Perhaps she heard the helicopters and hid out of panic.
It was reported that SM had been texting with the boyfriend throughout the night. We know approximately when SM picked up Karlie. Its been reported that the boyfriend came over the next morning. The BM came the morning. Did SM call boyfriend at some point to inquire about what Karlie ingested & if so what time. I'm trying to narrow down the time SM & Zac had time to dispose of her if something happen at home.
Here is detailed information about what SM admittedly lied about that:Another thing. Posters have referred to all the lies she told. Outside of being wrong about the cloths she was wearing & inconsistencies about where she slept are their others? If these are the only ones, I don't see any relevance.
The boyfriend could see it in one place & SM saw it when it was in another place. Here is detailed information about what SM admittedly lied about that:
The next morning, around 5:45 a.m., Melissa said she went through her usual routine of opening the kids’ doors and saying good morning to them. She told Dateline she saw Karlie in her bed at that time. Melissa said she then went back to sleep for a little bit. But when she woke up a little bit later and opened Karlie’s door again, Karlie was nowhere to be found.
“I went back into our bedroom and I said [to Zachary], ‘Honey, she’s not here.’ And he said, ‘What do you mean she’s not here?’” Melissa said. “I said, ‘She’s gone. She’s not in her room. She’s not outside. She’s not in the backyard. She’s not anywhere.’”
“Melissa, you told NBC, the next morning that at 5:45 a.m., you did your usual routine of opening up the kids’ doors, saying good morning, getting them ready for school -- that sort of thing. Did you – she was still in bed at that time. Did you go back and lay down?” Dr. Phil asked Melissa on the show which aired on March 25, 2019.
“No. That – the Dateline NBC?” Melissa answered. “Yeah, that was a false story. Because I wasn’t – it was a lie about checking in on Karlie. Because it was in the beginning, and I didn’t know what to say and – I shouldn’t have even done the interview.”
Sixteen-year-old Karlie Gusé missing after vanishing from California home
There is also the Nancy Grace podcast where she admits to lying about the clothing Karlie left the house in: Karlie Guse stepmom admits: I gave the wrong description of my daughter's clothes from Crime Stories with Nancy Grace
There are other details as well, such as the location of Karlie’s cell phone. This is a he said/she said so no link to verify. SM says Karlie’s phone was on kitchen counter but BF says he saw it next to Karlie’s bed that morning.
These are the 3 misinformations I have heard of. But why lie about any of these? Strange for sure
If SM had been texting throughout the night, that would limit the time SM would have to dispose of a body.It was reported that SM had been texting with the boyfriend throughout the night.
They both are supposedly saying where the phone was found. SM says kitchen counter. BF says by Karlie’s bed. Who knows? The boyfriend could see it in one place & SM saw it when it was in another place.
The clothing she initial thought Karlie was wrong. I could make the same mistake.
Her reasoning for lying about checking in on Karlie is more concerning but somewhat understandable.
Unless she had her cell with her? And exactly what does “all night” mean. Wonder how many times and how much time in between those texts? The lie about checking in on her is the most concerning IMO.If SM had been texting throughout the night, that would limit the time SM would have to dispose of a body.
LE could track her phone.Unless she had her cell with her? And exactly what does “all night” mean. Wonder how many times and how much time in between those texts? The lie about checking in on her is the most concerning IMO.
Same thing Billie Dunn said about Hailey ...Unless she had her cell with her? And exactly what does “all night” mean. Wonder how many times and how much time in between those texts? The lie about checking in on her is the most concerning IMO.
It would be irresponsible for me to let the conversation drift back into the guilt of her stepmother without mentioning the video in question one more time:
At the risk of being accused of derailing the conversation and of being pushy, THIS VIDEO IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! A possible kidnapping suspect from the same state should be closely inspected by those in this thread. We have to contact Karlie's friends and family on social media to see if they recognize this voice. The girl in the video does not sound African-American. IMO, she sounds like a white girl.
Those who have direct contact with Melissa, please send her the video and make sure she's aware of its existence. It would be tragic for those investigating Karlie's disappearance to never connect this incident to it, or to connect it too late (after security footage has been overwritten).
While agree this is an extremely important incident that needs to be investigated, I highly doubt it’s related to Karlie’s case. JMOIt would be irresponsible for me to let the conversation drift back into the guilt of her stepmother without mentioning the video in question one more time:

Good question, but I feel it's posed with a slight amount of animus, so I'll answer in kind: races have morphological differences. Knowledge of racial differences, be they physical or behavioral, are used in forensics all the time. The girl simply does not sound African.Exactly how does a scream from an African American girl, differ from that of a Caucasian? Post the video on the missing page if you feel it's related to Karlie (which IMO it's not).
Any kidnapping in California is related to Karlie's case. She was most likely kidnapped. What's the group the FBI will most closely investigate? Other kidnappers. While agree this is an extremely important incident that needs to be investigated, I highly doubt it’s related to Karlie’s case. JMO
So let's re-cap all the hypotheses here and the major problems with each of them.
1. She was murdered by someone in her family. Not killed, but murdered. I have seen a few people suggest this: Melissa was sooo angry that she just strangled her to death to avoid having to deal with her and her pot-smoking shenanigans. Needless to say, this is more than a little far-fetched.
2. She overdosed, and her parents covered it up.This appears to be a very common explanation of her disappearance. To avoid endless delineations and arguments, I will simply cite this article, which I believe to be very thorough: No Voice, No Purpose: The Lies and Fall of the Karlie Guse Lynch Mob Though I disagree with some of the emotional pleading ("You can never blame the family members!"), it's well-argued and deserves to be looked at by anyone assured of her parents' guilt. To be clear, I think a lot of the parents' behavior is unusual, but I also think they deserve a great deal of sympathy and compassion. The risks either way, that we ignore possible suspects or that we blame innocent victims, can not be overlooked.
3. She was kidnapped by BM's boyfriendThis is one some of you may not have heard, but I was told by the person who wrote the article above (Damion) that the police were considering this angle. Supposedly, he was driving through the area at the exact time Karlie disappeared. It would certainly explain some of BM's odd behavior. I can't give away any more information.
4. She wandered out into the desert and died. Before learning of the extensive search effort that went into Karlie's case (it really was and still is a cause célèbre), I thought this was the most likely explanation. Now I do not consider it so likely, because even though she was disoriented and seen entering the desert, she could not possibly have gotten very far in her condition. She did not drink any water before leaving, nor did she take any with her. She would have succumbed to the desert heat within a day. How far can a disoriented girl trek into the desert? That's how far and how long it would take authorities to find a body. Consider this explanation bunk.
5. She was kidnapped by an unknown assailant. Most likely. This is the only explanation consistent with everything we know.
It's happened before. But she didn't take her glasses, and she didn't take anything else. She didn't go to any of her friends houses. Is she a desert nomad now? The vast majority of missing persons return before 1 year; only a minority of missing persons return after 2 years. And beyond that point? You can consider the missing person dead. We've all heard stories of people who "went missing" and changed their identities, evading authorities and everyone else. The woman who imitated Brooke Henson being a prime example. However, how common is this? Considering Karlie's circumstances, this should not be given precedence over the kidnapping explanation.
6. She's OK, just hiding
Good questionCan anyone think of a case where the caregiver told so many lies and ended up not being responsible? I can't.
Also, does anyone have a link to the story where SM stated she was in bed with Karlie, looked over saw Karlie with her eyes open then went back to sleep. For some reason, this hit me as being the truth and it freaked me out bad. IYKWIM? I have looked and can't find the link.
i apologize for the messy post and bad grammar. I am on the road and stopped in to catch up on this thread.
