I see some pics from drone footage taken by the SF PI of the area where those roads diverge. But I'm not sure I can post that link here.

The campground roads all have this distinctive thick brush up to the edges, whereas the "beaches" are bare and sloped.
That's why I was asking if anyone had photos of the water levels the day she went missing. As it looks now, it would have been immediately obvious the change in topography (admittedly while possibly intoxicated and only with headlights showing the difference)

But if that water level was actually much closer to the brush than it is now, there might actually have been very little warning at all that the terrain had changed.

And yes one hopes they would add obvious signage or even gates that people need to get out of their car to open to prevent this from occurring again.

I noticed the hesitation in answering how many bodies were in the vehicle too. Perhaps they're unsure if someone else was diving and got out?
I noticed that as well along with a group of people which I’m assuming at a quick glance we’re her “friends” who walked out right after that was mentioned.

The live feed I watched on KCRA only showed the LE officers and not anyone else. What source did you watch the press conference on?

Does anyone have an image of what the water looked like at the point where they retrieved her car the day she went missing?

We had big rain around that time. AWP is noting that the water was higher when LE searched than it was yesterday.

I'm wondering if the big dirt "beaches" we can see on the images now were under water two weeks ago. If so, there might be much less distinction between the heavy brush dirt road she was traveling. It could make it easier to understand why she was confused.

I wonder if she realized she had turned the wrong way, drove on the beach to turn around and somehow got disoriented and headed into the water. It looks like the beach juts out into the water, it makes me wonder if she saw a small inlet and thought she could drive across it.

I think a member who lives in Prosser Estates was out there a day or two after Kiely went missing and posted pics on Thread 1 or 2.
How many feet do you estimate the waterline would have had to recede? There may be tables for spillway releases.
The maps are showing the Sr send off was inside Prosser family campgrounds? Not out in the Ranch campground that had been identified as Sanctuary area?

And could still be that the nature of the famous last call was different than what we have been led to believe, IMO.
Not sure what you are saying?

Sadly, I was right. She was found in close proximity to the last phone ping

The vast majority of police depts don't have dive teams and sonar equipment. That has never been a big part of law enforcement. Even some Game and Fish depts don't have sonar equipment. Now, the FBI does have all that and most law enforcement agencies depend on them. Lack of sonar isn't a sign of underfunding but just that sonar work isn't something they do often enough to be experts. If you watch Adventures With Purpose you'll see that sonar takes a lot of time to become expert since cars can resemble boulders. I am very impressed with AWP. <modsnip - off topic> MOO
I think you're misinterpreting my post. I was responding to a poster saying that local and state LEs were severely underfunded, saying IMO this one isn't. No more, no less.

Where was that video?

On News3/KCRA linked below (approx 15:22 video mark), this question of whether or not there was more than one body inside the recovered vehicle came right after the question if there were signs the victim tried to escape [from the sinking vehicle] where the officer closed his eyes for a moment before responding 'no, there was not more than one body.' IMO, no evidence of anything more than perhaps an exasperated party by the nature of the questions here! Definitely no evidence of a group exit??

The dent on her door and the broken mirror could have also been the result of damage earlier in the night.

Kiely may have clipped a tree, or anything really, leaving the party or at some other point prior to entering the water.

Or someone at the party could have backed into her parked car?

Also, low headlights in fog are best. But SS hasn’t said it was a gnarly fog when she left.

No, the AWP video clearly says if your car goes in the water, roll down the windows as soon as you can and get out.
Yes, @Gigi3. I have also considered that KR may have forgotten to put her headlights on fully (maybe only parking lights since people leaving the party may have only used parking lights to avoid blinding people with headlights)? And what if she was distracted somehow by making a phone call or texting as she left the party... then looked up when it was too late.

I have also wondered if she tried the old method of getting out of a sinking car - opening all the windows. That used to be the way to do it - widely educated to the public in the past. But AWP made it clear in their video - that is WRONG!

I could not see the public in the PC link I watched so I'm not sure if Kiely's family were there, but what a terrible question to ask if they were. "Were there signs that she tried to escape the vehicle?" when her parents could be right there, and even if they weren't present they would surely be watching.
I know we all want to know that this was a terrible accident and that Kiely didn't suffer for long, and hopefully not at all, but some things are just plain unnecessary. IMO

Sadly I think the only reason they have not positively/officially identified her is only due to decomposition and how a body is sadly changed after being in water for 2 weeks, not that they have any doubt it is her. I assume procedure will mean in a situation like this they have to do tests (dental / dna) before officially announcing it is her, the family may have been even advised they should not try to identify her by sight as it might be too distressing:(
I disagree. Authorities already announced the autopsy will take place on Tuesday [when the ME/Coroner will do their job including positively identifying the body recovered from the vehicle]. MOO

My understanding was that this press conference was only open to members of the media, though I don't suppose they would have told her family that they were not welcome. I doubt any of KIely's "friends" were there though, as someone suggested, although the feed I watched never showed anyone other than the speakers. JMO
