Sometimes LE likes to watch the funeral and see who comes so maybe that is the next part of their investigation. Maybe they have like a person in mind and want to watch them at the funeral.
Hi PIM, Welcome to this thread, haven't seen you on this one much so you are probably not up to speed on some of the specifics. Here's the nutshell of events regarding teh photo thing
Regarding the family, they released some limited photos of Leila when this first happened and then were a bit upset that MSM had somehow gotten hold of many many more photos of Leila and they were being plastered all over the national news. This upset the family, who were literally still absorbing this loss and what has happened.
Unfortunately I suspect they have also been reading the topix and comments beneath articles which are saying, well, you can imagine, negative things about the family or implying things about Leila's murder.
I know in lots of cases we post pics of the victim onthread, but in THIS case, out of respect for the family we are trying to avoid posting any so we can be certain we are not posting unauthorized ones.
NO WAY you could know that if you didn't catch that part of the thread when it came up.
The grass surrounding the home where the murder occurred was trimmed over the past few days, and Hewitt said that was to “help the humans” look for clues. A special dog team is being flown in from Washington, D.C., to help in the investigation. The K9s are trained to detect the smallest droplets of blood, Kuntz said.
“I feel if there’s still blood in the house, it’s microscopic and the dogs will pick it up,” he said.
Why the house and entire road are still blocked off from the public was a point of contention at the conference. One reporter said it has been nine days since the child’s murder and it seems like a long time to still be processing the scene.
“We’re talking about the murder of an 8-year-old girl,” Hewitt shot back. “We have to be thorough.”
“We’re making progress each day,” Kuntz said Sunday of the investigation, adding the ongoing effort is “purposeful and focused.”
“A few things are getting close,” he continued, though he declined to elaborate.

The ponds are only about four feet deep, but water conditions are less than ideal.

Hi tlcya. :seeya: You're correct; I'm a latecomer to this thread and missed all that about MSM getting all those photos of Leila.I've been buried in the Boston Marathon thread and decided to come up for air...so to speak. (Not sure if this thread is necessarily less depressing.)
My picture posted wasn't of the victim--it was one of 40 taken of the family and mourners by record.net (news) at the public candlelight memorial service. I thought they were very respectfully done, and beautiful, in a sad way. But, I'm happy to leave it off here in the chance they might not like to see it in here (if they did).
Thanks for giving me the scoop!
I don't see why you couldn't post a picture from the candlelight vigil. It was open to the public and to the media. There were 1000 people there, and any gathering of that size is going to have media taking pictures and videos. It would be different if we were talking about pictures from the private service.
I agree PIM, I think WS, Tricia and SoSueMe are just exercising caution and trying to respect the family's wishes to the utmost especially in light of all the minor siblings. We are keeping their names and images off the thread. Probably the wisest course.
The post removed contained pictures of minor children. It's a steadfast rule on Websleuths, we do not post pictures of minors unless they are missing or victims of a crime.
Thanks!
Just post a link to the the slideshow like we've always done. :seeya:

Investigators focused on a wooded area west of the home where Fowler was stabbed to death.
ETA - Maybe the dogs are on to something???
It's also been reported they've "focused" on the ponds...not sure how much I'd read into that yet.
I hear you, just posting what I find (new), this was dated today at 5:23 pm.Take it with a grain-of-salt alwaysI am wondering if the dogs maybe a factor though to this area?

This appears to not be a nice guy. If I understand, he is held in Calaveras County Jail.
"Jason Tony Bays, Placerville, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, assault by means of force, threats to commit a crime resulting in death or great bodily injury and penetration by means of force or fear. He is held at the Calaveras County Jail in lieu of $1 million."
Why so euphimistic with the reporting? Keywords maybe? I often avoid keywords. Craigslist. Picked her up in Chico on 04/29. She escapes in Glencoe, about 20 mi from Rancho Calaveras. Ranged to Chico - approx 200m. That puts Davis in range.
I don't get it. An attempted infant kidnap in Placerville and connections are immediately made. But in the case, nothing thus far. Am I missing something?
