEVERAL times.

I ask myself why I have become so interested in this case. I have to say that it was the volunteer missing BS what caught my attention eight years ago. I am an avid surfing fan and it just broke my heart looking at those two little boys, coming from So Cal, so tragic. Not until recently I believed that this could not have been done by one person. During the recent holiday my own neighborhood was rattled by a triple homicide. The grown son, 43 y/o murdered his mother, sister and family friend with a kitchen knife and beating in their home. He didn't have time to plan disposing of their bodies and was interrupted by the police and shot 27 times and died. If only the McStay family had a real friend looking out for them. So far I am not impressed with the prosecution's evidence. No blood in the house and no DNA found in the graveside of the defendant. Cell tower and Quickbook, is so far, all the physical evidence. They have the bodies. My understanding of the DNA in the trooper was more than likely secondary exposure from handshake contamination. Let me know if I am wrong about this.

SDSO handled this as a "missing persons" case. During their investigation there did NOT appear to be any "foul play" suspected, due to the cleanliness/lack of blood spatter noted by Inv Dugal. The scene was NOT processed as a homicide scene by SDSO, just a missing persons case. However, when their bodies were found, San Bernardino Sheriff KNEW it was a homicide case and in FACT later served 60 warrants, including several on their home, years later. According to Inv Fisher (Lead Inv on this case for SBSO) stated he "believed" they collected enough "evidence from their home" to place it as the actual crime scene and also places CM there. This info is from the Press Conference SBSO held the DAY CM was arrested. We have YET to hear this evidence and still are on "finding the bodies" portion of the trial, IMO.

At the 58:30 mark, the prosecutor talks a about a “107 minute call to Quickbooks on 2/9/10 from someone claiming to be Joseph McStay, yet the call was made from the defendent’s cell phone.”
The prosecutor goes on with details about the call, but my mind is still blown. We’ve all been waiting for years to see the evidence against CM. It’s bone-chilling...and I find myself seeing CM as the monster that he truly is. He didn’t have the kill those sweet little boys. I know he didn’t have to kill anyone, but my mind always goes back to those little boys. It’s all senseless.

If you watch CM at the 58:00 ish mark, he will FREEZE when he notices the camera is on him. He then "relaxes" when the camera starts to pan away from him, IMO.

There is so much more to the pings than what we have available, at this point, I would just wait for the testimony. JMO

I have been hoping @otto was following the case and would grace us with his mad map skills, we'll need visuals, esp. once we get to the cell phone/tower data.

I just watched the neighbour's testimony earlier today, I hadn't had a chance to see it yet. The defense had a defense to that video lol That it didn't match his truck either, the height of the lights and I think the parking lights didn't match up or something like that. Another interesting aspect of this case that I can't wait to hear testimony on.

I finally understand what the video should have been showing though... Ms. Mitchelly said in her testimony that the McStay's typically backed into the driveway with the Trooper. I could never figure out how that video was showing someone coming out of their driveway, but it's someone coming out that had backed into it. Not saying that CM didn't back into it himself, but I 'get it' now lol No clue who's vehicle it was. I still have this feeling that they met up somewhere else, or it just happened later than we think... I do think Joey got home that day. In the testimony, Ms. M also said that she turned on the porch light because she heard something... could that something have been car doors closing as they were getting into the Trooper?

What makes you think they served several search warrants on the home? I know of one from the search warrant file... maybe I need to look through them better lol

I remember seeing this case on the local news early, when the family was simply reported missing. Their car had been recently found at the border that time and one "theory" presented by the news was the MS family was somehow connected to a Mexican Drug Cartel. Is that information related to the supposed "Border Crossing Video?," or is there information pointing to a person(s) that ACTUALLY told SDSO Inv's this information? Or, was this a "theory" by SDSO from the get-go?

I'm wondering WHO came up with that theory? Thanks.

The headlights, whomever vehicle that is was definitely pulling out into the street. There is NO doubt about that, it is plainly clear on the video. The video where it is dark and the vehicle lights come toward the camera and then turn away from Mitchelly's home. Away from the cul-de-sac.

Inv Fisher stated that.

IIRC, the Pros, in OS, stated they will have "further" testimony about the vehicle from one of their experts.

LE seems convinced all of the McStays were killed with the same sledge hammer which would seem to point to them all being killed at the same time and the same location (unless anyone wants to argue for CM carrying around a bloody sledge hammer from one place to another).

I wonder if the coroner could determine if all the wounds were inflicted by the same object. I feel doubtful but that testimony will bear watching (even if difficult).
