GUILTY CA - Killer targeting the homeless (3 dead, 2 hurt), San Diego, July 2016 *Arrest*

The attacker is lighting homeless men on fire resulting in at least one death (though it looks like he also attacked one by beating, perhaps as a "warm up" to full murder). A person of interest has been captured on several surveillance cameras. Lets hope he is identified today.

The suspect also apparently made little effort to conceal himself during some of the attacks. As result, there might be more witnesses coming forward.

I am afraid that he might have skipped town already. He may have jumped on a bus and fled to Phoenix or downtown LA...

Homeless people are easy targets for all sorts of criminals. This one is a serial killer who doesn't have to bother with planning or stalking.

  • #66
I highly doubt this is the first time he has done something violent like this. I wonder if there are any similar crimes against homeless in other cities. He may be a transient, roving SK.

I live in san jose, its even more expensive here than san diego. my sister is a dentist in san diego and she tells me she cant afford to live here. (she could but it would be your average house and she worked her azz off in college, dental school, and now owning her own practice so she wants better than average) our homeless population is through the roof. im honestly one paycheck away from homelessness myself. our city has tons of money and really cares nothing for the homeless, in fact they sold a low income apt building to a developer and 600 residents are being evicted to make way for some luxury building. they appealed to the city council and lost 7-3. no cares. it is rough out here. this is why ppl leave CA, and thus drive up costs everywhere else and make others hate us. I love CA but the cost of living is disgusting.

I'm sure this homeless killer has been feasting on the righteousness of those who want to do away with the homeless as though they aren't even human. We're a tourist city and lots of money is spent on being the finest city, but it's sad if that means our hearts have grown cold to people desperate to survive.

The city spent over $57,000 to put those rocks in under the underpass, and it got a lot of attention as showing the city in need of leadership with a heart. Just saying.

how chilling for that poor store clerk, selling the tools of murder to this degenerate.

I really feel there is a climate of hate this election year. what with all these officer involved shootings of minority men and now this.....

An interview with the clerk from the store here:
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...spect-Fire-Supplies-Speaks-Out-385505941.html

"Elliot told NBC 7, the man in the surveillance video bought a gas can, one gallon of fuel, a lighter and gum.
“He was kind of nervous and a fast talker so I made a joke with him. Kind of like, 'you talk too fast' but he was kind of looking at me funny,” Elliott said.

they do it for companionship.

I've sometimes wondered why take on the responsibility of a dog when you're homeless, but now see it from another angle. I hope this killer, while trying to set another human on fire, meets up with a big fiercely protective dog that rips killer's nose and big ears off.

I think he might be a "drifter" himelf. like a survivalist travelling around with evil in mind.

any other spates of homeless attacks? I know philly and Rochester ny area had some ppl burned, but I think they were at the same time.. possibly done in conjunction?

I agree. I think he if was a local, some one would have recognized him. He had to be walking around the encampments long enough to choose his victims. I really hope someone is taking fliers and pictures all through the areas off the grid, because they are not going to see it on tv or the internet. Someone needs to find some witnesses and warn these poor potential victims. They are like sitting ducks right now.

he looks like paul McCartney here

Locals have been urged to get these pics out to the public. I figure even if this suspect is not from the area, if the pic gets out maybe someone living states away might recognize him (or her).

The nose is what I think is called a ski-jump nose. Also it looks like a mark on the nose.
Could have bought that hat and the whole outfit at a thrift store. I wonder where this person was staying if they're from out of town -- a hostel, motel, out amongst the homeless? Described as talking fast and nervous, but not nervous enough to not set a man on fire.
The whole city is in an uproar. We have to catch this monster.

Imho It could be confrontation over drugs from within the homeless community.

yea, my sister lives in mission hills and my mom lives in hillcrest.

Thanks for the map, used to live in San Diego. Mission Bay, Old Town, Hillcrest are better descriptions for me than Midway, East Village, etc...

I really don't see that... I think its possible the perp and the victims may have used drugs, but I don't think its connected by drugs.

Yeah, I feel badly for the store clerk.

So I am thinking a bit more about how he is dressed.

If cvaldez1975 and the first released reports are correct and this man is closer to 40 I'll throw out some things that struck me.

These are just some general impressions (which are likely to be clouded by my own cultural/social experiences)

1. The chain- not that it matters (since it's not going to help identify him) but I'm wondering if the chain is a multi tool accessory, like for a leatherman. I used to have a short chain for mine so I wouldn't misplace it and didn't want it attached directly to my belt loops. Something like this swiss army knife chain: http://www.adorama.com/vi33552.html?gclid=CIKIyoT44c0CFcokhgodsFIFMw

2. He could have purchased his clothes at a salvation army or similar, but my guess is he still considered what he was wearing carefully. Sort of a uniform rather than a disguise iykwim. His look reminds me a lot of how the late 80s/90s hardcore straight edge kids dressed. Part of that culture often included a transient lifestyle of traveling from show to show and crashing at different "punk houses" (kind of like a punk equivalent of a commune or group house-often these were shared industrial lofts where the shows themselves were held).

This is all a long shot based on a blurry video, but if he's ever travelled in any scene/punk/hardcore circles maybe someone from that seen will remember him.

3. The cap and possible bandana were two things that flag that subculture for me (although I guess it's possible that's not a bandana but the towel used in the crime? ugh.)
Here's a cartoon that turned up when I searched for straight edge hardcore fashion (not exactly what I am thinking of but close enough for an example) : http://www.dobi.nu/yourscenesucks/

I saw his clothing as utilitarian. it would protect him from flames or counter attack. but the hat caught my eye too, if it flags that subculture you may be onto something.

Another stabbing last night of a homeless man, but physical description of perp is different and vehicle was involved:

Man stabbed twice near Encanto Recreation Center

By David Hernandez | 12:28 a.m. July 7, 2016

...

The driver of a pickup truck got out near the staircase on Broadway near 65th Street, walked up to the victim and stabbed him about 7:30 p.m., police said. The injured man was taken to a hospital.

The assailant got back into the gray Toyota pickup and drove away. He was described as 5 feet and 7 inches tall, bald, with a heavy build and wearing black clothes.

Another report of the same incident:

Oh, you are right! Utilitarian is exactly the description I was trying to come up with and failing.

Since the SxE / hardcore fashion of the late 90s was worker utilitarian (Dickies, wallet chains, clothes you could travel in, hats, etc.) that might be why it was the first thing that sprang to mind.

So, probably not a worthwhile profiling on my part.
