I contacted the Investigator in charge Tony Esquivez with the LPD. He informed me that the case and investigation are ongoing and couldn't provide me with much information. I pulled up arrest records for Angel Sheets and Dennis Murphy. Both committed several low level drug offenses, DUI etc, and Battery. A surprising amount of Angel's cases were dismissed. One Battery case in February 20, 2014 was dismissed by the DA Nancy O'Malley even though at the time she was still considered a POI in her daughter's murder. Another 2007 case in which Sheets was charged for substance related crimes resulted in 3 days in jail and 3 years probation ending in 2010. In May 2006 [4 months after Kayla's Body was found) Sheets was sentenced for receiving stolen property and received court probation up until 2009 [up until he suddenly retired in Sep 2009 (4 months later), Tom Orleff was the acting DA ]. This is also the same time that articles report that she and Dennis became peoples of interest in this case. I'm by no means pointing fingers but there are some major inconsistencies here. Reports indicate that Police say Sheets was not cooperative at this time and even failed a polygraph test when asked about her involvement. What is up with the lax punishment here? According to her records, she has only ever been sentenced 3 times despite all the 11 charges brought against her between April 2006 and April 2014. Please reach out to me if you have any theories or useful info. I am trying to get the DA to take a renewed interesting this case seeing as Kayla never received justice.
