Daily Press Briefings Suspended


(Valley Springs, CA) The daily press briefings concerning the Leila Fowler homicide investigation will be temporarily suspended until significant new information is able to be released. The Sheriff’s Office will provide information through its website and Nixle on any future briefings.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office continues to make daily progress in its investigation, getting closer to bringing closure to this incident for the Fowler family.

Huh?! What happened to their 'Major Announcement'? It sounded like they were on the brink of something big on Monday evening. Now silence? Bizarre. This case is mind boggling. The community must be so frustrated! Thinking there is a child murderer on the loose? I wouldn't be able to sleep well.

I think the 'major announcement' was a fabrication or exaggeration by the media. I didn't hear LE say anything about a 'major announcement' in the last press conference. That press conference seemed to be what the subsequent news reports were (very loosely) based on.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Department says it's getting some good information back on evidence recovered in the murder investigation of 8-year-old Leila Fowler nine days ago and they expect a major annoyncement soon.

so frustrated with the press on this case. I think LE is doing their thing and can't fault their efforts. I just wish the press would behave more responsibly. I know. I know, never gonna happen. But sheesh.

I don't know how this case will end up but it really touches the heartstrings, not only because of it being such a innocent child but because this part of California is so beautiful and peaceful that it's a shame something like this should happen there, ironic almost. I followed the "Yosemite Murders" quite closely when they happened and it turned out there was a madman among us, someone who targeted the innocent and vulnerable. It was a very strange case, the perp wasn't connected to the women at all, expect that they crossed paths in Yosemite NP and they trusted the wrong person. It was not far from where this happened and just the thought of such violence in such a place is daunting.

I am not sure what to think anymore as to how this case will end up. I would like to think it's not some random lunatic but after Chelsea King, Amber DuBois, the Yosemite murders, nothing will surprise me.

RIP little girl. I hope you know how many people you have hugging you at this time.

It drives me crazy. ABC 7 is the same - and the one and only - news station that said a few days ago that LE is focusing in on the family.

It's ridiculous. What has happened to ethical, reliable news reporting?

I don't know. I just saw a video on KCRA, where they said she was stabbed 21 times! They have been sooo tight lipped about her injuries and the evidence, I seriously doubt that's reliable information. It seems like the media is just saying whatever they hear, with little fact checking.

A neighbor spoke on camera and said that he lives right across the street, and was in his front yard when the murder happened, and no one came out that door. He has a dog, and every time someone walks down that street, he starts barking. When this happened, silence.

I completely agree with you on the lack of fact checking from MSM.. thats the single reason I joined this forum.. after seeing some of the reports with wrong info.

Did the brother say the intruder went out a door? Which door? Or did he go out a window? I don't remember it being said how the intruder exited the home.

Summary: Arrest on May 02 of Placerville man on highway 26, Glencoe, 20 mi East of Valley Springs, Calaveras County. Arrest on May 06 of Placerville woman in the Calaveras DAs office. Both listed as having the same Placerville (El Dorado County) address. Both Level F (felony) kidnapping. A satellite image of their Placerville address indicates a secluded location.

I have not been able to find background information on the female arrested in the DA's office. Seems odd to me that someone would graduate from clean straight to felony kidnapping. And have a male accomplice facing the same charges plus assault and forceable penetration under fear/threat. Possibly there is an alias for the female.

On early reports I think one of the other neighbors mentioned that she had a dog and the man on the other side had a dog and that neither one barked.

I read one source early on that said 17 times, but that was the only article that said other than "multiple."
