Think it might be Anthony Alexander Padgett

Wow I'm glad he's been caught! I guess someone must have recognized him.

The homeless must be so relieved now.

I think you're right about it being the pack's waist strap. You fasten it for stability when the pack is heavy.

Climbers use a harness like you describe for safety with their ropes and stuff, but it wouldn't be part of the backpack. It's also not something they usually wear around after they're done climbing.

Yes you're probably right carbuff. A waist strap sounds right.

Not a whole lot more here in this link

"Nisleit said a tip led investigators to Padgett, who lives in Chula Vista in the San Diego area. He gave no further details on the man.

Police declined to speculate on a motive. All four victims suffered significant trauma to the upper torso, though police refused to elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

Police say the last three victims were attacked while sleeping alone."

This is so evil. The poor homeless just sleeping and this monster stabs and sets them on fire. I hope he gets death penalty. Not sure if CA has it even. The worst of the worst type of criminal. Its bad enough to kill someone in a fit of rage for some reason but to kill innocent victims in this way and use fire is the worst of the worst and this is what death penalty was for.

Has to be, Padgett posted a "certificate of discharge" from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation that was dated 07/09/2015. He obviously has a history, I wonder if there are other victims.

Holy crap. Is this the same guy? The age checks out. http://www.thestarnews.com/printable/homeless-man-gets-four-years-for-lighting-friend-on-fire/

(Star-News is the Chula Vista paper.)

IT'S HIM! I passed that by thinking it wouldn't be the same guy. He was doing this kind of horrible in 2010!

One of my children owns a house in Chula Vista. Shocking to find out he's from there.

I can't believe how bland his personality seems on fb.

Excellent work done by SDPD and the whole community of San Diego.

Why'd he only serve a short sentence for setting his friend on fire the first time?

Chula Vista is along the trolley route, would have been easy pie to travel to the murder scenes. *sigh*
