15 min into “your own backyard” so far so good. Great voice, empathetic and interviews parents. Let’s shake the tree and see what comes down.
A great voice makes a big difference. It’s not a podcast, but, I really like the voice of the narrator of Disappeared on ID....

Crazy , he’d be out by now probably. Maybe for the rest of the public it’s good because he had to behave. I live in Stockton and like everyone else. I really just want her family to get some answers.

Do we actually know he "behaved"? Maybe this killing was one of several...

I know forensics can do amazing things these days but wow, I can’t really imagine what “item” they may find useful at this point after all of these years.

There would be no clothing, no electronics that I can think of, and he has physically moved residence so there is no way she was actually ever in that house.

So interesting....

It would be great to get this solved. MOO everytime someone gets away with murder it chips away at everyone's safety.

Praying for a breakthrough and closure for this family!! I found this picture to be my favorite. It’s like he is modeling the police tape. https://imgur.com/a/aLjPrCD

Paul Flores seems to be the likely suspect. I'm about to start Episode 4 of the podcast and two things stand out that give me pause, though.
1. Houses look down into the Flores yard. I don't know when those homes were built, though...don't know if they were there in '96. If they were there, it would be a huge risk to bury a body in the spot where it's suspected Kristin is buried.
2. If K is buried under the two layers of concrete, why in the world would PF tell the sheriffs questioning him that he had to go home right then to help his dad with the concrete?
I find it very puzzling.

The podcast said Kristin was 6'1". I haven't seen that information in print. Does anyone have a link to confirm this?

It's been reported in various news stories. When I was younger, I was about 1/4" shorter than her, so I've always remembered that her height was nearly the same as mine.

How tall is Paul Flores? Has that ever been mentioned?

Edit: I just googled to see if I could find his height, and the first thing that comes up is Kristin's Wikipedia page that also says 6' 1".

The home directly behind SF's home was built in 1979. A lot of the homes in downtown Arroyo Grande have been renovated and updated throughout the years though. People add extra levels, decks, etc. So, who knows what those homes looked like in 1996. Some homes on that block have even been renovated for commercial use (like yoga studios).

Mackenzie Leuck was burned and buried in a shallow grave in a Utah backyard overnight. Not one neighbor came forward until after this info was made public. A few neighbors complained of a horrible smell, but after the fact. None of the neighbors could see into this backyard, but there was digging and burning at night... Which didn't seem to alarm anyone.

Keep in mind, KS went missing on a holiday weekend too. Neighbors may have been out of town and this area has always had a lot of rentals. A lot of homes in this area are second homes or vacation homes for people, so it wouldn't be uncommon if a few neighboring homes were unoccupied that weekend.

They could have also told neighbors that they'd be doing some concrete work and building planter boxes, and neighbors wouldn't think twice if they saw or heard them working in the backyard with concrete.

IMO of course.

Thanks for doing the research I should have done.

All strong points to ponder.

"They could have also told neighbors that they'd be doing some concrete work and building planter boxes, and neighbors wouldn't think twice if they saw or heard them working in the backyard with concrete."
Very true, and a body could have been brought to the dug up area at night.

Jumping in this thread. I saw it trending and that made my heart happy. I currently live in the area and the podcast really did create a new stir around here. I’ve had discussions with multiple people who have listened to the podcast.

Here’s to hoping it brings answers. I can’t imagine what 140 items were taken. Orcutt podcaster Chris Lambert hopes to bring Kristin Smart home - KEYT | KCOY

Fingers crossed we're a little closer to getting justice for Kristin :).

Does anyone know if they dug up any concrete when they served the search warrants?

I hope they got tons of objects coated in DNA. I wondered at first how they arrived at 140 items too. Then I was cleaning out my vehicle..... lordy, lordy, 6 shopping bags, a cart, beach chair, folding beach table, tissues, gloves, coins, four $1 bills, a zippered CD holder, wet wipes, etc. And I didn't even look under the seats.

If the podcast is to be believed, then apparently not really. They didn’t do those tests at the dads property, but they did some stuff in the mothers yard. It seems that all the places that were highly suspicious were left undisturbed.

I'm listening to the podcast Your Own Backyard now. They are really well done!

Roxy? Laying on the neighbor's lawn? She must have been wasted out of her mind that night. Overall she seems like a good kid though.

Sure sounds like PF did something.
