I'm open to all possibilities in this case. LOL

No record of which call? the calls the day before? There was record of it, but not that Baker could see for whatever reason. The defense even named the rep and asked a question if he knew why the State wasn't calling him instead. Which of course got objected/sustained LOL

If the defense has the other reps name then it's likely they have interviewed them. I wonder if we will see them testify?

That was obviously going to be sustained. This dude has no clue why the state called him instead of the other one.

You wouldn't. But Joey may have.

Which is most likely?

Is it more likely that Chase, a known thief and liar, who has done time for fraud and theft and burglary, STOLE that money from his missing boss?

Or is it more likely that Joey, suddenly agreed to give his employee total access to his banking accounts and told him to go on ahead and write himself some checks?

I think the jury is going to go with the first option.

LMAO--I have no idea. I must have accidentally hit some key that made it do that. When I hit edit and tried to fix it, it still came out that way.:rolleyes:

I thought it was funny that it came up in the middle of a discussion that was flying by... I thought you were being a smarty pants until I hit the end and saw the ETA: don't know why it's got the strikethrough :D:D:D

right LOL

If we see him, I think it will be on the defense witness list. I will go back and see if can find the question.

Again, 250 Billion industry. Most people who gamble don't kill anyone. Ever. The gambling in and of itself means nothing. And where is the proof Chase had a gambling debt?

I don't agree that the gambling means nothing. I think that many people know of and have experienced issues with family or friends with gambling problems. It is often devastating. It is as addicting as heroin or alcohol or nicotine.

If Chase did have a gambling problem, I think we will eventually see some proof of that.

You've worked with Quickbooks, so you know there are a few explanations for what appears to be "backdating" of a check, that isn't actually that.

Right, but that doesn't answer the question about the dates. You said he may have written those checks because his boss had vanished. '

How would Chase know they had vanished on the 4th? And on the 5th? He had just seen him at lunchtime.

In the work I've done, it's actually not unprecedented. As I mentioned before, I had a boss who had a stamp made of his signature. When I would print checks and he wasn't there, I just stamped his signature. In theory I could have gone to town printing checks and stamping his signature, but in a small company there tends to be more trust.

You may believe Chase to be sketchy, but Joey may not have felt that way at all.

Ok, but you probably don't have a criminal history which includes fraud and burglary. If so, your boss probably wouldn't have been so trusting with the bank account. JMO

right LOL

Found it... 1:31:55 of the video. And for an added bonus... go to 55:40 and it has more info about the call made the day before to the other rep, interesting that the State objects... it's over ruled.

I don't disagree with you katy, but I do think that we don't know how or what Joey felt. That's the problem that I see. We have the benefit of knowing everything that we do, from before and from after. But Joey didn't, or maybe did and still trusted him.

I really can't recall because there has been so much info... but did Joey ever say anything to anyone about not trusting Chase?

Yes, I agree that the drug cartels in Mexico, kill MANY people. In a very brutal way, too. But, I cannot remember EVER reading about anyone, being murdered in the U.S. or specifically CA, by a Mexican drug cartel.

If you lived in CA (or surrounding states) you would be painfully aware of the gang problems in the southern desert area. The desert provides a burial place for many brutal killings. There are many young people who are attracted to the gang life, primarily as an "easy" source of income. There are spin-off and splinter gangs working that area. It offers a fast, relatively safe (from prying eyes) route for drug running. This article specifically targets San Bernadino, but many skeletons and skulls are found along the desert highway. The most dangerous cities in America, ranked Murders, kidnappings, muggings, etc. can be commissioned easily and for ridiculously low $$$.

Maybe because they'd defended so many obviously guilty jerks, they decided they wanted to put the kibosh on them instead.
I tend to think it's because there's better money to be had. I often wonder about defense attorney's, just how many of them believe their client is guilty and just want to represent to make sure they get a fair trial?

OK. He risks being seen in the Trooper at Metro, drives the Trooper to the border and arrives at 10:30? Then he, catches a cab? Gets home. That could be true. It's a nice theory. Where is the proof that this occurred?
He could've left the keys in the Trooper and parked it somewhere (or even WITHOUT keys) and it might've been stolen. There have been two car thefts, in my neighborhood, last week. Cars are stolen in So. CA , constantly.

I do have a question for the group: is anyone here actually familiar with the Quickbooks program? Have you ever used it? I g

It's only damning if Joey didn't know about it or approve. If Joey was fine with this. If he asked Chase to take this on, then there is no fraud at all.

Why would we think that Joey would be fine with Chase writing checks to himself, then deleting them ?

Is there any evidence at all that says Joey wanted Chase to do so?

Isn't it a bit of a coincidence that Joey was doing so, right at the same time the family vanished?

I'm a bit confused, I thought that Chase already admitted to writing the checks and to calling QB to cancel the account, his explanation is that Joey asked him to do these things? Actually I think he said that Joey wanted to cancel and delete the old QB accounts and create new ones? If I have that wrong please correct me.

Also FWIW, Dan stated in the impromptu CBS 8 interview on 12/9/14 that Joey gave his "vendors" (and he specified Chase) his credit card numbers so that they could charge supplies etc. Not that I believe a word Danimal says but this whole case is he said vs he said vs he said so I'm just throwing this in there with the rest of it lol.

But giving them credit card numbers to purchase supplies is a far cry from giving them the passwords to his personal and business bank account.

Those credit cards can buy packing supplies and tubing etc. But it is not possible to pay oneself 3000 dollars to put in one's personal account. There is a big difference between the two.

RBBM. Was he deleting the transactions to hide them from Joey, or was he hiding them from Dan at Joey's request? I know it's reaching but the defense might claim this so it's something to think about.

If those were valid payments to Chase for welding and design, why would anyone need to hide that from Dan?

Did Joey delete any of the checks he paid out to Chase previously?

Maybe it's just me---but I am not giving anyone my banking passwords but my husband and grown kids.

I don't think many people give out that private financial info to other people. Employees included.

There is no reason that I can think of, that Joey would tell Chase to write himself some checks, backdate a few, and delete them all. That is such a stretch.

And that the' backdate ' just happened to be on the 4th, the last day that Joey was known to be alive. Quite a coincidence.
