CA CA - Lauralyn Palmer, 71, missing while walking her dog, Shasta County, 20 Apr 2018

I drove through Fall River Mills yesterday and when I pulled over in front of the library to use their wifi to check my email, a car parked at the library had a bumper sticker with Lauralyn's picture on it -- was happy to see that keeping her search alive!
Thanks for sharing that! Such a sad mystery this one is :( Bump up for Lyn!

My Mom had those made. Also, there are some banners around town too she had done. They look much like the bumper sticker. That was probably my mom's car lol. They do still think about Lyn there. Nothing like that has ever happened in that town, it troubles many people to this day still.

I'm glad she's remembered in her town. I had hoped someone would have come across her by now :( How is her husband doing? My best to your mom and family. Prayers up!

Thanks for the wishes. There are some people who still look for her. Maybe one day we will get some answers. My uncle is, understandably, not the same anymore. He has good days and bad from what I hear. I am sure it is hard for him. My mom keeps in touch with him.

Keep us in the loop if you hear, or find out, anything, Hanyuu. Your aunt's case is one of those that haunts me.

I second this. I think of Lauralyn often, hoping one day that she is found and that her family gets answers. I wish we could help more on here, but unfortunately, there isn't much for us to do but hope and pray that a break comes for her family. This is excruciating and absolute torture for her loved ones.

After working her normal volunteer shift at a local thrift store on April 20, 2018, 71-year-old Lyn Palmer returned to her home in Fall River Mills, California. Waiting for her was her husband of 20 years, Bob Palmer, and Bob’s daughter’s dog, a Blue Heeler named Lucy, who they were taking care of for a few days. Lyn told her husband she was going to take Lucy on her typical 15-minute walk, leaving her phone, wallet, and purse on the kitchen counter. But she never returned. Four days later, Lucy returned to the house unharmed. Family and authorities have searched tirelessly for Lyn, but nothing of significance has been found and police say there are no signs of foul play. The Secret Witness program of Shasta County, in collaboration with Lyn’s family, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Lyn’s whereabouts.

This probably is way off, but is there any chance that someone had Lauralyn and the dog for four days, then dropped the dog off in the neighborhood somewhere? How can you explain a dog coming back after four days, when their walk is only 15 minutes long?

I can't remember, but did any neighbors see Lauralyn and the dog that day?

I believe it is entirely possible that someone could have had her and the dog. It seems like everything comes back to the dog. We have all played out various scenarios over the past year of what could have happened that day. I don't believe any neighbors saw her that day. I do believe I remember hearing that some children may have seen "an elderly woman with a dog" but it was never confirmed it was her or not. And I can't remember the location of said children in relation to where she could have been walking that day. I know that Lucy (the dog) is supposedly not very good with strangers, so I am not sure how easy she would have been to control had she been with people she did not know. I appreciate that Dateline has kept her story.

To me, it’s not outrageous that a dog would take four days to get back to the house, dogs are known to wander far (unlike most cats who hesitate to tread on unknown territory when scared or lost) and since they were taking care of daughters dog, the pup might not have been extremely familiar with the territory. Jmo on this detail

That is true, too. Honestly I wish we could communicate with animals as she is the only one who knows what happened that day.

I just wanted to bump this thread.

Cattle dogs are tough, hardy, working dogs... it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the dog wandered home days later seemingly in good health and “normal.” They are really sturdy dogs.

Does anyone know of cadaver dog handlers/organizations that might be willing to search? I can’t help but think she couldn’t have gotten all that far... a good cadaver dog might be able to bring closure.

I know my mom had looked into getting cadaver dogs and had forwarded that information to my cousins. I am not sure what they ever did with it, the never responded. They were probably overwhelmed. Thank you for the bump, by the way. I never bother doing it because I have no new information to share with everyone here.

I am assuming the woods behind the house have been thoroughly searched multiple times? I am so sorry Lyn has been gone this long. This must be so hard for your family. Thinking of you.

Yes they have. My Uncle has gone out many times looking for her, as well as other friends in the community. Thank you for your kind thoughts. It is a little easier for me to deal with since I do not live in the town where she disappeared, as long as I don't think about it too much I am ok. It is much harder for my mom and my other aunt and my uncle, who have to live there.

Thank you @Hanyuu for keeping us updated here. My heart goes out to you, your Mom and all other family members. I'm hoping one day you can all have answers.

It is I who should be thanking all of you. It means a lot that complete strangers think of her and of my family. And I know my mom appreciates it as I keep her updated with the responses people give. And I do promise that if I get any news I will tell all of you too. It sort of seems like we are at a standstill now and I sort of feel like maybe her sons and husband have just sort of accepted this and are trying to get on with their lives. I am not sure if they expected the police to do more? No one gives you a rule book for when someone disappears. You don't know what to expect from the police or the detective(s), like how far they will go to help you get your loved one back. And you don't know how much you need to do to supplement their investigation. I think that is where we are at right now. The relationship between myself, my mom, and my other aunt is not great with my cousins (her sons). We are not close and this did not help, so it is hard to communicate with them and to get a dialogue going on how to handle things. And they do not reach out to us, even though we have offered to be there for them to help with anything they need. I can no doubt imagine how hard this must be for them.
