Then my assumption is that this guy specifically was not hired until after OS's. I bet the defense asks about that tomorrow.

But I also assume the prosecution will have more than just this one then as well. He was solely looking at Chase's. They should also have one that looked at Joseph's, no?

fyi ... the accountant discussed in this motion, is also the one that testified today.
It's best if you watch the video. Ms Rodriguez explains when they hired him and it was before trial.

As regards your fyi - we are discussing the one who testified today.

I do not see Joey meeting Chase Merritt for an "intervention".

I think the "flurry of phone calls between Joey and Chase Merritt" were due to Joey finding out that Chase had been stealing from him.

I think that Joey was done with him and he wanted keys back from Chase and to confront him face to face with what he had learned from his bank. Probably to also tell him that he wanted the stolen monies repaid.

Most likely Joey threatened Chase Merritt that he was ready to call the police.

Hypothetically speaking, what if the CFA meeting was an intervention of sorts? Might explain the flurry of calls between CM and CJ that day? Might further explain why JM continued to call CM although his internet activity showed continued use at a time where most of us wonder if they were even together let alone that a meeting occurred? Does anyone have quick access to the checks written to CJ from the Paypal account?
We know JM covered CJ and the kids while CM was in jail. Perhaps an intervention type meeting was when the tide turned and there was no turning back for CM from that point? Might this have been the catalyst that set wheels in motion?
Edited to further add that the checks from JM to CM became significantly lower during the few months leading up to the murders. What if JM and CJ had an agreement that no monies would be forthcoming given the circumstances and CM blaming his financial needs on wife and kids. I can envision JM agreeing to help
CJ with financial support needs while insisting CM seek help for gambling addiction and issues...

Chase Merritt is a proven smooth operating con man.
IF he took a lie detector test and cleared it, there has been no testimony that he did.

The ONLY person stating that he passed a lie detector test, is Chase Merritt.

Seeing as he is a proven liar, I do not believe anything that comes or came out of his mouth.

Does everyone believe that CM took a polygraph test back in the day? Is this going to be presented as evidence? How does one get the list of evidence? Is it possible to get the list ahead of the date it is presented? I know I have little knowledge of California law and courtroom proceedings.

It’s possible a new advanced test was available in 2003 that wasn’t available in 1999. Since it says
“A more sophisticated analysis”

MOO

That is very true. But it is interesting.

I have frequently been the only female in a male dominated profession. Fortunately, we all treated each other as equals. Whether in the office or out in the field the most common way each of us greeted the other was with a light pat on the shoulder. I’m not sure what the dna transfer pattern would be in that case. I’m on the West coast.

I think one of the reasons the business relationship between Joey and Chase, as it is presented by the defense, seems perfectly reasonable to me, is that I was in an industry for decades where these types of less than conventional methods of doing business were the norm. In the industry I was in we hugged and shook hands all the time. It was a business that involved lots of small businesses, sometimes with a staff of only a few people. We became close with each other. There were lots of bro-hugs, hi-fives etc.

And again, the transfer of DNA from Chase to Joey might also have occurred by way of an object being handed over, rather than by way of direct touch.

Could this have been when Chase said his shop was broken into and tools stolen? In the Tim Miller video Mikey states he called Joey to meet him and give him money to replace his stolen tools.

What are the chances that Chase was telling the truth. Makes me wonder if he pawned or sold them himself....o_O

Evidence is not public. And it won't be until all appeals are exhausted. If Chase is acquitted, it won't be released to the public until the actual killers are convicted-and again, not until all appeals are exhausted.

There are some things you can get by way of an FOIA type request, but for the most part, as long as the case is open, this is not something we are privy to. Autopsies in California are never public.

I watched it live... and I have watched a bit again, I stopped when the judge said "you can ask him when he was retained and I'm going to guess he is going to say after Jan 7, 2019" If you have a time stamp to when Rodriguez says they retained him, please share. The whole point of this motion was because it was discovery AFTER the trial started.

Polygraphs cannot be used as evidence in court. Despite their popularity, they aren't sufficiently reliable.

How has Chase been proven a liar?

He said he wasn't going to have rent money if Joey wasn't there. Evidently he figured out a way around that, and was able to get money, which he later spent at the casino's.

There is a trial because Merritt plead not guilty. Of course he did. The con man bought time - lots of it.

If CM is innocent, and the murders were committed by someone else, to quote JMarsh: Where's the evidence?

It had better make a grand entrance soon. Otherwise - Charles Merritt is going down.

We will never know all the evidence there was or, as yet unknown, evidence there still potentially is on this case. Not trying to be snarky here, but where's the evidence that I didn't commit this crime? Or that you didn't?

The issue at stake in this trial isn't really who beside Merritt could have committed this crime, it is whether there is evidence to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Merritt is the killer.

It is really that simple.

Well you just proved he wasn't lying. As you say, one minute he was afraid he wouldn't be able to pay rent, then he found money. That's not lying, That's being resourceful.

He is a thief and a con man. That necessitates being a liar. You cannot be an honest person and be arrested for the crimes that he has been arrested for.

He also told investigators that Joey gave him those checks, including the paul mitchell one, at lunch on the 4th. But we now know he created them himself on the 5th. ==<<<LIE

I remember the discussion. I actually will use both but mostly left. Not sure it matters. It's not like one isn't going to leave DNA and the other will.

I think the point is that—if Chase’s DNA is transfer DNA from shaking Joseph’s hand, it’ll only be on Joseph’s RIGHT hand. So....if he opened the door with his LEFT hand, it explains why none of Chase’s DNA on the handle

Resourceful, eh? He didn't find the money, he stole it from the murdered victims.

What is the proof Chase stole money or that he murdered anyone?

It bothers me that Don Jone's tests weren't completely blind.

I agree. At this point I honestly have no idea how he's been locked up for so long.. I haven't seen/heard anything that hasn't been posted on here years ago.. kind of scary to think LE could hold someone on a murder charge for using a strange company's account that's associated with a strange missing family with even stranger family members after a bunch of other strange people connected to this strange company also withdrew from it, and having lunch with your friend.. and potentially touching his steering wheel. I mean there is more evidence presented that the mother was guilty after the fact of cleaning up a quadruple murder.. nothing on Chase as far as actually slaying the family and transporting them.
