Now this is a peculiar listing.
He was found by hikers in a hilly area near the 'Singing Springs Cafe'. A quick google only shows Singing Springs Foods, which is in PA, or Singing Springs Ranch in Oregon. I assume that place isn't still around after so many years.
Although he was found in a dry creek bed, his face was still recognisable when he was found. No PMI is given however.
He was 5'8 and 114 pounds, he had brown shoulder-length hair, a full beard/moustache and brown eyes.
No clothing or personal effects are listed.

There's a place named Singing Springs not far from La Cañada.
Singing Springs · California 93550

"ANGELS FOREST HIGHWAY (SR 2 WESTBOUND) Shortly out of Palmdale, on the I14, you will be in the manic flow of LA traffic but look for the exit to highway 2 “Angels Forest Highway” and you will be immediately transported to tranquility and spectacular scenery. Highway 2 wanders through horse ranches then plunges into the deep gorges and tropical flora of the San Gabriels. Stop for a break at the “Singing Springs cafe” and ask the proprietor to break out his banjo for a tune. Highway 2 is a two lane blacktop with light traffic which suddenly presents you with a spectacular view and 5000’ descent into the LA megalopolis. You enter the suburbs of la Canada and Flintridge and shortly thereafter highway 2 turns into the Glendale freeway which will whisk you downtown in 8 lanes of traffic."

For a bit of context, the link to the Mojave Desert/LA Detour page was last updated in 2009.

Wow, so technically he was found by a highway? Then I guess he could have been a hitchhiker and/or from anywhere. Does he have any rule-outs? Is there anything about him in the news archives, I had a look but I couldn't find much.

Found close to the Angels Forest Highway, yes. Not sure how close though. There's a place called Hidden Springs Cafe, southwest of Singing Springs. Maybe ourJD was found somewhere between the two locations?

I couldn't find anything about him on newspapers.com, but I'll keep looking.

There are no rule-outs.

Crazy how many of these have zero rule-outs. Thank you so much for your help, I wish there was at least a sketch or a morgue photo on the page since he had a recognisable face.
I don't think this ever made the news by the looks of it, or NamUs entered the date wrong? What a shame.
